Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

Shocked! NOT!

I knew by looking at the ride construction they wouldn't have it done in time. Why can't CP ever be more prepared for opening day?

I would just like to point out that Gemini was also delayed, and i bet that some of the people calling Intamin crap have one in there top five coasters. Also Tatsu was delayed and Chiller, all non Intamin rides. Good Day =D

What's up with the excitement over the height requirement? Some of the messages here make it sound like it will make or break Cedar Fair--and maybe even the entire country--if they don't announce it soon. Is the economy vulnerable to volatility in "ride height futures"? ;)

And how did you figure that out by watching a static webcam that only updated once a minute?

You realize there are hundreds of hours of work that won't result in any noticible difference on the webcam, right?

Because some people have kids.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I did notice that no short fat kids were shown in the new commercial...

For me at least, it's because the lack of a height requirement is perfectly indicative of CP continuing to ignore ways to drive attendance. CP considers StR a family attraction, yet they don't even know if the family can enjoy it together.

Brandon

It's not listed under family rides, but it seems pretty safe to assume that families with kids about 8 years old will most likely be able to enjoy it, like just about everything else in the park?

^ Yeah, but not a family of dwarfs.

That depends. If the height requirement is 48 inches, sure, if the requirement is 54 inches, doubtful. At least unless your 8 year olds are well above average heightwise.

To those who think they are unsafe on Intamin rides...are you kidding me?!

If these random incidents really scare you that much, you must be walking around scared all the time. There are so many other things that can harm you any given day with thousands of times better chance of it happening. Sure it seems these incidents happen more often on their rides but the chances of having this happen to you isn't really growing by much.

Lets just say for stats sake, that 1 person in 5,000,000 gets seriously injured on a ride. On an Intamin, its 3 in 5,000,000. Are you REALLY that worried about that difference?

I think the problem is that there have been LOTS of problems with intimin the past few years. Delayed openings is not the only problem.

Here are just a few....

Again, I am not gonna stop riding them, but I still have that little voice in the back of your head questioning how safe they really are. They ARE fun rides, and I look forword to riding them. I am just bringing up valid points.

Most of those Incidents have to do with maintenance.

And they all happen to be on intimin rides.

I can't remember the last time there has been a problem like this on any B&M, or GCI coaster.

Sure they happen on all types of rides, but it just seems more common with intimin.

Magnum should not have been running more than 1 train in the rain. That's not arrows fault.

You also cant forget about the cable on dragster shredding, and the fire in wicked twisters computer room.

When demon drop was built(another intimin ride), there were all kinds of problems. It was not untill cedar point stepped in and replaced most of the wires and other things that the ride ran smooth for the most part.

Mr hydes nasty fall at geauga lake had an accident as well. It dropped down the lift, slamming into the car at the bottom. I am not posative, but I think people died in that acident. This was before the ride was moved to geauga lake.

Any way.......

What a joke and embarrassment for cedar point. Can't say I'm surprised though. Really I'd rather they skip the thing, I'm not engineer or expert, but I can think of a whole lot of better things to use in that massive space they just wasted (IMO of course).

Lets see, Intamin has had some problems with many of their coasters.

Problems with Intamin roller coasters:
-Top Thrill Dragster: excessive down time for 2-3 years; opened late
-Maverick: Opened late
-Xcelerator: the cable issue
-King da Ka: all the downtime in 2009
-Storm Runner: excessive down time in 2009
-Fahrenheit: excessive downtime both 2008 and 2009

8 fatalities have taken place with Intamin since 1980. Most of them were design failures and ride flaws.

B & M problems:
Nothing

No fatalities

Arrow/S&S Problems
Hypersonic XLC- big downtime (S&S)
there were no major problems with Arrow

There were no fatalities that were caused by the design or ride flaws.

Great Coasters International/ Gravity Group

None

No fatalities
