Demon Drop for Sale!

When they closed off the Demon Drop midway, I was a little confused by the reason they gave for it. They said that they needed more space for the break area, yet that is probably the break area least in need of any more space.

As for replacing Demon Drop with gardens or landscaping...I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. However, those gardens wouldn't stay there the whole season. Much like Dragster's tower area and its mini pine trees surrounding the fenced in area, I could see them trying to make it look like there was nothing to see there.

Oh, and if my suspicions are right, that pavillion has less chance of surviving at the park than Demon Drop.

The employee break area expansion reasons the park gave remind me a lot of 1999, when the train tracks were moved "to allow a better view of the lake".

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Heh, more like giving guests a better view of cars whizzing by. But the ultimate reasoning behind that decision I am able to live with.

Y'know, for the past few years, whenever I rode Raptor... I'd take a look to the left on the staircase just before entering the station at the picnic pavillion there. I couldn't help noticing how nicely a well-designed coaster could squeeze into that footprint. All it would require really is a relocation of the Raptor Hot Shots/Restrooms facility (which, those bathrooms could go for a remodel anyway) to open up an entrance to that area.

I guess I was just looking at the wrong pavillions. ;)

Again, please don't suggest that MI Adv get any more CP rejects.

I agree with some of these posts, there are a lot of times I see walk-downs cause DD broke down loaded. It isn't a consistent ride and I have yet to see a long line for it, has there been a decent line for it anyway?

I don't think there will be a problem selling it, as stated before, 250K wasn't too shabby of a price for a ride that is supposedly in excellent condition.

I do not understand why you would call Deamon Drop a reject and do not want it sent to M.A. and then turn around and say 250K is not a bad price for someone else to purchase the ride. That just sounds like a double standard to me. How can the ride not be good for one park at no cost, but good for another park for 250K? Either it is a good ride or it's not!

Not to mention that there's already one in a park that they own an hour east. With the exception of exsisting rides, I doubt you'll see the same ride appear in both parks anytime soon.

Yes I know one is a Vekoma and the other would be a B&M but it's highly unlikely. Why would you want to build something that will take away from another park of yours in the same market.

I don't mean to quote you Rob, but we saw Wicked Twister come in and Geauga Lake has that. So why not have a floorless come into Cedar Point. Especially if it goes into frontiertown, which will certainly bring people to that side of the park. Here's a sarcastic note, lets trade Mantis to Geauga Lake for Dominator. That would be a good move but we all know that will never happen.

I don't think it's fair to say they "share a market." They share a portion of a market, but how many people do you see from Detroit heading over to Geauga Lake? I know I wouldn't drive past Cedar Point to get to SFW... I mean... Geauga Lake.

^Steel Venom was a Six Flag's creation. CF was competing with SF when WT was built. Though both rides are unique.

I've seen some people from Michigan drive all the way to Geauga Lake, but not many. There were more Pennslyvania License plates then Michigan believe it or not. There were a lot of Ohio Plates there as well. DUH!

I didn't get a chance to ride DD this year :( I assumed that I would just ride it next year since I never got to it. Sad thing is that I have NEVER been on it, although I want to.

Well I'm not sure where your from but maybe it will come to you.

Ok, and who told you that?

It is sad that Demon Drop will go, because I can reminisce with friends of thinking it was once the scariest ride in the park. But in my opinion, it is a bit outdated for the park. I wouldn't mind if it stayed, I enjoy the last minute ride with a short wait before I leave the park. But I embrace the idea of removing it if it is the opportunity cost of adding another, more exciting ride to the park.

Even if a new ride goes in another area, Cedar Point has proved that they can fit big things into small areas. Remember when everybody doubted a 300+ coaster in Frontier?

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

Yeah, made possible by a 45 degree angled elevator cable lift. I love MF, but Paddlewheel Excursions was never the same again. Of course you can go back even farther with the additions of Camp Snoopy, Mantis, and Iron Dragon.

Based on Kinzel's comments in Suday's Toledo Blade, I'd say that Disaster Transport is on the way out. For me, the Demon drop sale confirms it...I hope that tin can comes out of there so I can actually see Lake Erie in that end of the park

"Show me a 450 in skee ball and I'll show you a wasted childhood."

I actually do not see them removing Disaster Transport. I mean, how many other pakrs have you been to that have bobsled coasters?

Do you really hate the ride or do you just hate the building? I would honestly love to see a return of the themeing and yes, a redeisigned outer structure of the building.

If Cedar Point were to remove Disaster Transport, I could see Michigan Adventure taking it, since they have a lot of room to expand, they would gladly take that ride of Cedar Points Hands. Thats my opionion.

I actually see them putting in a new large steel coaster.
And I want them to purchase DD.
