housing

Are there buildings that are designated non-smoking, or are there only rooms that are non-smoking?

If there are non-smoking buildings, which ones are they?

The smoking and non smoking is by the rooms..All the various housing dorm and apt building have both available..

Are there non-smoking floors?
No....unfortunatly!

That is really too bad because not only do I have asthma but I am very sensitive to cigarette smoke. I lived in a smoking dorm in college and just b/c no one was smoking in my room didn't mean that it didn't affect me. Half way through the semester I had to move to a smoke free dorm.

Smoke drifts into the hallway and into non-smoking rooms. I can't believe that CP wouldn't have at least one non-smoking dorm or at least they could set up non-smoking floors. Most colleges are making their dorms smoke free to protect people's health. I don't know why CP would put their employees at risk.

Oh good lord, you're back again with your anti-smoking chest-beating? I thought for sure you had gotten that out of our system the last time you were here and started all that noise. Deal with it.

No offense Emma, but smoking is a right that Americans have. No, I don't like it when people smoke, but it's their right. As long as they're doing it in a reserved place, it's fine.

I dont't think she is saying that anyone who smokes is bad, but that if there was a handful of people that didn't want to live around it, that Cedar Point should have at least a floor or two there were non-smoking floors. I too agree that its an Americans right to smoke. But I wouldnt mind having a smoke free room, but if not, thats ok too:)

I'm pretty sure Gold was smoke free, probably because they were afraid that it would burn down if the girls smoked in their rooms, but I could be mistaken.

None of the dorms are smoke free..

Telling someone to "deal with it" when it is a serious affector of their health is insensitive and downright rude.

You do not have the right to pollute my airspace with your carcinogen-carrying smoke. You have the right to pollute your own, yes. But if I'm in a captive situation with you, you only maintain the rights which do not infringe on my own right to air that doesn't choke me.

To Gravity & Drew: Maybe you should re-read what I wrote b/c I did NOT ever say that smokers are bad people or that I was trying to take their "Right" to smoke away. I have freinds that are smokers and I don't think people who smoke are bad people. Maybe just the ones that are ignorant...

I have a medical condition. I get VERY sick when I inhale smoke. It is a fact that smoke drifts. All I said is that I think CP should have at least one non-smoking dorm for those employees who have asthma or are very sensitive to smoke or just plain don't want to be exposed to it. I am sorry if I have offfended any smokers here b/c that was not my intentions.

I have the right to breathe clean air and live in a place where my health is not put in danger.

With the way people come into CP.. in waves.. and the limited amount of housing.. it just wouldn't be possible I don't think..

In the 1400 building on the floor I lived on, the second, there were no-smoking signs painted on the walls. Did this just mean no smoking in the halls or no smoking in general? I don't remember how many there were, but there was at least one on the wall by my room. I always thought it ment that those dorms on that hall were non-smoking dorms.

There are ones in the halls of 1500 if I remember too.. and several of the rooms n that floor were smoking rooms so I'm assuming it just means in the hallways..

If memory serves correctly, there were ones in the hallways of Bayside at the beggining of the year also but were torn down.

Guess what. The smoke I exhale today is going to be in your air tomorrow no matter what. Not to mention exhaust from vehicles and industry. None of us live in a place where our health isn't put in danger. Welcome to America.

I pay ridiculous taxes on a pack of cigarettes, respect the areas where smoking is prohibited, but you can bet you're life I'm going to enjoy a cigarette in my own personal space. If that room happens to back up against yours, it's not my problem.

I was actually wondering the same thing because I also have asthma. I tend to have pretty bad attacks when I am exposed to smoke. I agree that there should be at least one dorm that is smoke free. I know that they could get enough non-smokers to live there considering most of the population does not smoke.

I don't see why some of you are making such a big deal out of Emma wanting to live in smoke free housing. I want it too. She never said that you can't smoke. If you are a smoker and there was a building that was smoke free, just don't live there.

Problem is this... the dorm fills up with "non-smokers" then someone like yourself or Emma comes in and there are no rooms left.

What happens then? Do you remove someone who could have possibly already been there for weeks or months to accomodate someone else?

Emma, try talking to CP Human resources, maybe they could suggest an apartment in the Sandusky area that you could live in. Yes it would be more expensive, but you need to look out for your health.
