Designated Smoking Areas

No worries.

After a few more years, smoking will not even be allowed in the parks. And that's fine with me.:)

I am still pissed about the guy that was smoking on the midway and bumped me. He burnt a hole in my $125.00 Red wings jersey. I did not notice the hole untill later in the day, or he would have been paying for a new jersey. This was about 2 years ago, and I am still pissed about it.

Oh wait....I must be a whine ass, so I will stop.

I know Six Flags New England has a very strict smoking policy. The policy says: "Smoking outside of the Designated Smoking Area is the cause of **Immediate Ejection from the park. No Refunds.**"

I truly just think it is annoying when people smoke outside of the areas. I don't care if someone smokes, just go to the best sitting area in the park added just for smokers.

No. Whining about how you will pass out and get dizzy if you smell a bit of smoke is being a whine-ass. A valid complaint about a burn hole is not.

As a smoker myself, I see no need for more designated areas. In fact, if they were to ban it outright in the park I would be fine with that too, I'll walk to my car and have one. There are those of us who smoke but will not do it in close proximity to others who don't. We call it respect. If 4 smoking areas are not enough, then plan out your day more accordingly. If not, go buy the patch before you come. The front smoking area across from the salt water taffy store is a perfect example of why it isn't needed. You're a 5 minute walk from the gate to there.

Smoking in the lines could be much more enforced than it is now, if you're a taller stature, or could stand up on a step stool and look above the crowd, you'll see where the smoke is coming from.

It's also my personal opinion that personal odors should be resolved too. Everytime I go there's some fat ...... that didn't put deodorant on and is sweating like a pig in 80 degree heat. It's disgusting to have to smell BO everytime you pass each other in a que.

I am not a smoker and hope never to become one, but I don't mind others smoking. I feel that a whole amusement park, should not be a place to smoke. Since you're in close proximity to large crowds and no one wants burns, or smoke blown at them. I do feel that smokers should be allowed to smoke in designated smoking areas. Which CP has. But if this rule is broken often (which it is) it may be time to do something about it.

Volcano had those and I don't know what the point was. If anyone has been to Kennywood and can remember a year or more back, they had the high seats on ride for the Turnpike. I think Volcano had the same thing in their queues.

At one time was there a little bit of a gang problem at some of the former Paramount Parks? They had both metal detectors, bag inspectors, and line guards. I just thought it did have a few problems. I know Kennywood has had problems in the past and they have implemented the same things.

I'm with Tim on this one. With the new areas in the last week or two, if you can't make it from one to the next without a smoke, you should just stay home. My wife and I both smoke, and knowing where the areas are, we know where to stop and grab a quick one on our way through the park. In contrast to what some others have said earlier in the thread, I have noticed a huge number of people on the midways and in the queues smoking. Drives me nuts. I can't stand people who just don't give a rats ass about anyone else, or the rules. It's a max 10 minute walk to a smoking area now. Can you really not wait ten minutes to light up?

I'm actually hoping that with the addition of the smoking area in the pavilion near the tunnel on frontier trail, they do away with the area near Panda Express.

One thing real quick that someone said about obesity and smoking being regulated. Obesity should NEVER be regulated, and the government shouldn't have to step in to a private business to make their decisions for them. I was in the store last night walking down the candy aisle and went past a very overweight child and her very overweight mother. The kid was out of breath for gods sake just from walking around the store. The government doesn't need to play mommy and daddy, the sad fact is it's the parents who don't give a s--t about their own childrens health. There's no excuse for it, I don't care what your condition is. Parents would tell their kid not to smoke right, so why do they let their kids get fat? Obesity is only a national problem because people are too lazy and irresponsible to get off their butt and do something about it. Me being the only fit member of my family, I see it all the time and it disgusts me as well, but it's a personal problem and we don't need obama or anyone else pushing people for exercise. People need to go outside instead of sitting inside watching their precious tv all day and night.

ANYWAYS...The majority of people I see smoking in line tend to be rather low-brow and less than educated or considerate, and you better believe these are the same people that would throw a fit if smoking was banned in the park. I agree that the littering is bs, I don't understand why people flick them out a window when cars come with ashtrays. My opinion is, remove the people smoking from the line, if they want to ruin they day for themselves go right ahead, the rest of us like Chase, myself, etc will do it properly and politely.

