My 1969 souvenir map shows them.I can assure you, with 100% certainty that the old Trabant ride was introduced to the park in 1966 along with the Pirate Ride and Upside Down Funhouse. I have a scan of the Sandusky Register newspaper article previewing CP's 1966 season for that year. If you want a copy, let me know. Now someone want to work on an updated CP history site with me?
CPfan1976, maybe you can help me.
I remember going to Cedar Point that year (66) with some family friends who lived in Sandusky, they had a boat at the marina. Their son and I were just out of sixth grade and we were allowed to go around the park for the day by ourselves. So, in addition to Pirate Ride, was the SanFransisco Earthquake ride new that year as well? I also seem to remember riding Zugspitze that year as well as Broadway Trip for the first time. Could they have had that many new rides that year? I believe Broadway Trip lasted only one season, Sky Slide replaced it in '67.
One memory of that trip that is not hazy was my first ride on Blue Streak. It was about 11pm, the park was about to close, and I let Craig talk me into it. I tried to act like I wasnt nervous. We lucked out and got the front seat. (gulp) We were just little guys and I will never forget how we floated out of our seats over those first low rabbit hops. I was hooked right there, and I still love that ride.
^ It's funny how the memories get jumbled together with time. You're right about the Zugspitze being new that year in 1966. However the Earthquake ride was introduced the year before (it replaced various concession owned flat rides that were there previously). The Broadway Trip from my research was only there in 1964 around the area close to where Maxair is now (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The sky Slide came in 1968 and I remember riding it alot when I was a kid, it was one of my favorites.
My friend and I had a similar experience on Blue Streak popping out of the seats, yeah I can relate to that. They must have let anyone on years ago, was there even minimum height requirements back then?? Good times...
There are already pics of the area here: https://www.cedarpoint.com/gatekeeper/galleries/construction-update-april
Let's Get Weird.
Cedar Point's twitter page just tweeted a picture of rectangular things in shrink wrap in one of the picnic pavilions. I think it's the flat screens that are going into the entrance gate. Any ideas?
Take a look.
