Cedar Point "Most Coasters" Title Indefinitely in 2011?

Magic Mountain isn't on the coast.

Not yet anyway.

I agree the record is dumb, but that doesn't make it entirely irrelevant. Dick did tell the shareholders he intends to keep Cedar Point the park with the most roller coasters. More than likely the record would just mean we're getting kiddie coasters and keeping coasters like Mean Streak... fail. I'd love to see Mean Streak and Disaster go.

Cedar Point still has the most 200 ft. coasters, so they could easily convert the "Coaster Capital of the World" and "America's Roller Coast" into meaning "real" coasters, not an army of kiddie-coasters.

I loved X, although I'd rather Re-ride Magnum all day instead of X.

The great earthquake of 2012?

^ I think you bring up good a point there Kyle. Hopefully since Mean Streak turns 20 years of age this coming season in 2011, they do a lot of track work to smooth it out. I like Mean Streak still, it has a nice layout and beautiful structure, but they need to do something about the roughness of the ride. It makes me wonder why The Beast at Kings Island is smoother than Mean Streak? Anybody else find this odd?

What do you all mean when you say having the most coasters isn't important? Its what Cedar Point has its foundation built on. I'm sitting here reading some of these posts, when we had the most everyone was so happy and that was all that mattered, now that title suddenly isn't important since Cedar Point doesn't have it. Bottom line is without any sugar coating, looking at the surrounding area economically and demographically, and taking in the current Cedar Fair management, Cedar Point is in a state of decline. Sorry to say it.

Well said.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

There's also no Top Thrill Dragster.

I would love to try out Tatsu, however.

They've had the same management since they built Avalanche Run. That's part of the issue.

How is that a problem? Under that management we've gotten a ****load of sweet rides. Magnum XL-200, Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, and Raptor are all awesome and were built under that manage, so I fail to see the problem you speak of.

And financially, the company has gone in the tank.

15 years ago, Dick was what the park needed. He's about 7-8 years over due for retirement.

Have they really? Seems like they're making boat loads of money to me.

With a cruise ship of debt though.

Yes, but Cedar Point's performance has very little to do with Cedar Fair's financial struggles. The park itself is doing fine even though attendance is off because of the recession. I totally agree that Kinzel mismanaged the financial aspect of Cedar Fair but he does know how to operate parks and Cedar Point local park management is not responsible for Cedar Fair's debt.

Should we be worried about the park closing shop any time in the near future?

Not a chance.

Even if Cedar Fair went under, the park will still operate. Maybe not under Cedar Fair, but it will still be there.

Pete that is one of the problems, the company is a billion dollar corporation. The company owns more than Cedar Point. Where is Kinzel's attention, Cedar Point, not Dorney, not Wildwater Kingdom. When the new ride was being announced for CP, who talked to the Register, not the GM. It was the CEO of a company that is slipping.

I had no idea they were hurting financially. Hm.

Here's a topic from today's news forum... Singling out Kinzel's powers within the company.

I look at it this way...We should be somewhat excited that the title was taken away from us, because the more competition we have, the more we will be willing to compete right back. We re-claimed our title with Wicked Twister back in 2002 and will have it until 2011. 3 INTENSE world record breaking coasters in 9 years is pretty good in my eyes! Watch this short interview with Kinzel during Media Day in 2002 for Wicked Twister. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOhqZDtaCDQ He was also proud to say that "it's not the number, it's quality that counts" which was mentioned here before. Don't worry people, Cedar Point is not going to stop putting coasters in! We will get one eventually!

Which bring me to my next question...Could this be a new era of coaster wars? BUT this time it's not who builds the tallest and the fastest, but who has the most at their park?

I look forward to the "Guest Experience Wars".
