Cedar Point's Next Coaster

Costs of coasters should be somewhere in the quarterly stockholder reports.

If Cedar Point gets a wooden coaster, I hope it’s GCI. Look at how much success King’s Island had and continues to have with Mystic Timbers.

We rode this during a recent trip to Canada's Wonderland. It was an awesome ride.

The other possibility is a "return to roots" campaign for the 150th. The boardwalk expansion is one clue, the loss of the stadium a second. If WT goes to CGA or even elsewhere in CP there's good space on offer for a "classic" flavoured out & back or figure 8 wooden coaster or wild mouse in that area, right on the beach. Blue Streak already offers as much, but Blue Streak isn't gonna outlive the rest of the park. Taking the family ride pressure away from that corner leaves them free to build something else there eventually.

No records broken, except lowest rider height requirement at the park (one reason to alter restraints on most of the milder coasters, half of which flatly exclude children who aren't adult sized). Obstacles include finding a new home for AWE. The entrance treatment to SV should give us a good idea on whether or not they're chasing nostalgia. An oldschool themed treatment around that area would tie in nicely.

I'm pretty sure they would go with GCI if they want a wood coaster. MT has been doing great and rumor is Carowinds might be getting one next year. I think if anything happened with that meeting with Intamin, and I'm still skeptical about that I think they would just get some kind of flat ride. But Intamin did have their first US installation in a while at Sea World SA, I haven't been following that so I don't know how that's been holding up.

I really do think the 48" height requirement for nearly all rollercoasters at the park is becoming problematic for the park and their desired target demo. The average age for a child to hit that mark is around 7-8, which doesnt sound that old and its not like there isn't other things for the under 48" park goer. But what about when that proverbial family of 4 makes this trip and stay 3-4 days, one child is 8 and 49" and can ride everything from MF to SV to Gemini, the younger child is 5 and 43" so they get all the kiddie rides and can ride with someone for Pipe Scream and Woodstock Express. After 2 days I'll bet they are tired of watching their older sibling go on something like CCMR without them.

I think a wild mouse ride, like they have at CGA or Knotts or WoF, would be the perfect addition to the park, and especially in that location. Make it something that the family can ride together, comfortably, and it will be a hit. They can make it the tallest too, as that is still probably only 75ft or so.

I'm not sure when you last went, but I went to Dollywood last summer, as well as for their Christmas event, and I didn't think it was rough at all. That ride hits all the right notes for me every time. Easily one of my favorite coasters.

So I was going through the Steel Vengeance Scoop Episode 3 and I noticed some interesting headlines on the newspaper that it opens up on.

"Prof. Delbert's Estate and Workshop Plundered!"

"Rapids Moonshine Run Foiled by Local and Federal Authorities!"

These might just be meaningless fluff, but I wouldn't be surprised if this confirms a new ride in the former Shoot the Rapids area soon, as it suggests that the Frontier Fling might be taken out.

I'm leaning....heavily...towards those simply being "Frontier Town News" headlines.

Besides, given the theming that they (appreciatively but unnecessarily) put in, I would imagine that whatever future plans they have for that real estate are designed to incorporate the Frontier Fling. There is more than enough room in that area for a very large attraction or set of smaller attractions.

Pains me to say this, but I could see Snake River Falls leaving soon. Very low ridership, not always running, and it may be getting hard to maintain the old Arrow ride. If that awesome ride ever goes, there is plenty of room to build a decently large attraction with the Snake River and Shoot the Rapids spots.

As for now, I'm going to keep enjoying Snake River until the end. Great cool off ride for the hot summer days.

A really good wooden racing coaster like Lightning Racer would be a lot of fun. Gemini sucks and doesn't race half of the time which makes it even less fun to ride.

While the tracks on Lightning Racer are similar, both are completely different ride experiences and can be ridden without racing and are still a lot of fun. GCI builds extremely fun coasters, so I wouldn't mind them building one of their coasters at CP. 4 train operation is obviously better than 3 at eating up crowds.

A racing Gemini is actually one of my favorite rides in the park. It hardly "sucks". Yeah, it is kind of "bleh" when they only run red side, but that is usually limited to the fringe season and the first hour or two of the day during the main season.

While Gemini is far from my favorite ride it is still a fun coaster and the short fast moving line is one of my favorites.

A Gravity Group might be more intense but they also have a somewhat more spotty record in terms of remaining smooth. But an attractive thing about them for Cedar Point is that they have a knack for very compact layouts (see Grona's Twister, Boardwalk Bullet, and Mine Blower,)

I go 2-3 Sundays per month, all summer long and I very rarely see them running both sides. And yes, it does suck. Anytime I have allowed anyone new to Cedar Point to talk me into riding it, I get the same reaction... They hate it. I actually love the headchopper airtime hill, but no one else does. And since those people haven't gotten to experience it racing, they don't even get to appreciate that aspect of the ride. I could care less if they keep it or tear it down, but of the 6 or 7 racing coasters I've ridden, this is, by far, the most boring one. An additional racing coaster that is more intense would be a great addition to CP's line up. Maybe even get RMC to build it with a wooden track. Lightning Rod and Goliath are pretty fantastic and Wildfire looks amazing.
