Looking at the webcam throughout the off season, I couldn't help but notice the lack of protection across the front gate. It looks like it is just a small fence like what they would use in a temporary queue. If somebody felt like it, they could probably easily sneak into the park at night (for now). Am I missing something or is this the case?
Thanks Adam for the link earlier. Do you know if they are still putting a roof on what used to be the triangles? Maybe not as high as they used to be, but something less tacky.
Ok guys you got me. ::slaps head:: Anyway, what I meant to ask was are they still going for the slanted roof or flat roof aproach?
Hard to tell without construction plans in front of ya. ;)
My guess is that they'll just blend it in with the surrounding roof.

There will be some kind of structure there (I forget what exactly) because I believe they said there's an air conditioning unit or something there.

Those A frames, built as part of a big renovation in 1969? 70? Somewhere around then. And they were so modern! (fiberglass!)
Back then picnics were welcome inside the park, and they were the roof structures over new, improved picnic shelters. Families and groups could claim a table, and leave their picnic baskets all day to revisit at lunch or throughout the day. Things sure are different now.
I do know in 1970, under one of those A's, the Hofbrau was introduced where beer was served in a German beer hall atmosphere, which at best was a stretch. Hannah's is there now, unless there's plans to re-do or remove it with the current remodel.
My 1969 souvenir map shows them.

Don't worry, GK will be a new target. Give it a few years and the gulls will have marks all over that coaster. That's probably why the park decided to go with white supports so it won't be as noticeable.

Believe it or not, those ugly things were put up even earlier in 1967 along with the front gates that were just torn down. I'm going to take some credit for getting these hideous things removed after emailing the park about them after opening day last year. They, along with myself, after going every year just finally recognized what an eyesore they truly were. BTW, Jason I finally confirmed one of your "mysteries" from your rollercoasterfreak site a while back. I can assure you, with 100% certainty that the old Trabant ride was introduced to the park in 1966 along with the Pirate Ride and Upside Down Funhouse. I have a scan of the Sandusky Register newspaper article previewing CP's 1966 season for that year. If you want a copy, let me know. Now someone want to work on an updated CP history site with me?
The main gates that were recently demolished looked as hideous as those A frames towards the end of the 1990s. So was Decker responsible for giving that a facelift as well to compliment the carousel house?

^^ lol I don't understand why Raptor gets all the Seagull poop
I think it's simply because of the type of coaster Raptor is. Since it's an invert, the supports go horizontally above the track to attach to the top of the track. These then create perfect seagull perches, so seagulls sit on top of the horizontal supports, and, well, do their business. Since almost every other coaster at the park has regular supports that are under the track, this is why I think Raptor is so bad. Basically, Raptor's supports are giant bird perches.
