As I said in the locked thread, the simplest explanation is that they just wanted to get rid of an older ride, that has become expensive to maintain, and doesn't exactly pack 'em in on even the busiest days.
However, there is a picnic pavillion over there, too.
Hmmm.
It's been a long time since I used one of those picnic areas. How busy do they get these days?

I just want to know, can I buy it or do i have to own an amusement park.
Do you have $250,000 and a place to put it?

It wouldn't be hard to imagine that someone who's owned a house for a while has a quarter million in equity. If you live in an even moderately rural location, you've got the 200x400 feet. The zoning for a 130ft tall structure might be tricky, unless you are really out in the sticks.
The big problem: can you supply the 91kw the thing needs to run?
(That'll make your meter spin!)
Does someones have the aerial image of CP that was used in a couple of posts? I would be curious to see the whole area over there, since the CP map is mot accurate. I am not sure were the picnic area is and were the parking lots starts and stops in relation to the ride. (I will see on Wednesday though, I will be staying at Lighthouse point for 3 days :) .

If you are interested, I found a petition to save Demon Drop:

I'm number 23 on the petition! Actually, though I'll miss the ride, I won't mind a park expansion in that area.

you guys have to remember that more that hardcore enthusiasts visit parks. i'm not a huge fan of demon drop, but i remember the first time i rode it as a kid. i was TERRIFIED. i'm sure lots of kids LOVE demon drop and a precursor to power tower. you can't start at 300'. its sad that its being sold. its a classic as far as i'm concerned. then again, i LOVED the mill race too. :-(
Don't get rid of it. Relocate it like you would any other ride.

Nah, I'm not happy with this at all. I am all for expanding and upgrading, but Demon Drop? There is nothing wrong with it. I had some fun times on that ride and now they are getting rid of it. This is like Pirate Ride all over again.

How do you know that nothing is wrong with it? How do you know that the company that supplied parts went under, or they lost the manual ;) I think there's something with the freefalls when Hyde's and DD go up at the same time.
Well you can bet that if CP is taking out DD (any ride for that matter) they are planning something for that area. For example, GW was moved then MF came in, Chaos and Troika were moved and Swabichin was taken out and TTD came in, and the games were moved and then they built maXair. But I really would like to see it moved instead of sold. Like it was said it has a small footprint so it wouldn't be too hard to find a place for it.
Thats what I wrote in the petition. I said if you have to move move it some where else in the park. Also I am going to write a complaint to CP as well. This is one of my favorite flat rides in the park.

So, it was your petition? Nice work; and I'll tell my friends to sign. How many signatures are you shooting for? I'm just curious.

No it wasn't my petition, it was what I wrote as my comment. Any way this is what I sent to CP.
Hello Cedar Point, I was very sad even angered by the decision to sell Demon Drop. Demon Drop is a great classic ride that deserves to stay at the park. If you need to move it please don't sell it move it to another location in the park. I am not the only one who feels this way either, there is a petition that I know of http://www.petitiononline.com/dmndrop/petition.html and on this fan site there is disagreement as well. http://www.pointbuzz.com/cpplace.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=17143 As I said before move it don't sell it. Demon Drop is a great ride for all ages. Please send this message to who ever might be able to change the out come of this decision. Thank You for reading this, I hope that you guys will have a change of heart.

I'm guessing that the hassle of relocating, coupled with the low ridership and maintenance upkeep is the reason for the sell. I'm disappointed to see it go, but at the same time I'm very interested to see why it's going and what could be put in its place.
Italics has outlined the most probable reasons for its removal.
For those of you who are so upset with its removal...say you had a choice between DD staying and a new ride to replace it. What would be worth its removal in your eyes?

When they remove rides (even if they're replacing them with something different), they're still hurting the bottom line for the park. You take out DD to put in some new mega-coaster - and you just took away rides for the younger generation that will later grow up to be loyal followers to CP. That's what car companies are finally realizing. If you can snag people when they're young, they won't desert you nearly as quick.
I was hoping that the disaster they caused at Geauga Lake would've made them rethink removing attractions. They even said in that news article that they messed up, but, it looks like they didn't mess up enough.
I am extremely disappointed with the selling of Demon Drop. However, that Wildcat coaster can't be Cedar Point's since it says it was built in 1972 and Wildcat at Cedar Point was built in 1979, I believe.
Race For The Sky!
Rides can't stay forever. Maybe Cedar Point is doing this because the ride is down too much for maintenance. They are also looking into the future of Cedar Point. My thought though is that they'd have to create another midway if they are creating a Flyer to be next to Disaster Transport. I mean that's a big area right there. The parking lot, and DD old spot. Someone look at the parkmap next time you have a chance and you'll see what I mean.
