coaster final height

Hey Phil,

I'm sure your a nice kid and all, but according to your birthday of 3/5/88 you're 14. You know, (and your supposed to know) nothing. I was a physics major in school and I'm tellin ya there's no way a blast up coaster is making 400 feet, twisting no less, which is what it appears to be doing!. Oh, and by the way, it's going up at 90 degrees. Break out the slide rule guys and do the numbers. If I'm wrong about this, I'm glad (400+ is sick) and I apologize.

See ya at the Point MAY 03'. Breakers Tower Suites.

Since its going strait up wouldn't that make it easier to make it up to that height. There is less friction that way you know.

Yes, the physics have been done over, and over trying to prove it to people in denial and the ignorant...trust us, it WILL be "sick" as you say. :)

Thanks CP Bound for the info. I knew the weight of the cars was high, but not that heavy. If that's true maybe 400 feet is not so high considering the inertia of 20+ tons at 110 mph will create, not to mention the force that huge tower will have to withstand. Have you ever gone on STE at SFMM?
I noticed the some of the pully assembly has arived for the hydro. launcher white to blend in with red & white track on the launch side:)

No, I haven't ridden S:TE, but I've seen it many times. The hyraulic launch is a vast improvement upon launching...acceleration and energy conservation-wise. Traveling around 1000 feet in 3 seconds or less will be tight!

michael Corio, if you are talking about the physics of getting to 400 feet with a certain speed, the mass of the train doesn't matter (since gravity is constant for all objects, regardless of mass).

The structure is estimated to be standing 325' right now, so if they just stopped now and capped it off with track wouldnt it still be the tallest in the world?
Full circuit, yeah, but what about Superman? That's what CP is really after...

Something tells me that CP cares very little about S:TE and Magic Mountain. They care about our money.. the Easterners.. not the Californians.

True that mass doesn't matter when talking about gravity. However, it matters very much when dealing with inertia. A heavier train is going to to have a lot more inertia going up the tower than a light train would.

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that? :)

I remember seeing a site that had listed all the coaster projects for 2003 . The CP ride by Intamin they called a ROCKET COASTER AND 330 ' TALL .After seeing the pics of the trains in the lot, they do look like rockets. So I'm going for 330' rocket themeing and speed.

The big question is , how big will the trains be .

2-3-4- cars, more ??One note, the rocket train cars where next to some curbing ,as a point of reference to size ,they seemed small .

How wide are the trains on MF ? And I still havn't heard anybody talk about the turn around for the trains either. Continuess track all the way around???What.

I don't think trains are on site, as of yet.

If you're referring to the latest "controversial" pics, I believe the parts that "look like rockets" are parts of the launch system, not the train.

Yes, it does have more inertia, but are you really talking about mometum? Inertia is, more or less, just another way of saying mass. Momentum is mass times velocity... and since impulse (force x time) is equal to the change in momentum, a train traveling with more momentum would require a larger force (air resistance, friction, etc) to slow it down and bring it to a lower momentum. So I do see how mass does play a small role in the situation.

Yeah, Majin, he can't mean inertia. The physics major doesn't seem to have done too well in his major...
A certain speed means a certain height. Period.

I've always wondered if the hydraulic launch monitors speed-- or if it just puts out a discrete amount of energy. Anyone know?

gravity:

They did seem small for trains but if thats the case then they could be themening for the ride itself. any thoughts about the turnaround for the trains??

I was just looking at intamin web site and look at this what they said,

Intamin AG are one of the leading manufacturers of thrill rides in the world, and c laim to offer the newest rides which many thought were un-feasible. Intamin invented the River Rapids ride and also holds many other accolades:First Coaster to Reach 100mph
First Coaster to Feature 8 Inversions
First Coaster to Feature 10 Inversions
First Full-Circuit Coaster to Reach 300ft Tall
First Launched Inverted Coaster
First Plug and Play Wooden Coaster Track

First Full-Circuit Coaster Over 400ft Tall (Watch This Space!)
Are they talking about the new ride at cedar point I think they are what do you think?

I do think it is because they say that they have built a 300' rollercoaster so they are talking about the ride they are building.
