Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

So does this mean no heartline roll? :)

Darm you Sandor, you couldn't just make a deadline, could you? You just watch, the height requirement will be 54" now. ;)

^I don't care if its cold, I probably would've ridden it anyway. Oh well, at least we can still have some time to check it out, both on MF and from the midway, even though I was planning on checking it out during early entry on my 1st day anyway. Oh well, you can't win them all.

I'd rather have the ride safe and ready later that dangerous and unfinished on my first ride anyway.

Curious if this delay falls on intaride or the contractor... a shame but it is a high stakes kinda business. I have felt that these last couple weeks did seem a bit of a scramble out there on the cam, especially that day that all the suits were hangin around that base of the big lift all day.
Know they will get it up and runnin' but also hope they don't feel the need to keep us in the dark until the 29th now...

They have no need to keep you in the loop, so don't expect to hear any official explanation for the delay apart from what has just been released.

Goodbye MrScott

It is kind of ridiculous that Cedar Point can't have a ride open by opening day. Not that it is that big of a deal for me, but they should create a timeline that allows for the unexpected (especially when you're dealing with Ohio winters and Intamin!). I just wonder what the issue is.

Dear Cedar Point,

If your commercial was not enough, this pushed it over the edge ... dissappointment.

That's why I go to Cedar Point -- low budget commercials!

I am sure there will be many fan videos made on day 1 so in that i do not need any explanation, just good video and pics is all I'm seeking.

You can only build enough slack into a project timeline to account for reasonable & somewhat foreseeable delays. Sometimes, stuff just happens!

It seems like with Intamin it is more like 'most times, stuff just happens'

Well, we all know that 2 years of lead in time is hardly enough to get a ride ready. </sarcasm>

5 Days before the park opens, and still no height requirement yet. Sounds like they are on the ball this year...Smacks forhead...

Has intiman ever built an attraction that has not had problems or delays in opening in time? This is a simple water flume ride, and they can't even get this right. If I were a park owner, I think I would use another company next time.

Maybe they should have used arrow/S&S.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I Knew in the back of my head Shoot The Rapids woudnt open opening day,Its just another bad thing with Intamin,I agree get another ride company,I think also they should pull all the Shoot The Rapid Promo Commercials on Television,What a Dissapointment.

at least we know that ya wont get wet on rub a dub.....

maybe we can revisit the making of chips!

I think there should be too many coasters to name that have opened on time and only a hand full that have had problems, not the complete opposite.

Let's think about this though. Millenium Force. Top Thrill Dragster. Maverick. Ranked 2nd, 10th, and 15th best steel coasters in the world.

Yes, Intamin's have their initial problems, but it's because they're one of the most innovative designers, making use of new technologies.

Sure the delay is a let down, but I'll happily wait the extra couple weeks for a possible stand-out product.

They may be ranked high in coaster polls, but that does not change the fact that the ride quality is crap.

Look at all the problems that intiman has had. Cables keep snapping, rides open late, design flaws, trains derailing, and dragster. They have to keep welding wicked twister all the time, we all know about dragster, maverick had to have an entire element removed after being built, millennium force cable snap that was not kind to the station, and now we have shoot the rapids. They don't even have a heught requirement 5 days before the park opens for gods sake. This should be something they would know when the ride is being designed.

Are the rides intiman builds fun?....Sure

Are they safe and reliable?...I have my doubts.

You know, it could be sooner than the 29th. They told us an early June opening for Maverick when it was delayed, but they had it ready for Memorial Day.

4 summers of employment in ride operations does stuff to you.

And yet millions of people find a reason to line up for them, year after year.

I couldn't agree more.

Probably because they overestimate the time by a healthy margin. My guess would be that if Intamin says it will take X days to get a ride ready, CP tells everyone it will be 2X or 3X, especially in the case of media day announcements.

Like I said, they are fun rides and I like riding them myself , but the craftsmanship of the rides is horrid. When I ride an intiman coaster, I just can't help but to have a little bit of worrie in the back of my mind.

No, I'd say the craftsmanship is fine... its the over-engineered design that sucks! ;)

I feel perfectly safe on Intamin rides, perhaps because they're absurdly over-engineered. Perhaps European universities don't teach their engineering students one of the tenets of the trade: KISS (keep it simple stupid!).
