Cedar Point's Next Coaster

They aren’t crucial in any way shape or form. But Manta at SeaWorld Orlando made a believer out of me... I’d like to have a B&M Flyer closer to home. Is it a good fit for Cedar Point? Maybe not, again because of capacity (sure you can have dueling stations but that doubles the staff needed to run it). Also CP likes their “-est” coasters. I really liked that Manta didn’t need to go sky high to work (would still like to ride Tatsu @ SFMM though).

If you look back through the blog Tony Clark mentions that Cedar Point had made a purchase at IAAPA not this year but last. Also found the intamin post from this past summer kinda interesting in that Tony mentions Jason Mclure had a meeting with them he said he was not sure what about but they are remaining tight lipped. Just found it interesting. Would love to see another intamin if it can be reliable.

2019: Prof. Delbert’s Frontier Flong moves to Sports Force Park, & a log flume (similar to WWL) taking the old STR spot
2020: Dionsaurs Alive removal & B&M Flyer on Millennium Island
2021: Dark Ride (similar to plants vs. Zombies @Carowinds)
2022: Flat Rides where stadium was
2023: CP Shores Expansion
2024: tear down Cedars and expand the Iron Dragon Midway (foot bridge over the road)
2025: Wild Mouse (similar to Wild cat and a coupel of new flat rides)

I think CP Shores has had enough expansions...

Also, I think this is the last year for Dinosaurs Alive.

While Dilberts Fling may move, it probably wont happen until they get started on their Trailhead, pier thing they want to build at the end of one of the former runways.

I also think the Wild Mouse type coaster will happen sooner and where the stadium formerly was located. Camp Snoopy was 20 years ago, and Planet Snoopy was 10. Seems like time for another kiddie ride refresh, butthe actual rides for both seem to be doing well so I'd thing something that can act as a "bridge" coaster would be great investment. Maybe a couple small things in Kiddie Kingdom too. I'd say this happens in 2-3 years.

Next year, I hope that the new CEO brings everything that works at Carowinds regarding food to CP. That whole dept needs better direction.

If life has taught me anything, it is to live in the present and enjoy the moment. I have things I am excited to do between now and the end of the month that make me not ready to get to May yet. When May hits, I’ll be excited for Steel Vengeance. I can’t even imagine worrying about future years yet.

I’ll admit that I, along with many here, have thought about Steel Vengeance for a very long time. Even back to the days when RMC was making its mark and folks started discussing what the potential was for a Mean Streak makeover.
To all of us I say “Good things come to those who wait” and now that it’s so close I’m more anxious than I care to admit. I hope it’s a nice evening, and a fun time. I have no question the ride will be just everything.

But, I’m also with you, Cartwright. As I get older I remember that my elders would say “Don’t wish your life away”, and there’s so much truth to that.
I snarked way up the page here, but seriously, I don’t get these wish-list/predictions threads. I’ve been a CP regular and ultra fan for decades and one of the things I’ve always enjoyed is being surprised by what CP has up next for us. We may think we “know”, but you have to admit the joy is in the details. Like it or lump it, it’s fun to see things evolve as only they have planned.

(PS- except Steel Vengeance! OMG, I can’t WAIT 🤠)

What is this Trailhead Pier thing? Do you have a link to more information?

It's called The Landing and will be built at the Cedar Point Sports Center. Here is some information from the Sandusky Register.

It's made by Intamin. Thought the 5th comment under the video was interesting, I would have said the same thing. Stretching along the Lake Erie beach, parallel to the main preferred parking lot. Queue line/station at the old AWE stadium location. Would be kinda neat. We shall see.

We all like to joke about Cedar Point building a coaster in the parking lot, but a careful look reveals it's actually possible, should they choose to do so:

What are those large buildings next to Blue Streak? Catering? Switching out two of them for a station to a B&M flying hyper whose lift hill rises boldly over Blue Streak's southern turnaround and the road to the back of the island, before sending riders on an out & back extremely photogenic series of hills, pretzels and Immelmans which winds its way along the undulating road all the way to the toll booths and back, following the curving boundary between the main parking lot and the overflow lot used as a boat yard in winter. The grass boundary visible on Google Maps satellite view would house the footers. An instant icon. All Cedar Point blogs would surely use it as a backdrop, and it would become a known symbol of the park, visible for the entire length of the lot, like Gatekeeper's keyhole towers. White footers and sky blue track & trains in deference to Blue Streak's heritage. Four to five trains with a double side-by-side station.

Records broken: Tallest flying coaster, Fastest flying coaster, Steepest drop on a flying coaster, Highest inversion on a flying coaster, Longest flying coaster, First hyper flying coaster, Most number of inversions on a flying coaster, Most amount of coasters in a park over 200', Most amount of steel coaster track at a park, Fastest flying coaster dispatches (joking on the last one- Most expensive B&M coaster ever is probably a more accurate record. The overflow lot for materials storage means construction could proceed throughout the 2019 season, barring those days when the lot is needed for overflow, when work would stop as the lot would have to be cleared. In winter work would proceed as the main lot would now be empty).

Thinking outside the box, something highly ambitious nobody has suggested; a wooden polercoaster, by anybody willing to push the envelopes of wooden structures. I envision the ride as a vertically stacked, wood framed spaghetti bowl. Relatively small footprint, 300' height. Stresses would be reduced by the relatively small nature & reduced speed of any one element.

Surely you kid. Any park or park operator who would do any sort of envelope pushing with a wooden coaster after the disasterous attempts in the 90s and early 2000s would be ill advised. Bigger, taller, faster does not work with wood.

What's the latest on the Intamin/CF makeup rumours? A prefab would be the way to go, exchanging future maintenance costs for a much higher payout up front (minus any token discount Intamin owe CF for the STR fiasco). A wooden structure would weigh less than a steel one, helping to reduce costs of foundation construction which make a steel polercoaster impractical on the site (not to mention winds off the lake).

Taller, not faster if you forego a launch.

The thought of a wood Polar Coaster and tower is a project that is rediculously impractical.

That's the idea. 150th anniversary. Go bigger than the competition can afford to.

Following the usual inpronouncable mythical creatures model, a B&M flyer could be called Wyvern.
