Everything at Cedar Point is "doomed". Over the years, many, many rides, buildings, etc have been removed, and in coming years, many more will meet the same fate.
I think that Mean Streak will be there for as long as a) it continues to meet whatever ridership metric the park has for it and b) the park has no better use for the space.
I just rode Mean steak yesterday in the front row. It was smoother compared to previous years (which were very bad experiences). But seriously, This coaster is literally one of the biggest wooden coasters in the world. Yet it has ZERO airtime, bad forces, and is nothing but bumps. In addition, Mean streak has more breaking on its first drop than another coaster I have ridden.
This ride can't even operate under its original design. Six flags knew that Texas Giant was a complete design failure, and TG and MS have nearly identical designs and are designed by the same company (Dinn Corporation). Another large coaster by this designer, Hercules, torn down because it was too rough and was unpopular as a result.
I know people say "its a woodie and its meant to be that way" but this is just a waste of space. Could you imagine a larger NTG with inversions and wooden topper track like Goliath and Outlaw run? MS was always meant to be great but just like it's sister coasters it was poorly designed. Why keep retracking a poorly designed coaster that can't even operate as it was designed?
Wooden coasters don't have to be rough. I don't expect them to be perfectly smooth but if it's throwing you all over the place, that's just unenjoyable. The Beast @ KI is a classic woodie that's got that classic wooden roughness while still being smooth enough to enjoy.
Mean Streak... Well, it's been years. It'll be even more years until after they bring in an RMC or replace it before I ride again.
Rode Mean Streak yesterday for the first time in many years. While it was not nearly as back crunching and neck twisting as I remember, it was still way too rough for me to give it much credit. Yes, wooden coasters do not glide on the track but they still shouldn't be so bumpy I can't wait for the ride to end.
My son really wanted to ride it, his first time, so I went on it twice... back to back. I wont be doing that again anytime soon.
Mean Streak Henry was there which was cool to see him, but it got me wondering how he can ride it so much. I hope when I'm that age that I can ride the train - let alone Mean Streak a few thousand times a year!

I hope they don't get rid of mean streak anytime soon, plus they did some retracking over the off season.
They retrack every offseason. That's what needs to be done on wooden coasters. It doesn't help because the ride beats itself to death from jackhammering (due to lack of speed from the trims). It's a very poorly done ride; there is a reason Dinn Corp didn't end up building many rides.
MS is not a terrible ride physically, it certainly doesn't jerk you around too much, but there is nothing there. No positive G's, no negative G's, no laterals - its all been "braked" out of it. Its a beautiful sight to look at and its definitely rideable and a great first coaster, but its just a useless coaster in my opinion.
