Designated Smoking Areas

JuggaLotus's avatar

It depends. I go all day at work without one. Heck, I go several days without one. I'm down to pretty much smoking when I'm out at the bar. So this really isn't going to affect me a whole lot.

But there are those times that you just need one. Nicotine does have a very calming influence.

I would rather not see them remove smoking completely though for 2 reasons. 1- it is still legal. 2 - its outdoors. If there are designated areas then the non-smokers who don't want to smell smoke can avoid those areas.

Personally, I'd like to see CP do a better job of enforcing its existing smoking rules before they go on expanding them.

We're just going to have to see how people react to it. It's not like they're going to know before hand and decide not to go because of it. They'll just find it out at the park and have to deal with it.

that argument has been made several times, just not in this thread.

Yeah that's why I said here. I remember there being arguments about it somewhere else. It was just the fact that he brought it up when nobody mentioned it in the first place.

Smokers are horrible people. We thought they would stop smoking after we raised the price of cigs. no. We thought they would stop smoking when we taxed the hell out of a pack. no. We thought they would stop smoking when we banned them from doing it anywhere except their car or home. no. Not only am I all for the destruction of personal freedoms in this country, but I am all for the genocide of smokers everywhere. Remember, one whiff of second hand smoke is like smoking eight cigarettes at a time. TRUTH.

In all seriousness IOA has a similar smoking policy and it worked out ok for me. It changed the way I smoked ie its wasnt like I was really wanting a cig and had to walk my lazy butt to a smoking area, it was more like when you stumble upon a smoking area it calls for a smoke break. I'm sure most of the general smoking population wont have too much of a problem with this new policy. A lot of places have these kinds of designated smoking areas.

For a second I thought I was gonna have to rip you apart.

And don't forget, Jenny raised the cigarette tax to cover a budget hole. She also did it under the auspices of public health and getting people to quit smoking. So tell me how you're trying to get less people to buy cigarettes while closing a budget gap?

Yeah, she's a genius. And we still re-elected her.

I'm assuming "Jenny" is the governor of Michigan?

JuggaLotus's avatar

Well, governor assumes the ability to govern. But yes, she was elected to that position.

The closest I think I come to having an addiction is Diet Coke, and I'm able to go an entire day at CP without it. I know that Diet Coke isn't nearly as addictive as nicotine, but is that something smokers could do without for an entire day, or not?

My only addiction is amusement parks. I look forward to overdosing very soon!

I'm pretty much addicted to sugar free red bull. It tastes like heaven. :)

I know this has probably been said in some form or fashion already, but the smoking population at CP can be separated into two groups. Those that will follow the new rules and only smoke in the designated areas, and those who are going to smoke when and where they want. I guarantee that if there was a smoking section around every corner in the park, someone would light up where they weren't supposed to. Its the same as people who leave trash on the ground when a trash can is 20 feet away. That's just how some people are. They do what they want regardless of rules.

So are you saying that four areas to smoke isn't making it easy on smokers?

if so, what would make it easy on them?

Well, now that you've figured out that the World is black and white, you should let CP management know, so they can plan accordingly. One smoking area will be enough, obviously.

Seconded.

Hello Everyone,

Do the Cedar Point Police have the power to arrest a person that is smoking a cigarette outside the designated area?

Trent

Just thought of another thing. To people who wear perfume. They say that second hand smoke makes people sick. What about second hand perfume? Perfume makes some people sick as well as second hand smoke. I know this for a fact because perfume makes my mother's asthma act up. LET'S BAN PERFUME AT CEDAR POINT!!! Everyone has to wear unscented deodorant. That should solve the problem. *** Edited 4/5/2007 10:47:12 PM UTC by Trent***

Hopefully they'll just tazer smokers. I would pay an additional $15 on my season pass to watch that. And maybe it would help condition a few more to kick the habit.

I would also agree with you on the perfume idea. And dont forget about "cologne guy". Raise your hand if you have a friend who is "cologne guy"...the poor soul who splashes on half a bottle. Yikes.
