A revamp of the front of the park wouldn't be a bad idea. With the games being right on your way out of the park right there on the midway they are probably making more money from them this year. What I would like to see are some digital wait time signs like IOA has and one of those posts that has the wait times of all the major rides. Anyone who has been to IOA knows how convenient that is.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
I like demon drop its like my favorite non-coaster. Iwas at the park a view days ago we went on it like 4 times in a row. We had a lot of fun putting money on are kness and watching it go weightless and catching them before they fly away :)

On Channel 3 news yesterday it said the ride would be relocated if now buyers came forward, relocated for future expansion....but then they said Cedar Point would not comment on the expansion...

For them having "nothing [in] the works for that property" according to Edwards, they sure seem to want it out of that particular spot for some reason...
Things that make you go "hmmmm."

I really like the idea of CP revamping the front of the park. I'd bet with some serious forethought (using lessons learned from the current layout) they could keep what they have up there and reduce their land usage considerably. With the removal of DD added into the mix, they could free up some serious space up there.
Perhaps thats their plan - Reorganize the front of the park and prepare it for future attractions, the first of which we'd prolly see in '07.

CP Bound, it could be that they didn't originally have any plans to announce anything for sale, but the San Antonio newspaper forced their hand and to soothe the enthusiasts they released what is up for sale. It may be up for sale as a "Well, if we can sell it we will, but if not, we don't mind keeping it." as opposed to a "We need to get rid of this NOW."

I find the fact that they seem to want the land it resides on free more interesting. The El Paso paper article probably extradited PR's involvement though.
PR says one thing about the immediate development of that area, but then they seem to contradict themselves by saying that it will be relocated if it doesn't get sold. If they have no immediate plans to alter that area of the park, why would they bother spending the money and go through the hassle of moving it?

There not just going to take out Rides in very very good condition for the hell of it, & I doubt there in it for the money either...

DD's current location isn't the best for foot traffic. I could see it being moved to various locations. CP is up to something and I'm sure we won't be disappointed. (keeping DD would be a great plus)
I really like the sound of a new front entrance. Everything seems to be pretty outdated up front.

You're prolly dead-nutz on...
They must really need to move it to get to that land, and figure that they can offset the cost of moving it by trying to sell it.
Just seems like they would want to keep it based on historical value... its part of the skyline and always will be, at least in my head.
Brandon
If it's not sold (a major park objective, I believe), they'll move it to one of their other parks. But, it is high maintenance and I'd bet they'd be happier getting rid of it. Just my 2 cents.
That area of the park has been getting a lot of attention over the last couple of years (WT, maXair). Maybe that area will be seeing more attention.

At the end of the season 2003, throughout the ride maintenance department I began hearing rumors about the removal of the Hofbrau complex. At the time I took the rumor with a grain of salt, and sure enough the park opened the next summer with Hofbrau still intact. Now with Demon Drop up for sale, I'm thinking back to that rumor and wonder if some of the parks early planning may have leaked out and sparked that rumor back then.

If anyone is interested, I came upon this petition on another site. It most likly is a waste of time but I really don't think a ride like Demon Drop isn't ready to go yet. It is still serving thrills very well.
Here's the petition...

Note: As I'm reading around more and more about DD being for sale, how long has the ride been on the market. It may have been for sale for a while and CP kept it quiet. *** Edited 8/17/2005 11:02:19 PM UTC by Gomez***

Mill Race opened way back in 63, which in my mind, makes it a "classic CP ride." WWL opened in 82, which I consider to be a larger, "better" version of MR. They coexisted for 11 years, until MR was removed in 93. As far as I'm aware, MR was the last "major" ride removed from the park. The very next year, Raptor was put in its place.
I'm sure everyone here considers DD a classic. However, there's now PT, again, a bigger "better" version of DD. They've been running together for 7 years. My guess is that CP would like to keep both rides, but if the opportunity came up to put something in that's totally different from anything else in the park (like Raptor was), they'd get rid of a duplicate. A landmark at the park, sure, but still a duplicate and inferior product compared to the similar PT.
Don't get me wrong, I love DD, have very fond memories of being scared out of my shoes when I was a kid, and would hate to see it go. And PT would never replace DD for me. As recent history shows us, however, and also from a business standpoint, I don't think we'll be seeing just a glorified flower pot in that spot when it is sold.
They're obviously looking to get rid of it for a reason, and it ain't for a bunch of posies.
Sure beer isn't a focus but it's still an easy money maker. And i would bet that those responsible for the P/L of the foods department would like to expand the offerings.
And i don't think the park would ever see a six flags-like demise. It's just that i fear that the recent moves and lagging interest in parks in general will finally knock CP off of its pedestal... Which may not be the worst thing in the world anyway. I just find myself losing faith in the decision making process for the park in a general sense. Sorry to be such a downer.

Indeed.
And why, this year, was a new employee break area installed where Lotsapalooza used to be, when an existing break area of adequate size was right behind it? That had me puzzled from the word go... now, it just seems to make a little bit more sense.
My question now is, what do you think the lifespan of the picnic pavillion in that area is? Those empty cargo containers at the back of the park awaiting closing day to haul away the ole' Double-D?
Looks like the pieces of the puzzle are starting to fit...

This is just my opinion. I think Cedar Point wants to sell Demon Drop because they want to expand into that area and revamp that area of the park like they did with MaXair area. I hightly doubt they are going to take it out just so they can plant a garden. That would just be stupid! Whenever Cedar Point removes a ride or relocates it, you know its for some kind of new ride. My opinion is they want to sell Demon Drop because its high maintinance and they want to spend money selling it to spend money towards a new attraction. If they expand into the parking lot(employee), maybe like 6 rows at least! they have enough room to fit in a good size Flyer. They would have to expand part of the midway where you enter through one of the gift shops.
No offense, but I'm tired of hearing the on going speculation about a stupid flyer. The park could use some more flat rides.

Not to mention that there's already one in a park that they own an hour east. With the exception of exsisting rides, I doubt you'll see the same ride appear in both parks anytime soon.
Yes I know one is a Vekoma and the other would be a B&M but it's highly unlikely. Why would you want to build something that will take away from another park of yours in the same market.
