Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

damn! :) I painstakingly rearranged all of the frames so that you could follow the apparent path of a single boat starting on the second hill, making the plunge and floating through the flume.

edit: when the frames are viewed in the order they were captured (every 30 seconds from the webcam), the action looks pretty random most of the time. As another example, trying to make it look as though the train is going by slowly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4OMeKUd_mY

but I simply don't have enough pictures of the train going by to make it very effective.

I don't know if this has been brought up but Shoot the Rapids has Magnetic gates.

At first I thought that said magnetic brakes...which didn't sound particularly good for a water ride... lol But with Intamin, anything is possible.

Looks as if she's not runnin' yet today.

Rode it yesterday, waited from about 9:45 till after 11. It was worth the wait and I have to agree with pretty much everything Adam said. The theming is something truely unsespected by Cedar Point. The last theme set was really cool and tied the whole theme together. The ride was a ton of fun and was a great cool off. I guess I was the lucky one that didn't get soaked. All I left the ride with was a wet back from ducking when someone shot a geyser off and a damp but from the wet seat. I was dry within an hour. They have bins in the station that you can put your stuff and shoes in if you don't want them wet.

And yes the station gates are not automatic, you need to push them open from the magnetic lock (kinda like the kids rides). The back row of seats is blocked off. I was thinking it was maybe because the boats look to get narrower in that row and the back is more rounded. The ride did what most Intamins do on their opening day, by spending more time closed then open. I'm sure Cedar Point will get all the kinks out and when it closed for the day in the afternoon, maintance was there working on it still at 9p.m.

It ran for about 20 minutes around 11am today, with all of the water effects turned off.

I rode it yesterday too and I just want to say that's a really cool water ride. It's different from the other two Cedar Point has because it has 2 lift hills. I'd have to say out of both those two lift hills you get soaked the most coming down the second hill. The First hill has a nice drop for a water ride. I'd have to say that first hill was my favorite part because you don't know what kind of drop your going to get out of it. I loved everything about Shoot the Rapids though and like a few of you said, I hope they get the kinks out of it so other people can enjoy this. I'd have to say too after riding it 4 times yesterday, my shoes are still drying out, but it's well worth it!! GREAT JOB CEDAR POINT!!

Looks like the ride was cycling empty with all effects on for awhile, but now it has stopped and all the effects have been turned off. Typical first weekend jitters. I'm sure the kinks will be worked out soon.

You'll just have to ride it to find out. ;)

-Adam G- The OG Dragster nut

they are probably leaving the last row empty for the same reason they want heavier people in the front row

So now that the ride is open, is anyone but me disappointed that the ride looks like one where we are going to get soaked? i said this when the ride was annoucned and ill say it again now. I HATE walking around the park soaked. it is my least favorite thing to do and it ruins my day. The other thing is....you probly wont catch me riding this thing in the beginning or end of the season. 60 degree weather soaked? not for me.

Hopefully when I get there on Thursday it works for more than 1/2 the day. I am curious to see what this great theming thing is that you guys are talking about.

cpfanatic if you don't want to be completely soaked you can always use the bins in the station to put your shirt, shoes and socks in. I saw many people doing it. But hey my ride on it didn't get me soaked at all. :)

Sigh.......I miss white water landing.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'm sorry for your loss.

It seems to be running now by looking at the webcam. I hope it starts to work more often than 1/2 a day.

Or you could pay $5 for the haystack drier!

And the ladies can't exactly take their shirts off to enjoy the ride =P
