Demon Drop for Sale!

Hey I bet since Cedar Point is selling Demon Drop, you can expect that line to be longer than usually because people want to have at least one more ride on it.

Walt if you're going to do that, why not get rid of the beergardens or whatever it is over on the other side, and the picnic pavilions and really open up/revamp the front of the park? The possibilities are endless, really.

I'll buy that. Hofbrau is one of my favorites. It doesn't appear to be that popular, though, probably because of its location. They could offer an expanded menu selection elsewhere.

There was just a feature about the Deamon Drop being sold on the WDIV channel four news at six. Oddly though they said that if you have upwards of a couple million dollars that anyone could purchase it. Also they said that the Deamon Drop was being sold to make room for a new attraction, lets hope they are correct and it won't just be a glorified flower bed. I'm also praying that it's not a HUSS Topspin.

Does anyone else remember the cheesy commercial for the Demon Drop when it opened. I remember a young guy on it with lots of red lights and smoke around him. It was cool then but probably cheesy now. haah... I hope it stays.

That commercial was great. (Sigh) Memories! ;)

In that old commercial, weren't the words "Demon Drop, Demon Drop, Demon Drop" being chanted over and over?

I've started a thread on CoasterBuzz to relocated Demon Drop to Michigan Adventure. If your interested in lobbying Cedar Point and Michigan Adventure to save and relocate Demon Drop to Michigan Adventure, I'd suggest emailing, phoning, or the best writting a letter to:
Michigan Adventure: 4750 Whitehall Rd, Muskegon, Mi. 49445
Phone: 231 766 3377 or email info@miadventure.com.
Cedar Point: One Cedar Point Drive Sandusky, Ohio 44870-5259
Phone: 419 627 2350 or email: info@cedarpoint.Com.
Please let me know if you contacted the parks.
We can make a change and perserve a Kick A ride!

Again, please don't suggest that MI Adv get any more CP rejects.

I agree with some of these posts, there are a lot of times I see walk-downs cause DD broke down loaded. It isn't a consistent ride and I have yet to see a long line for it, has there been a decent line for it anyway?

I don't think there will be a problem selling it, as stated before, 250K wasn't too shabby of a price for a ride that is supposedly in excellent condition.

Yeah I always seem to hear "Signal 37 Demon Drop Mechanical Reverse Drive" everytime I am at the Point.

At least you explained exactly what that is. Must give you a work out to climb all those stairs.

You have no idea... you're winded by the time you get up or down them. Those stairs are killer. The railings need to be higher too, I practically fell out of the tower when it was extreamly windy one day.

For people not "in the know" Signal 37 means that a ride is shut down with people on

They could really liven the whole front of the park up, change the entrance around, add some restaurants, add some attractions and put in sign boards, better lockers, better restrooms, and transform the entire front of the park between well the parking lot and Sky Ride's East Station.

I personally think it could be awesome what they do. There is so much room to the park side of Blue Streak and they wouldn't even have to go into the parking lot.

Edit: Awww Chris, you're revealing the secret of Signal 37 ;)

Yep, followed by a scream. I remember those ads well!

Hofbrau is in a bad spot. We had a conversation with the PKI marketing people at BeastBuzz and they have a similar problem with the place just inside the gate on the left. It used to be Asian food, this year it was a burrito joint. It's just not a good location to sell food near the gate.

Especially when, during the course of a day, there isn't much reason for the average guest to go past the Sky Ride East Station/Centennial theater/Demon Drop Entrance except to go to the car. I can't honestly say I've ever been in front of that stand at a time I'm looking for food, and furthermore if I was I'd hit up donut time, the old cheese on a stick place behind the parlor (which isn't there anymore, I know) or Midway Market.

Think about what they just put in -- MaxAir. What did MaxAir displace? A LOT of revenue generation for these guys. Think about how much money per MINUTE they made off idiot dads like me who just HAD to win their kids a stuffed raccoon and spent $60 to do it.

They're going to replace the entire game section, just watch. They're going to get as close to gambling as they can. There is less foot traffic in that area; all the rides and/or kiddie areas are north of there. I mean, how many times do you go down to that end of the park. Really! They want to maximize revenue per square foot. Just watch.

I know the real reason behind them getting rid of Demon Drop...

They have reached the maximum number of Intamin rides specified within their contract with the company. Now they have to take out an old one everytime they want to put a new one in.

Next is Disaster Transport, and then possibly Jr. Gemini or Thunder Canyon after that.

Ok Thunder Canyon is not an Intamin Ride. Second why would Cedar Point remove one of their best water rides in the park? That ride is one of the best out there. They would probably go after Disaster Transport next. If that contract is correct, we will probably see another coaster come in from Intamin. Cedar Point would fight though to keep Thunder Canyon.

Ummm.....he was being sarcastic. Why would Intamin even think about making a loyal customer remove a ride built by themselves in order to allow them to purchase another ride from their company? And, secondly, Thunder Canyon is an Intamin ride. Most rapids rides are.

Coaster Count: 147

When I got my tour of the park, as part of my employee training last year, I was told the purpose of Hofbrau. The guy said it caters to dads who have had a long drive up to the park with the kids in the back seat. When he gets to the park, the first thing he needs a drink.

I think Cedar point in general would rather not sell booze, with the exception of the swim up bar. It is offered in very few locations, and besides beer, very few spirits are available that i know of. I think they are selling it more as a convenice service to guests, rather than to turn a huge profit.

Beer is always a huge profit. And if the park doesn't look at it that way they are fools of the highest order.

And i too would hate to see the Demon Drop go. It's kind of another tiny step in a series of tiny steps in the wrong direction for this park. Especially during the downswing of general public interest in parks.

Don't worry Cedar Point will be fine! Just look at what happend to them in the past way back when. They went through like 3 owners. They almost shut down a couple times back in the Fourties and Fiftys due to the depression.

Cedar Point Is having trouble because Ohio is having trouble. We are losing jobs here quickly, gas prices are high. Rest assured though Cedar Fair is not in debt. They know how to manage their finances.

bholcomb's avatar

Pushing large amounts of beer is not what they're trying to do at Cedar Point. Honestly, they don't need a bunch of drunk idiots running around. That doesn't positively contribute to the family atmosphere of the park. I can understand why they wouldn't really push alcohol on the peninsula (which is quite evident).
