Dive Coaster coming to Cedar Point?

If they needed the space that Calypso currently occupies I do not see them removing it altogether unless maintenance costs are high, or some other items we wouldn't have the details on such as replacement parts availability.

You also brought up a great point that Calypso is indeed a family style ride, I know my wife, son and I have had some good times riding it. My daughter isn't quite tall enough yet but she's ready to ride it when she is. If Calypso is moved (or stays put for that matter) I would love to see it be refurbished with new lighting etc... It could once again be a great looking draw for a wide range of people in a re-designed area of the park.

I too would like to see a total refurbishment on Calypso. It wouldn't get the restoration to it original appearance, but could be spruced up with the same treatment as Monster.

If they are going to referb it, I would hope they would put the awning/umbrella toppers back on the cars. It was such a great visual effect, as well as they provided a modest amount of shade at times.

Cedar Point guest since 1974

Centurion anyone??

Am I the only one who thinks that seeing that movie once was too many times? (Anchorman, not Lebowski. The latter is a national treasure.)

Loved both movies. Anchorman 2 on the other hand...

Catching up, and boy did this thread go downhill in a hurry.

B&M makes great coasters and I would be extremely happy to see a Dive coaster in that space, or any other space at the point.

And Leviathan is good, but no way is it #1. It's not even #1 in that park. Bohemeth is.

In regards to a claim someone knows information...

I mean, yeah alot of the times (like 8-9 out of 10 times) someone's blowing smoke..

However, sometimes people do know and share information..I mean lets be honest, alot of employees and some enthusiasts knew PWX was getting removed & DA taking it's place quite a bit before the announcement...Loose lips sink ships, and word travels fast @ CP, not everyone who has access to priviledged information can be trusted.

However, again, smoke can be blown, and has been for years and years and years regarding future CP plans, etc.

I just take it all in with a grain of salt, and watch what happens all season. Then announcement time comes, and see who was right, who had good ideas, who was on the right track, etc. Then, I see the changes happen and enjoy them the following year.

No reason to get all ruffled up over someone posting a rumor or something they heard. Gossip is always going to be here, especially with how hard some people do fanboy CP and how big of coaster enthusiasts some here can be..Who cares, enjoy the developments, enjoy maybe getting information, and wait a bit and enjoy the park and the hunt for spraypaint on the ground :P

The calypso rumor sounds plausible. It sounds more credible than a classic ride being removed. If someone comes on here and says something like Blue Streak is being removed, I'm quick to call bull on something like that. But moving Calypso sounds very plausible.

Calypso has actually been moved a number of times over the decades, it is probably an easy ride to move.

On spreading information, I know that if I worked at CP in any capacity, I'd keep my mouth (and keyboard) shut i f I heard anything. Both out of respect for my employer and because they obviously plan to release information as they deam best, so I wouldn't want to put a monkey wrench in those plans.

I kept quiet here and there too...

But lol, there's also the thought..hey I was a seasonal minimum wage employee..if this info is trickling to me, chances are alot more know about it, or damn I was just lucky :P I know the latter isn't true..practically the whole park knew about DA before the announcement..Hell you could even see surveyors and stuff in the park and on the island with stakes and stuff and clearing a few small things out during the day if you rode the boats...

Maybe things have changed a bit with new leadership & stuff over the years..but surprised DA didn't really leak earlier...so much random speculation my year...

Calypso, like several of CP's flats, is a portable carnival ride and isn't hard at all to move. It may very well be CP's most traveled ride that's still currently operating. Well,...sort of.
Cedar Point's first Calypso arrived around 1965 (4?) and was up by the front gate. I think it came to the park used, maybe from the Seattle Worlds Fair, but I wouldn't swear to it. It sat toward the front gate near Sky Wheel around where Park Plaza is today. It then moved to the corner next to the french fry stand about where Raptor flies over. Then it moved by the beach at the end of the midway by the Aquarium replacing a portable go-kart ride. It's final move was when Wildcat forced it over to replace Scamper where it was re-named and re-themed to Tiki Twirl, probably to tie in to Jungle Larry's little corner there.

That was 1970 when, in what I thought was a weird move, the flashy new Calypso arrived. It's first spot was back where the original once sat, between French Fries and Silver Dollar. When Raptor was built it moved over to its current spot between Blue Streak and Turnpike replacing the Satellite Jets. Calypso and it's older sister Tiki Twirl ran simultaneously at the park for years until Matterhorn moved from it's original home by Space Spiral to replace Tiki Twirl which was then removed for good.

I'm 99.9% sure I have all that right, and the funny thing is that Cedar Point's self published history has a few of the facts wrong.

So anyway, even though the current Calypso ride may have moved only once, it's easy to see that it's quite possible to pick it up again and go. And I hope it gets moved somewhere, for nostalgia's sake if nothing else, and somehow gets a new lease on life. There are so few of those rides left now.

I think you got it 100% right. I have fond memories of Tiki Twirl also. My friend and I loved Calypso and we were very pleased to see both rides in the park. It usually made it possible to get quicker rides since we could choose the ride with the shorter line.

It's funny. Someone makes a post about a ride being located and he gets bullied about how he is making it up. How ridiculous are some of you. It sounds very plausible. It's just Calypso it can be easily moved.

I guess I am wrong when I say that the new breakers are getting a new lightning protection system using Harger grounding products.

Well, he wasn't bullied. In his post, he tried to make it sound as if he had some type of "insider" info: "Not trying to make it seem like I have factual information,,,", "I've been dying....to let you guys know...", "I heard it will be relocated...", "...that all I want to say..." and some folks took issue with how he presented his news.

Two things:

Know the room.

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

It's just how the world works. You say something constructive and if it has the slightest bit of tone to it, people start crying bully. It distracts from the real issue behind the word. To my knowledge of being on here for over 10 years, I can't recall anyone being cyber bullied (or otherwise). The issue I see is some people taking opinions and criticism a little too seriously.

So, let's just get off that whole bully idea and move on.
