Facing the facts

Assuming that cedar point still like's it's name in the book of Guinness Records, and will continue the love representing top honor for bragging rights, NUMBER6TEEN will hopefully become the crazy coaster we all hope it to be.

Because the WORLD RECORD of tallest and longest drop (continuous track) roller coaster was short lived for CedarPoint (with their giga-hit coaster Millennium Force), I am basing my forthcoming opinions as a result of the park so quickly getting robbed of their bragging rights. Millennium Force opened 5/13/2000, and Steel Dragon opened 3 months later.

With this hypothesis, and the fact that NUMBER6TEEN is so top-secret, (which is the approach I would take if I had the chance) I feel our newest coaster will top the charts.

The Facts: (as reported on the roller coaster database)

Fastest coaster: 106.9 mph (Dodonpa)

Highest drop: 328' (title shared by superman and tower of terror)

Tallest: 415' (again, superman)

If CedarPoint has intentions of regaining the WORLD RECORD for drop height, fastest speed, and TALLEST coaster, i assume the following.

After observing the facts, I would estimate NUMBER6TEEN will be at the very least 420 feet tall, with a drop no shorter than 350 feet, and reaching speeds in excess of 110 mph. If CedarPoint is indeed reaching for the bragging rights yet again, I think it's safe to assume NUMBER6TEEN will be nothing short of monstrous!

(if this topic has been pre-discussed, please forgive me for i am new to the boards.)

Bragging rights = $$$$$ real important in this bizness

420??? they could paint it green and call it the chronic. lol j/k it would never happen

Unless I am mistaken, I think it has been talked about numerous times that CP can finally put to rest the Superman debate...

Your hypothesis is shared by many others, but I don't think a lot of people have put as much work into it. So, on that note, kudos to you and your thoughts. For, I am one who shares them also.

My Predictions:
112 mph
428 ft. (height)
355 ft. (drop)

Although this will be the tallest and fastest, Millie will still be my favorite at the park and Raptor at a close second. I will never stray from those... no matter what.

DELETED!

I think if it is 428 feet tall the drop will be closer to the 400 mark! The drop side of the tower isn't nearly 70 feet off of the ground (look at the web cams, the drop goes bellow the first catwalk. This means it is below 55 feet), so if you go up 428 u will fall further. The brake run side of the structure apears to be between 25 and 40 feet off of the ground not 70! Odds are we will go up 425 to 440 and be droped exactly 400 feet!

How about:

120 MPH, 420 feet HIGH, 400 foot DROP?

I agree with you, Coaster Freak. It needs to hit a nice round number for the drop. I changing 390 foot drop to 400 foot

Also, the Height and Drop CAN'T be the same given that the launch track is elevated.

Or:

115 mph, 425 feet high, 400 foot drop! I think they want to break the 400 foot mark on the drop, why come so close yet so far away! Look at MF, 310 feet tall, 300 foot drop!

The drop and the height should be the same. Look at Xcellerator
No they will not be the same! The height of the actual structure and the drop of the ride are almost never the same! Just like MF 310 foot tall structure only a 300 foot drop, Raptor, 137 foot tall structure, only a 119 foot drop! Number 16 doesn't drop all the way to the ground on the brake run side, thus the drop height will not be the same as the total height of the structure! The drop will be around 400 feet and the structure will be between 425 and 440 feet tall!
Except Jeff said, "a little shorter" based on the nominal numbers like 428', etc. that were posted earlier.

How tall the new ride will be is how tall the highest point of the track + the length of lighting rod CP decides to put up. a 10' lighting rod protects better than a 5'. :)

House of Tomorrow: Only technology makes live worth living

Alright, how 'bout this:

125 mph
425 ft. (height)
410 ft. (drop)

That sounds about right. But the numbers aren't going to be perfectly round. Millie may be 300, 310, but 93 mph? Sure, it was probably estimated to go only 90, or faster like 95, but no matter what computer programs you use, the real world always is different...

About my ealier post, I'm an idiot and wasn't thinking straight. 428, 355? Yeah, I'm not sure what I was smoking...

A little faster? Let's bet $100 on 115 mph..:)

In terms of height, let's take a wild stab and say 425 in terms of height, and a drop of 370

I'll say 122mph, 420-425 ft., and 375-390 ft. drop. Seeing the pullout in person, it's easy to see that its quite high off of the ground. Probably upwards of 30-40 feet.

Drop of 370! Your kidding, this thing is going to drop more than 400 feet. I love it how CP had the first 200 ft ride, 300 ft ride, and now 400 ft. (Full circuit that is.) CP always gets what it wants, speed and height. That park spoils us.

If you build it, they will come!
RebelBrad - Don't forget Gemini which (according to Cedar Point's 1978 brochure) opened as the "highest, steepest, fastest coaster in the nation". I only have two questions for any historians out there:

1. Was Gemini the highest in the WORLD (not just the NATION) when it opened?

2. Was Gemini the FIRST to top 100 feet?

One other thing: MAGGIE does NOT have a 200 foot drop! At least according to RCDB, it is 205 feet tall but the drop is only 194' 8".

However, I am still feeling like #16 will have a drop which exceeds 400 feet (I'm hoping anyway).
