Dragster offically 2nd Tallest

Vince982's avatar

Whenever I look at Superman the Escape it reminds me of Demon Drop, except with a launch of course. Dragster may have only beat it by 5 feet but it still beat it. Kingda Ka beat Dragster by 36 feet and 8 MPH, congratulations to them for having the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. Eventually Cedar Point will get the record back. Cedar Point has broken the record 4 times before and im sure that they will break it again. Roller coaster records are made to be broken, I'm sure that every park in the world would love to say that they have the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, but to do so they have to work for it. My question is why did they make Kingda Ka launch at 128 MPH? Why not found it off to 130 MPH? I'm not much of a physics person but I found that odd. I realize that coasters like Millennium and Magnum go at an odd number like 93 and 72 because they have a lift hill but I was just curious why they launch it at an odd number like 128.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Vince982 - CP has broken the record 4 times. Gemini, Magnum, MF, and TTD were all the tallest coaster in the world when they opened.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out Kevin.

So KK is taller.... move on. You still have the best coasters in the world.

If TTD is better according to you, then why are you guys whining about KK being taller? You have the 2nd tallest ride in the world. It's still a great ride. Just because there is a taller ride doesnt make TTD any worse. Like I said, Cedar Point still owns every other park, so be happy about that, and accept that KK is bigger.

Both TTD and KK are/will be two great coasters.

A wheel fell off hitting someone at the park after three years. The Japenese are very safety orienented and immediataly closed the ride down.

The record is broke when that put the top track on, that was over 420 feet and locked it in place it was then the tallest coaster on earth. They did the same thing with MF and SD. After MF hit 310 feet or maybe it was when it ran for the 1st time they put the top track on SD and it was name the tallest coaster on earth but SD didnt run yet. That is how I think it was done but I am not sure so if im wrong sorry.

If I remember SD was topped off only a few days after MF opened.

Vince its because that is what it takes to get over the hill and going from 0 to 128 mhp in 2 or 3 seconds is hard on the body, so they anit going to add anymore force on the body that they have to just to get to 130 mhp.

Gomez I think it was the next day, after they heard that MF had that record, so yea it was only a day or so after. *** Edited 1/17/2005 2:27:58 AM UTC by Ary***

Goodbye 2005 season!!!!

Would 2 MPH really make a difference? I'm not being a smart ass I'm really asking if it would make a differece.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

In your car, can you tell the difference between 60 and 62? Now imagine half that difference.

Vince982's avatar

That's my point... so why not 130?

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

There isn't really a difference.

That 2 mph would make the ride have to start faster true your not going to be able to feel it but the g's will still be there.

Looks like trims but not sure look for yourself.

On TTD you launch is more like 121 or 122 depending on conditions. The 128 is probably the mathematical necessity to get a train over the top, but wind and weight can make it require more power. The added G's of accelerating .5mph/s more are negligible. They are there, but your body won't be able to tell the difference.

Goodbye MrScott

I read somewhere that TTD has been launched well over 120mph at times. 130 or 132mph sometimes. I always see it at 121 to 122mph. When you're going that fast and that tall one or two mph makes a big difference. Play around with RCT and you'll notice how big of a difference one mph can make on a launch coaster.

Gomez, just remember Rollercoaster Tycoon is just a computer game, my favorite computer game, but its not really that true to life. It's just a little different that what we can do in real life.

It still works on somewhat of a basic scale. Wind, weather, or all the other factors put into real coasters aren't there but for showing that a few mph makes a big difference it works well.

I think we have the right to be pissed off. I mean they took our title of tallest and fastest by 8mph and 35 feet. They basically took the same exact design but added a little hill and shoulder harnesses. I'm sure it will be an awesome ride but come on what the hell is with the name Kinda Ka. They're making the tallest and fastest ride in the world and they can't even come up with a name that doesn't sound like its comming out of a toddlers mouth? To me the TTD will still be better because they put shoulder harnesses on theirs. That will take much of the fun away from the ride because of the following reasons: 1. there will be less freedom of movement 2. it will block some of yout vision. I'm just still caught up on the fact that they can't even come up with a new design.

So what? Why do we have the right to be pissed off if they did copy? Why not just enjoy what we have. Give it up, TTD isn't going to be a worse a ride because it's not the tallest. It will just mean shorter lines. ;)
