Useless and such a waste to what I believe to be CP's best spot! IMO the back of an amusement park should house one of the park's top attractions... Make the guests travel the entire park, better utilizing all existing park space by spreading the crowds out! With Gatekeeper bringing the crowds to the front of the park, MF/TTD taking care of the middle, the Gemini Midway getting it's makeover, it only makes sense that CP would next be thinking of giving Maverick a side-kick! Imagine the view coming up the causeway with a new attraction in MS's place taking over the view! Just a thought... I do think a woodie is in CP's future, just not yet and not at MS's location. If CP were to do a new woodie, it would be a biggee and a substantial investment! Maybe CP is waiting to see how the new/larger woodies that have been built recently, take on the years and cost to maintain in that span before making a large investment on a woodie? The Mean Streak experience as a whole is not what CP expected from such a large investment on a wood coaster IMO.... CP is not like any other park, they have to build large/record breaking attractions every time they build to keep their reputation. They also have to build nothing but high capacity attraction no matter what, so that rules out a lot of options!
I just posted a picture of Mean Streak in the sunset to the CP Rundown page on facebook. Those of you that like Mean Streak will like seeing the sun beautifully reflecting off the wooden structure. Those of you that hate Mean Streak will love that the light gives the illusion that the wood is all hot burning embers as if your dreams have come true. Either way, feel free to enjoy. I was going to try to link it here but if I click on the post it takes me back to the album on my page instad of elarging it on their page and the setting reverts fom public back to friends only.
It is a beautiful structure, a work of art, I will give it that, but that's as far as it goes. "America's Roller Coast" needs a top ten woodie, no question about it. Many awesome wooden roller coasters being built now, Cedar Point doesn't have anything to show for it.

Paisley, I went to the CP Rundown page and didn't find your Mean Streak picture on there. Maybe there's more than 1 CP Rundown page?
I can't find it either, and I would love to see it. I have the CP Rundown calender that has a pretty good picture of Mean Streak as well. I put it as my Facebook profile picture.

Maybe it's not showing up right. It would be in the comments to the left, not the main timeline but it's possible the privacy setting from the album it was in is a problem. I'll have to pluck it out of the album and set it different.
[url][url]I'll just link it right here direct.
Cool! That is a nice picture!

Just one comment on the OP -- "Cedar Point still operates it because of the record breaking status."....
Not really.
As to everything I've been able to gather at stockholder meetings and off-the-record comments by those higher up, I do believe that a tubular track replacement is coming -- just a matter of when.
Replacement of the track itself keeping the structure or of the entire ride with something new that has a tubular track?
Yeah... Current leadership won't keep a ride around simply because of what it once was or was supposed to be. If Mean Streak is not up to their expectations in terms of cost/benefit ratio, or if they simply would prefer to better utilize the land for a new attraction, it'll be gone faster than Wildcat. And that's fast, since it was like two weeks before opening day when that was announced. :)
I'm impressed with the Rocky Mountain creations. Wonder is CP will bite the bait? After all, SF is doing it..
IMO, and it ain't matter :) corkscrew, Gemini, magnum, cedar creek mind ride, mantis, and meanstreak, all need re-tracked or reconfigured in some way or another (trains, track, restraints, layout)
It's about the quality of the experience. Not the quantity of the experiences .
The 'higher ups' are telling you off the record comments that they are planning on completely replacing the track for a ride which recently had its track completely replaced?
One of the two parties to that exchange has no idea what they are talking about, and I'd be willing to bet money on which one it is.

Actually, it's about the profitability of the experience. As long as those rides are meeting the criteria Cedar Fair has in place, they'll continue to run just as they are.

Mean Streak only has its track partially retracked each year. And Rattler had Topper Track placed on its first turnaround for the last year before it closed to be Iron Horsed.
What kind of track does Voyage and El Toro use? Also which one would be better If CP were to keep the structure the way it is now with one of those track features?
El toro was built from the ground up with laser and basically put together like a Lego set, mean streak couldn't keep the superstructure and be like toro. Not sure about voyage though
Mean Streak closed after Labor Day 2010-2011 for a complete re-tracking as well as having the trains rebuilt by PTC; this was not normal off season refurbishment.

The Voyage is conventional laminated wood track with a steel rail on top... like Mean Streak.
