Crazy things you hear while waiting in line...

You got it! The part that looks like a piece of a flume. ;)

4 summers of employment in ride operations does stuff to you.

I think it's funny when my friends would get weary of riding TTD or Wicked Twister because they would sway or shake, thinking it was unsafe.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

This wasn't in line, but walking down the midway near Dragster. A guest points to the yellow line on the ground that was painted for the parade route and asks his friend "When did Cedar Point install the sobriety test lines?"

I think it is funny when TTD is being worked on by maintenance and they are out on the track with thier tools fixing it. People in line waiting for it to open again see the workers cleaning up their tools and walking the catwalk back to the station. They say: Wow, lets watch the train launch now! now we get to ride!

Another, in line for cornstalkers at night, me and my friend were talking to this other couple in front of us. We came onto the subject of what the ride crew does when MF's train gets stuck on the hill. We told them MF does not have a catwalk, like magnum and others do. They freaked out. Then, we told them that they use a bucket- like lift to unload people 2 at a time, and take them down to the station safely. The woman still didnt get what we were saying, and asked this:

"So they take apart the coaster's individual cars and lower them, one by one, back down to the station?" We laughed sooo hard.....

I heard a few good ones this past weekend.

In line for Top Thrill Dragster: There is a coaster just like this but has two hills and is taller and faster in Europe. It's called "Chupra Kie".

Riding Shoot the Rapids: Next year I'm going to Geauga Lake's Halloweekends.

I heard that magnum was sinking.:)

There was a note in my courtesy corps guide devoted to this, and in all caps it said THIS RUMOR IS NOT TRUE.

Well this one I'm going to mention has to do with ignorance. You ever stand in line and all you hear the ride ops yelling at the guests because they don't follow simple rules? That happened to me my last trip to Cedar Point. I swear for Power Tower, they had to yell at people several times to not cut through the grass or not to sit on the silver hand rails.

(sorry for the double post!)
I was one of those ride ops at Power Tower screaming at everyone. People would got really upset when we told them you are not allowed to cut across the median, even if there is no line for space shot. I felt a little bad though, because if I were a guest, I probably would have honestly done the same thing. But the railings are there for a reason, they are not meant to be jumped under. But I really wish they would install a sign at the beginning of the ride stating that basketballs are not allowed; I am pretty sure they have a sign for large stuffed animals but I had to turn down so many basketball carriers. And what annoyed me to no extent is when people got to the turnstile, and they'd ask "is this the one that shoots you down?" They pass 2 SIGNS specifically telling them which line to enter. I always make them walk back if they want to switch.
Oh, and bushes do NOT constitute as lockers or non-riders. I know, people are cheap, people want to play games, but when you go to Cedar Point, you have to expect to pay money. Also, Cedar Point's admission is a lot lower than other major theme parks, so fork over the money and get a locker. What get's me is when people got upset over their stuff being stolen. Wouldn't have been a problem if you just paid for a $2 locker.
The ride hosts at MF and TTD were especially annoyed by people abandoning their stuff in bushes and trees, and they used to try and coax me into bringing bags and purses to the lost and found. I did it once early in my job, and the lost and found people were pissed. Sweeps are not allowed to pick up bags or anything else that looks as though it were intentionally set down. A thief could potentially make a lucrative heist at Cedar Point...

Well it's a brand new year as of last Saturday which means we will most likely hear some crazy things while waiting in line. The first one that I heard on opening day was this young kid claiming that Raptor was the tallest roller coaster in the park. Granted, I know he's a kid, but still that's funny!

I had a good laugh on Opening Day night when a whole group of kids came running up to the Mean Streak entrance. The line was no more than 5 minutes so there was no time on the front sign. They looked at the sign for a few seconds and one of the members said "the wait must be too long... they ran out of numbers" than another kid of the group said "lets go ride Maverick instead the line is shorter" and they walked away!

lol i love this thread, :)

I like then the know it alls at the park talk about rides and such when they say something that is totally wrong about something.....it should be funny this year with windseeker ;)

Sometimes when I am a guest, I will talk to people in my group rather loudly, and say things like "I'm not too worried though. Nobody has died on this ride in a few years" so that I can silently instill fear in the people around me that will believe anything.
I am a terrible person

Here's an illustration of something that happened in line over opening weekend (not to me but to a friend).

I'll be surprised how many people actually get/understand the different faces/memes.

LOL

My Short hand/CP = cedar point/TTD = Top thrill dragster/MF= Millennium Force/Mav = Maverick/WT= Wicked Twister/Mag = Magnum

Just recently this past Friday, I heard a young girl tell her friends that they were going to go ride Demon Drop once they were done riding Ocean Motion. One of her friends asked, where is demon drop located now? The first young girl that made that claim said they moved Demon Drop to the back of the park by Mean Streak. I thought to myself thinking hmm....lol. Some people don't follow the news I guess. :)

^I wonder how disappointed they were when they realized it wasn't there. Would have been priceless!

I had a guest come through...It wasn't in line per say, but still...But still

He was in his harness and his gf was next to him, they were both slim & whatnot so no like big guest problems...But she was talking about how the harnesses hurt her and it was just causing her all sorts of pain. Her bf next to her just said "spread your legs more and it shouldn't hurt as bad." I doubt he knew what he said because he didn't have a smile on his face, or anything, ect...But I hear the guy in the row behind them in the car just yell "that's what she said." I lost it over the mic....Best day at work ever

^ thats why the ride is called cork "screw".....

sorry couldnt resist ;)

Yesturday, in line for magnum, a couple turned around and asked my group what ride was that...it took me a second but then I realized he was pointing to the first hill of the same coaster we were in line for! And they were serious.

People who don't know me think I'm quiet...People who do, wish i was!

On multiple occasions I've seen people leave the Magnum line because they don't think they're in line for "that one" as they point to Magnum's lift hill.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
