Front Gate Destruction/Construction

Let;s not get all misty, I'll take any good info or pics over sentimentality

I don't care how many Cedar Point fan pages are out there. I mean, why wouldn't there be a lot? Outside of Disney, it's the world's most popular amusement park. And outside of Disney, it has the most rabid fan base. :) I just didn't understand why anyone might worry that we'd no longer have any good GateKeeper coverage. :)

All the great Cedar Point sites die off.

I mean there used to be this one... Virtual Midway. Man that was a great website. It was wonderful, had tons of information about the park and its history, what ever happened to that, I miss that site.

Then there was this other one... pointguide or something... I swear it had guide in it...

Actually, when you type PointBuzz into Google, the first website is Virtual Midway :)

Maverick00, you must be new here :)

Get off my lawn!!!!

As far as I know, Jeff bought Virtual Midway to shut it down. It's been replaced with virtualmidwaytoday.com.

You think Cedar Point is more popular than Universal?

Anyway, back on topic:

It looked like they had the East towers form completed on the webcam today at around 1pm when I checked it. The plywood "sides" for the forms have been up but the "front" and "back" were just added.

Concrete can't be far off, the ride only has a few more pieces left before it actually reaches the keyhole. For that matter, I wonder how long it'll need to set before it can be load-bearing.

So much win in this thread. :)

They probably wouldn't need to wait to long to place the track. Running a train on it is what would really have to wait. I'm no concrete expert. But, I'd guess a week.

Well it does appear track is up to the point of the keyholes for the next piece. Now the concrete towers are not at full height of where the holes would be. So are they building just the foundations maybe and there will be pre-fab pieces put on top of the concrete slabs? Then they would be able to pour concrete, attach the top pieces and move on fairly soon.

They are pouring 20' up for the entrance. The rest will be steel that is fabricated by B&M. It will be the keyhole structure and the support in "one" piece.

No trees were harmed in the sending of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

It's not necessary to quote a post directly above your own.

I was beginning to think that was how the keyholes would be built. And Jason, yes I agree about not needeing to copy posts.

Can anyone tell if the rest of the old front gate is gone yet? I wear glasses everyday, but I still find it hard to tell what is going on at the front entrance. I think they need to bring the webcam in a little more.

I think you deserve the award for being the most inquisitive person regarding Gatekeeper's progress. :)

And as far as it looks, it's completely gone.

Thanks Adam. I feel privileged :)

Looks like they changed the webcam again, giving us a real nice look at the keyholes/front gate situation. Very cool
