coaster final height

First, only 25 people know about this ride. I doubt that the custodial worker scaling the Power Tower or up to the beach cam knows. The ground cam on the other hand, I think that might tell us something more about other elements of the ride.

Second, does CP put out teasers? Yes, but I think this would be a little too given. Why not have the teaser in the little animated header on the page. Have a big question mark as the height or just the current progress?

Wow, that is quite possibly the best, most thought out post I have seen here jdubya. Your reasoning with the tower being in sections seems to be a very good idea. I am pretty convinced that you have hit the nail right on the head and have pretty much decoded the height of this thing.

In response to two other posts, yes that was quite a storm, and it did look like Sandusky got hit pretty hard, but not as hard as Van Wert county where the storms left two people dead. Also, yes, CP does put out teasers on the web page. There was one last year for WT, and in a way, they are doing it again this year with the webcams.

The first of those storms first popped up right here above my house in Tennessee. It was a sunny day then a small dark cloud rolled in and seconds later they were sounding the tornado alarms (so naturally I went to the deck to see) and the funnel cloud was forming right above me. It was gone just as fast as it came and then that line of storms hit. I'm off topic, I know. But the adrenaline pumping from looking at the tornado above me was kinda like riding MF for the first time (just to tie it in ;) )

The Fast and the Fearless

psst psst... after you've done it a couple times, its really not a big deal to climb to the top of rides. I'm sure the person who went up and repositioned the webcam did so as second nature and really wouldnt mind if he had to go back up. Besides, one of the best parts of going to the top is sitting down, relaxing, and taking in the incredible view.

Thanks, Ralph.

Sorry to hear about the storm-related deaths. Hopefully there aren't any more. The word tragedy gets thrown around pretty freely now-a-days but this is a case where it truely applies. It makes 400'+ rollercoasters seem pretty insignificant. I live about 20 miles east of CP and we had a lot of rain and winds 60-70 mph. A few trees came down on power lines but I think everyone is ok around here.

WOW dude.. I basically thought exactly what you did, and have been posting about it for weeks now, but you went the distance and even decoding those #s. Way to go. You just proved to me that this thing is going to be a structural masterpiece, and everyone who still hates CP because "its not their style" seriously needs to have their internet connection revoked until May of 2003.

I'll be there opening day! no doubt!

And a question for those who are already 'disappointed' with a ride whose information has not been released yet- Is the glass half empty, or half full?

All depends on whether you are drinking or pouring :)

You guys, seriously. If you are looking at the webcam to get an exact height, you really need to get out of the house and away from the computer.

It is definitely a general view of the ride being built. No one knows exactly how the ride will look completed in the webcam so how could they set it. And I agree, all three webcameras have different amounts of space above whats already done. Let the ride be built or atleast announced.

Gang, why do we even have this thread? I'm positive comments have been made previously about S:TE at Magic Mountain being the tallest coaster in the world for a few months longer. If that's not the ultimate clue...I don't know what is?

Looks like we may already know the final height! Look at this. (look under "intamin")

http://www.coasterglobe.com/features/newfor-2003/

This says that the height is 330 feet. Maybe this site knows something we don't?!?!?!

Yeah, but we know something they don't, like a floorless for SFMM by B&M. I would put very little though into what they have to say about CP's ride. Just look at jdubya's arguments...they are quite compelling. I'd say he's got it down!

Kel - Interesting information from CoasterGlobe. Thanks.

100m seems like a nice round metric number and a reasonable one for "Dragster". I think that most of the reasonable people on this site have been talking about this kind of a number (i.e. 330 feet).

I think that JDUBYA's 450 feet is bordering on the ridiculous! He's got everything being patched together on top of the tower. However, his very first de-coding of Intimin's markings is wrong! Intimin did NOT begin their part numbers with "16" to match up with the fact that this will be CP's 16th coaster!! Companies simply do not do that. Eight levels to the tower??? I don't think so. And I don't think that I will eat those words.

Come down to Earth, those of you who are so sure that this thing will exceed 400 feet. It isn't going to happen yet.

That site is wrong. It's taller.

As of 10/27, there were 5 catwalks on the tower, and two on the ground assembled.

Here are a couple pictures proving it.

http://www.setecx.com/pics/cp102602const/imagepages/PICT0268.html and http://www.setecx.com/pics/cp102602const/imagepages/PICT0256.html

As for the height, the 100m is just a guess. There are only a handful of people that actually know the stats of the coaster.

From the looks of the construction, there going to need a taller crane. The crane has to be able to reach far enough to place the supports on the back. It appears that with the height needed to place the next support, the cranes can't quite make it that far.

Just a thought for any engineers, if it takes Xcelerator 82 mph to reach 205ft what makes you think this will reach 400+ at only 20 mph more???

CP Loon

Maybe I'm just different, but I don't want it to be frickin' 400+ ft. tall.

Jeff, if it's taller than 330 ft., let me ask you this: Are you happy that we're getting so tall so fast?

I'm sure everyone is b/c it's huge, but if you really think about it, we're closing in on 400 ft. way too fast. Maybe it's just me, but I like to wait for something bigger and I don't imagine us getting much taller than 450 ft. Of course, crazier things have happened, but I'm kind of disappointed.

I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune on opening day, but for now, I wish it WAS only 330 ft.

Soylent Green is made of people!!! It's people!!!

Uh, no I'm quite content with a 400 foot coaster, thank you!

george wilde, who ever said it would only go 102? It's probably going to be closer to 110-120+ mph. Also, the end of the launch track is probably around 50-60 feet high, even further cutting the speed needed to propel the train.

CoasterBob, I think that 8 levels is a given, just by the physical evidence of 5 fixed to the tower, and 3 more sitting on the ground.

I think you will be among the many who will be pleasantly surprised. I personally don't know the exact figures, but if you've paid close enough attention to this forum in the last few months, you should be able to come up with some "educated guesstimates".
