I've always wanted to perserve a ride.....I would think that if MA wanted it, they would have taken it. It was probably offered internally first and now is on the market. This is not to say I don't want it at MA, but I'm not going to hold my breath until it happens.

I think Cedar Point has something up their sleeves, otherwise they wouldn't be selling Demon Drop. They probably want to expand that area. You could Fit a good size Flyer in that area. Look at the picture again yall and tell me what you think. If you take out 6-8 rows of the employees parking, they'll still have plenty of room to park.

Exactly. Logic would suggest that at an initial investment of 2.5 million that if they were still happy with its operating condition, they would pass it onto one of their parks rather than put it up for sale.

As for Brian Edwards claiming that they will keep it if there is no buyer and that they don't have any immediate plans for that area...

I don't buy that for a second. Had that El Paso article not been posted, I suspect that we would still be in the dark about it leaving.

"If we can sell it, we will sell," he said. "If not, we will keep it."

That's a little comforting...

Isn't it odd that DD is not only the only Freefall being removed: Geauga Lake's and Magic Mountain's is in the process of being removed.

The Amazement Park

DOH!

This upsets me a lot. The very first thing I ever rode at Cedar Point was the Demon Drop. I always felt like I owned it. Like it was my piece of the park. I guess the only thing I have left is the fountain on the main midway.

Funny short story. In 1988 my family and I were leaving the park. My step-dad and I got one last ride in on Demon Drop as we were on our way out. At some point (un-noticed) his car keys fell out of his pocket and on to the ground below.

Fast forward about 15 minutes.

We got to the car and noticed no keys. My mom called a locksmith to come and help us get in and start the car while my step-dad did some keen negotiating with the people at the gate.

They let him in and he got his keys after looking for them for about 10 minutes. As we were leaving the park we saw a locksmith truck with his spot light on looking for our Pontiac STE. We drove like crazy out of there.

Moral of the story: Connect your keys by some secure means to your belt loop.

the one thing that gets me think is that the orther park was there looking at the ride. i think dd is a lot of fun. will miss it and it will change the park skyline forever. why dose ever one want a flyer so bad

Could you image if the El Paso article didnt come out and the off-season came around. All the sudden, You would have heard about the cranes that are in the front of the park dismantling DD.. Then all the spec about a new ride would begin...

GO REDWINGS!
GO PISTONS!

I like Demon Drop much better than PT. Demon Drop seems to fall faster and gives a better freefall effect.

I rode DD Sunday and I still love the rush they better keep it.

This is very sad news. The fact that their taking down a ride that has been a landmark to the park since it was put in over 20 years ago is rather disappointing. Also the whole fact that there aren't any plans to put in something new just yet. The main entrance area in 2006 is going to be a very sad area. Demonless.

All I can say to any park looking to buy our DD is, "the ride sucks, if you think about buying it then you're in for a nightmare of a ride. Just let CP continue to suffer with this junk of a ride." ;)

DD will be missed.

I called this back on 8/9:

"Honestly? If the article does indeed speak of Cedar Point removing a ride. . .

. . .my best guess is Demon Drop."

Who knows what will happen to that area. . .I don't want DD to go, either, though. . .it is still a fun ride, and the noise is classic.

I know the real reason behind them getting rid of Demon Drop...

They have reached the maximum number of Intamin rides specified within their contract with the company. Now they have to take out an old one everytime they want to put a new one in.

Next is Disaster Transport, and then possibly Jr. Gemini or Thunder Canyon after that.

Does anyone else remember the cheesy commercial for the Demon Drop when it opened. I remember a young guy on it with lots of red lights and smoke around him. It was cool then but probably cheesy now. haah... I hope it stays.

This make me really sad.... I was hoping to come back in ten years and show my kids (God willing I have any by then) where I worked at Cedar Point. (and yes... they're cars)

now for the part that I wouldn't say if I still worked there....

That being said we have alot of downtime. The ride goes down loaded many times a day for reverse drives, espically near the end of the year when the brakes are worn. That's when the car after falling dosen't quite make it to the drive wheels at the end of the runout (great picture of them here: http://www.pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?i=378 ) When this happens the car that is in the lift will stop at the horizontal transfer and not move forward. Then one of the hosts has to run up the tower and make sure that the people in the tower aren't feaked out. Maitnence comes and just gives the car in the runout a little push and then it goes back up right away. It's simple, not a mechanical failure, but a pain for maitnence. *** Edited 8/16/2005 9:29:24 PM UTC by liebevision***

Yeah I always seem to hear "Signal 37 Demon Drop Mechanical Reverse Drive" everytime I am at the Point.

At least you explained exactly what that is. Must give you a work out to climb all those stairs.

Get rid of it, it's outdated technology and makes the devil's own noise (which doesn't bother me, but bodes for mechanical problems).

The reason it may not end up at another CF park is that it's a pain in the a$$ to maintain. If it's a problem, why move it to another CF Park?

How about moving the Midway Carousel over to that spot? That opens up the bottleneck at the front entrance and let's them do something more interesting there.
