Facing the facts

I'm a-tellin' you guys, you are still overlooking Gibby's pretty slick sounding numbers ...

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.

Based on what Jeff Said where, these are the remaining height/speed/drop numbers that we have to work with.

Height Speed Drop

420 117 400

418 117.2 406

426 117 408

I base this on the fact that these were between Jeff's posts on page one and two, and they fall in the numbers he has given. I hope that it is one of these three.

If the break run were 55 feet up, each section of the tower would be close to 100 feet and we would all be way off!!! :)
I'm betting on the middle one...just because he is so sure of himself.

Hey Bob, I've been here since 1999, have like 3500+ posts, and have never met Jeff before. So I wouldn't base the guess on someone just because of their longevity here on the boards.

Launch: Tophat: Twistage: Brakes...

...Denial is an ugly thing.

Do you really think that the break run is only 12 feet tall?
No, but technically, the drop doesn't end until it levels out to a plain even with the ground. so the whole brake run can be counted. :)

i'm still going with 420, 400, 117 ...it just feels right

If you build it, they will come!
I agree with Miller - they not only feel right - they are similar in nature to MF - two even numbers and one odd (just kidding). The only concern I would have is the brake run and bottom of drop. I believe it should count, and the break run looks closer to the ground than 20 feet.

Therefore, I am going to go with 418 and 406.

Now that i think about it. Looking at this picture...

I understand that MF is a distance in front of #16, but i just don't see how another 110 will be accomplished. Maybe my assumption of 420 is way off. I just don't know...

How many people are in this? I'm starting to wonder if it was such a good idea, after all! That's gonna be alot of ice cream!

From what everyone is saying I wanna go with 420 120 400, but from what I see in the cams I dont see how another 100 feet is going to accomplished.
The tower doesn't have to extend another 100 feet. It is already at about 400' and the track will most likely continue above the tower as Jeff has hinted at a few times. See: Wicked Twister and Xcelerator. Both have a lot of unsupported track. The Intamin box track supports itself very well.

Who says it needs another 100 feet?

its no higher then the tower power. and thats at 300 feet. I have heard about them extending the track past the supports but can only see another 30 -50 feet doing so.
I like Gibby's numbers for two reasons

First, 426 Feet gives it a full 11 feet over S:TE

Second, IMO Cedar Point would never say 117-POINT TWO miles per hour. The point two is insignificant, they would round since nothing else is close.

So to me it is really down to Gibby and the guy who said 420 - 117 - 400. But ... here's something else to think about.....

Name - Height - Drop
Gemini 125 - 118
Maggie 205 - 194 Arrow
Millie 310 - 300

Notice millie is designed to have whole even numbers, and that the height to drop is not more than 11 feet difference......(Probably insignificant, but seemed at least partially interesting)

I'm going with Gibby's numbers as well, but that's because the 426 height was what I'd heard from someone I consider a very reliable source. It was the only stat I was given.

It sure looks taller than Power Tower as of December 7th.

My guess is

426 tall

115 mph

405 drop

Well, I think Front Seat Rider is correct with 420/400/117 (assuming Jeff does know and assuming Jeff meant that in this thread someone "got it all right"). Also to support his numbers is the coincidence (admittedly only a coincidence) that if each tower section is 16 meters tall, that means the tower is 128m or 420 feet tall. Combine this with the appearance of what seems to be the poker table at the top of the tower as we speak (meaning no freestanding tophat), and it looks like we have our stats.

Also 117 mph headed for 420 feet looks an awful lot like 82 mph headed for 205 feet (Xcelerator's stats), with about 3 1/2 mph over the top. And yes, I understand I am ignoring some unknowns like the actual launch height of each coaster, but I think we can safely factor these out.

Oh, and Coasterbob, I think you would be hearing about what once was the world's tallest coaster, the Blue Streak (no, not that one!):

http://coasterglobe.com/features/lostlegends-bluestreak/

If you count this no longer existing coaster (torn down in 1941), Gemini was never the tallest coaster in the US ever, just the tallest existing coaster.
