Rideman posted on CoasterBuzz that the boats don't have pumps. But, they are valved. The valves open after the boats come into the station. I'm not sure about the mechanics behind it though. The water issue could still be valid though.

You know, Wednesday I almost went up to the Lemon Chill Personage just so I could post his prognostications here. But it was either that or jump on MF while it was sporting a ten minute line. MF won.
Edit: Seriously, Adam? Kerfuffle? ;)
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
Friday afternoon I saw Sandor (from Intamin) take a lap on STR while I was on the observation deck. Sadly, I didn't think about hitting him with the water bombs until after he'd gotten off the ride.
^lol
Well, the employees at the entrance are telling everyone what I said last night. The state won't inspect it until Tuesday. So, it won't be open until at least then.
And a lot of people must be asking. Because, I have been hearing people talk about it all over the park. Surprisingly there have been no riots or lawsuits threatened. ;)

And yes Mike.....a kerfuffle. :)

It is interesting that the boats have valves that open in the station. The old Arrow flume boats had one way valves in the back of the boats that let water drain as they were going up the lift hill. Seems like a much simpler and more reliable solution than what Intamin does.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
It seems like you would lose a lot of water on the lift that way, unless you had a way to recapture it ($6 bottled lift hill water?). But it definitely seems like an elegant solution.
edit: of course, having chain dogs on boats for a chain lift ALSO seems like an elegant solution :( maybe the real boat design has drains that work well on the lift hills...
Sometimes it seems like Intamin would prefer to set up a Kuka industrial robot to scoop the excess water from the boat when it is in the station.
Apparently Dick was testing out the ride today according to another site who saw some tweets so it should be opening very soon I assume.
Pretty funny there is a pic of Dick paying to use the water cannons too.
What Pete mentions is the way the original STR boats would drain. They had several "duck" valves (that's what we called them) that were rubber and had an end in the water that looked like a duck's bill. Water could only flow from the inside of the boat out. The boats would drain on the lift hills. Often had a little water in the bottom of the boats, but nothing major (unless a valve fell off or a boat waiting for the belt in the station got hit by a wave from a boat coming down the hill.
Yeah, I got a tweet that he rode around 1:30 yesterday. A few hours later I was by there and managed to see 2 employees in the front seat of a boat. I don't know how long the had been riding. But, they were completely drenched. We hit thm with a cannon. :) They were soaked already, so it didn't matter. but, it was still fun. Water rides were running full all wekend.

So they are sucking up quarters for a ride that isn't open yet? Brilliant! Maybe Dick knows more about finances than he lets on.

There are advantages to following PointBuzz on Facebook and Twitter:
I got the tweet. If I had known it was happening, I would have been there with quarters in hand. :)

I've got my Shoot the Rapids shot glass. It's pretty nice. Hopefully I will be lucky and get to ride while I'm at the park tomorrow-Thursday.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
