I think the Ibox Track turns it into a steel coaster, but with Topper Track, it would remain a wood coaster.

I personally think mean streak should get the Rocky mountain redo. That ride is so painful in any seat except the very front row. when I ride it, we always get the front seat because the rest of the train is too painful. I haven't been in the middle or back seats in about 5 years. Six flags great America just got Goliath, and it looks amazing.
I don't see them going to RMC right now honestly due to the recent accident, think how much CF cares about safety and reliability atm. Plus go back, Adams post regarding all of the Mean Streak ideas is very well put, and totally understandable.

Kevin, I think you have the wrong idea about what I said about comparing Mean Streak and the NTG. A lot of people on this site have said they would like to see the NTG Treatment on Mean Streak. The original Texas Giant seems to be very similar to Mean Streak considering its layout, elements, and the fact that Mean Streak was inspired by NTG and designed by the same man as NTG. Had I been able to ride NTG, maybe I would have really loved it and as a result of that, I would want to have Mean Streak replaced by a NTG treatment. In a sense I would be comparing Mean Streak with "New Mean Streak," if that were to happen.
OK, yes...I did have the wrong idea about what you meant.
Yea, TG and MS are like siblings, and I see what you are getting at now.
The issue with simply putting topper track on Mean Streak is that it would still have the same, uninspired layout, which frankly, well...it's boring. Maybe in its day it was interesting, especially with the high-banked turn after the first drop, but compared to today's wooden/hybrid layouts, Mean Streak's layout is about as dull as they come. I would bet that within the next decade one of two things will be done; 1) simply removed for something new, or 2) overhauled much like NTG.
My money, though, would be on option one. There's little nostalgia surrounding Mean Streak, which would be the main reason to "re-boot" it. In fact, there is likely much more disdain and dislike towards the ride more than anything, at least amongst enthusiasts and first-time-and-never-again riders.
Blue Streak is a landmark. Magnum is a piece of history. Mean Streak is forgettable.

Of the three parties involved, RMC seems to have the least to do with what happened.
Gerstlauer designed the trains and restraints, and SF drove some of the design choices, presumably. RMC simply installed new track.
The only way I could see the accident preventing an RMC makeover on MS would be if Gerstlauer trains are the only RMC-compatible trains out there. I honestly don't know if that's the case.

Oh I understand, however most people think it was RMC related, and is reported as such, but again like I said CF likes to stay away from this stuff, look at the bit of B&Ms installed as of late. High reliability, safety, & capacity first.

I think you grossly overestimate the general public's understanding of who's involved in the construction of a ride. I'd bet most of them think SF designed, built, and is ultimately 100% responsible for the accident. As enthusiasts, we know that the reality is far different, and the responsibility is more nuanced than that.
What CF has installed as of late has less to do with reliability, safety, and capacity (after all, when have they not cared about safety?), and more to do with parks that were obviously lacking in certain ride categories. That, combined with their soured relationship with Intamin, is why we're seeing a few B&M's installed.

Just wanted to add that after riding Mean Streak on Opening Day, the carpenters deserve a raise. I'm saying that in a good way because in areas where Mean Streak beat you up last year, it's so much smoother this year! Anybody else notice a smoother difference?
I ride it at least once every time I go. Last year near the beginning of the season it was tolerable. Late in the season I got off with a headache. I'm really hoping my first time this season will be a great ride. I was excited when it first opened and was there for opening year and it was a pretty smooth ride, just lacked some real excitement.
I'll be there to check it out on June 9th and/or 10th. I typically try to get it ridden first [or second depends on the condition of Maverick]. Last year's last trip I regretted it though, had a headache for about 3 or 4 hours lol.

I did not ride it this year yet, but I remember Tony (I think) Mentioned that the carpenters did a major overhaul last year. with that being said, chances are, at the beginning of the season, the ride is a lot better then by the time the end of the season comes by.
I'm going again this weekend, I will have to report back, but I am sure this will be the only time this year that I ride it, I'm happy with the Blue Streak, so much better, just the airtime alone.

Well, that is encouraging to hear. I guess if you are looking to ride Mean Streak, now is the time to do it.
Unfortunately, the trend is that it will beat itself up again in a matter of months. So, don't expect the smooth rides to last.

Noticed the improvements. The third drop (the drop that goes over the entrance)is very smooth, you can see where all the track was replaced. The ride is very rideable this year, it's about as smooth as Blue Streak is.

I hope its still that smooth when I get there early June. Looking forward to riding it before they eventually get rid of it. Though I think that every year when I ride it and it still remains.
I rode it on Opening Day. It was much smoother on the first initial turns of the ride, and dare I say it was actually pretty fun until the turn around past the lift heading back toward the MCBR.
After that, it was still the most boring back half to ride I've ever been on. The "airtime hills" were uninspiring. There were moments I thought I'd be able to get out of my seat, but alas, it simply glided over without any sort of air.
This is the main problem with Mean Streak, and after watching a video of NTG, it seems RMC seems to have solved it. Of course, that requires redoing the entire ride essentially, so I don't know if management is willing to invest that much into a 23 year old ride.
Does MS not do the on ride photo anymore? At the park the other day I noticed the photo booth was all shut as well as the camera not working. Temporary maybe?
I guess I wouldn't be surprised though seeing as I doubt many would buy an on ride photo from Mean Streak. :P
They weren't open last season. I'm pretty sure they didn't sell enough Mean Streak photos to justify keeping the photo shop open.
