Front Gate Destruction/Construction

Crane moved, dirt moved, cars drove around, trucks were moving stuff along. A lot of magic secret stuff happened today.

You guys are right. Since I'm at work all day, I worry at times I'm missing something that you guys might be seeing. I need a chill pill.

Shawn, it looks like construction has stalled until the Keyhole towers arrive.

I would be amazed to find out the actual weight of the towers. How long does the concrete bases need to cure in the Winter before putting the towers on? And to see the final clad on the towers will be uber cool. Also, does anyone know if the towers are to remain hollow or do they plan on filling them with sand as well to muffle the "roar" above the main entrance.

And Shawn....inhale...hold...exhale.....shhhhhhh......

See ya in May!

Sorry for the mess. Signature under construction.

Or maybe several. In prescription strength. ;)

I would imagine they will let the concrete cure at least 7 days before removing the forms. How long it has to set before the can start placing force on top of it really is dependent upon the specification they are using and the strength they are looking for out of the concrete. I would guess another week though. Typically concrete gains 80-90% of its strength in the first 14 days of curing. The fact that its winter shouldn't affect the curing time as much as you think. They will just take some extra steps such as covering the concrete (which it appears they have done) and possibly placing heaters inside the tarp.

I was surprised to see that they had not even finished fabricating the keyhole towers as of a week or so ago (when Jeff got that tour). I wouldn't be surprised if we see them work on the turn around or the helix next, because it seems like it will be a couple of weeks before they are ready to put up the keyhole tower.

I am just guessing this is all part of their schedule. I doubt they continue past the keyholes unless and unexpected happens. Maybe this is time off for the steel guys. We know they are doing plenty around the station and such.

Well whatever they do, I will not look at the webcam until Friday. I need to take everyone's suggestion and not ask questions so much and not go crazy over the webcam. Mike, I agree with you and I wish Pointbuzz had a like button. Oh well. :)

So what is the building that is being worked on that is right near the keyhole towers? What will that be?

Shawn did you just check the webcam? Trains have arrived!

I see nothing for trains... where did you see those?

No trees were harmed in the sending of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Was that a joke?

No I'm not looking at the webcam. You guys told me to calm down and I'm doing just that. I bet I know what's going on though, the seagulls are throwing a party in the parking lot. :)

Maverick00's avatar

We told you to calm down on KIC too :)

Well I did what you guys told me. I haven't asked a question in a few days. Although now that it's been since Tuesday, I do have a new question. Does anybody know how they are going to put the roof on the two towers? I don't know if any of you guys know construction or not.

Probably steel framing, constructed similar to a gas station awning. I'm just as excitied about the new entrance as the coaster itself. The creative disney-like minds at work for Cedar Fair is really starting to show.

Apologies ahead of time for blowing your minds, but did you guys know that in May, Cedar Point is actually going to let you look at this thing in person?!?!?!?

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

Maverick00's avatar

I could go look at it in person right now if I wanted to :)

Shame, I haven't used the front entrance in probably over a decade. Might have to actually try it out this year.