Every time I read a rant like that I get the urge to gulp down a couple of double quarter pounders and extra greasy fries. :)

I was speaking of the government when I said anyone else, apparently you missed the point of the whole "government regulations". Michelle obama is or was on some national campaign to get kids healthy; instead of people being parents and doing it for their own childs well being. It's a great thing that she's doing it, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather see parents taking away the video games, tv time and have kids go out and play like many of us did as children.

Nothing wrong with a couple greasy burgers and fries, that's what I had for lunch :) In fact, tomorrow will be half a greasy pizza at the local restaurant. The difference is exercise. Food doesn't make people fat, people make themselves fat through inaction and procrastination. You don't have to be a vegetarian to be in shape, even overindulgence can be countered. What's the new cop-out, food portions are getting too big? Or is it still blaming McDonalds for their fat content in meals?

Edit: Back on topic, with all the anti-smoking policies and laws in place, I see no reason for Cedar Point not to ban it. They will still be successful no matter what, and if it would make the majority of the public happier then go for it. I'll go to my car to have one and not think twice about it.

Bummer about your jersey, hope that doesn't happen again. The person smoking was in the wrong in more ways than one, and I find it hard to believe they didn't notice bumping you with it if it was enough to burn a small hole, he had to have felt it move in his hand.

I think we can agree on the fact that there is a total lack of parenting in America today. In fact, I'd be 100% supportive of requiring some sort of test before allowing people to become parents, but I guess that would just be more government regulations...

For what it's worth, I don't blame anyone for me being fat. In fact, I'm pretty content with it.

If you are living a happy life I'm happy for you, my issue with it is many want to cast blame on others for their own faults. I could sit here and blame the cigarette companies for my addiction, however it was me that picked up the cigarette and so on. Nothing at all wrong with being confident and content with your own life, that's absolutely a good thing.

I would LOVE for Cedar Point to ban smoking completely.
That was possibly the worst part about being a sweep; having to tell people to put out their cigarettes.
People can be VICIOUS when you ask them to do it. There is no easy way to do it, either. Sometimes they will cuss you out for simply enforcing an already established rule, and other times they will refuse and try to walk away.
Before anyone can say that they had no idea that there was no smoking allowed outside of designated smoking areas, allow me to say this:
1. When you pay for your parking there is a sign in the window mentioning that smoking is only allowed in designated smoking areas.
2. When you enter the park there are signs by the welcome to Cedar Point signs that ask that you please smoke in the designated smoking areas.
3. Every park map has icons for smoking areas, and mentions that smoking is only allowed in designated smoking areas.
4. Every single bathroom has a sign that says that smoking is only allowed in designated smoking areas.
5. You are bound to walk by at least 1 designated smoking area throughout the day. If you pass the sign, it's hard to pass all the smokers!
So I don't see why so many people don't know.
It was just frustrating for me because I would see soooooooo many other employees say NOTHING to smokers, although even I at times would let a smoker walk by from fear of getting cussed out. It would just be easier if CP didn't allow smoking, but I don't see that happening because too many people would just break the rules anyways, because it's their world, and they don't care about the rules and regulations.

I think the way at least one Six Flags park (I can't remember which one) did it was the best. They initiated zero-tolerance, and after a couple of high profile stories on local news stations about people being being booted from the park for smoking, everyone started following the rules. I was at SF Great Adventure a few weeks ago, and it's the first time I've been at a park and never seen anyone smoking outside of a designated area.

When we went to six flags new england, they had a big banner over the entrance. It said this...

"smoking outside of designated smoking areas is cause for immediate ejection from the park without a refund! No warnings"

Maybe cedarpoint should look into doing something like this.

Yeah, I agree - if they're going to have a policy, they should enforce it. Like many others here, I've seen multiple instances of people being told they're smoking in a non-smoking area, after which the employee simply walks away. Though given Pikajane's perspective above, I can certainly understand why there might need to be a greater CPPD presence to properly enforce the policy.
