Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

Am I not seeing correctly (quite possible, bad eyes), or is the ride cycling with the last row empty in each boat?

It looks like it...

The last row in each boat has a sign on the back of the seat indicating it is not available. Not sure why.

It either looks stuck at 1:46 or they have perfect 30 second intervals. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/webcams/webcam2.cfm?chip=3

Yes, I rode Shoot the Rapids with the Red Cross this morning! It's a fun not overly thrilling ride that everyone enjoyed. Front row gets the brunt of the splashes but geysers and waterfalls make sure everyone gets soaked. There's a nice misty tunnel at the start that will fog up your glasses, and a whole bunch of cute signs (used cow for sale) along the way.

The ride opening was delayed for the state inspection, so after breakfast at the Red Garter we were sent over to Millennium Force just before nine, so I got front row on the second train out. Whee! After a second ride in the very back I saw the line was already over a half hour so went back to the Red Garter for an update scheduled at 945. Went over to STR at 1015 and the huge crowd there cheered when we went past them. About about a 15 wait we ended up getting a double ride! Red Cross had three boats (I was in row 2 of the first) and the last pair of seats was not filled. Afterward some of us got out our quarters for the geysers but the ride went down for a while, so I took off.

A very fun morning!

Like always, the new ride is having problems. Again the line is cleared out (tho pry line at the beginning of the line) and boats are now testing empty

Are you sure about that? As I look there is the crew and 2 boats going by or was this pure blind speculation on your part?

I guess I'll go ahead and give my 2 cents here.

I was out on the first non-charity public boat in front row and I was blown away. The ride is almost nonstop fun. The mist in the tunnel is VERY thick yet it's a neat touch. Coming out from the tunnel is a tricky bit because if you get timed right, once you start to pass the rock work and a boat is coming down the second drop, the splash from the boat will get you DRENCHED.
I was also taken away by the themeing. It's such a difference looking at it from the viewing platform and riding and being surrounded by it. And aside from the 1st drop, which is pretty barren in terms of themeing (not a big deal really), you really get sucked into the rides theme. The old posters, landscaping, and the music really make the experience. And the last bit of themeing before the 2nd hill looks like something from Disney or Universal.....it's that cool.

I really hope they keep the maintenance on these aspects cause they are what make the ride truly unique....unlike anything at the park. I highly recommend anyone who's there this summer to get on it. It's a barrel full of fun. :)

Thanks for the 2 cents Adam, it sounds like a great ride. I'm going to try to head in there tonight and hopefully it's open.

Anybody know if they will have anything for night rides? Cool lighting package or anything?

Let's Get Weird.

So, after much debate since last fall, what is the wetness level?

It appears my prediction was correct that it's a soaker in the same realm as SRF & WWC, and it'll get your shoes soaked?

Though it looks fun and I'll be sure to ride it once, I found this disappointing. I was most excited about night rides (my favorite time on WWL), but if it's a soaking ride, I'll have to pass.

Also, for when it's 40 degrees in the fall, after actuallly experiencing the ride now, can everything wet be turned off? Hearing that the first drop soaks you off the bat has me thinking no...

Wow! Sounds awesome! I was just thinking of how the ride will only get better in a few years with the landscaping grown in, provided the theming is maintained. Thanks for the report.

According to the Facebook postings, it shut down at 3 for the day due to mechanical problems.

This ride has just opened, so let's give it a couple weeks before jumping to conclusions about its reliability. However, with that being said, what is there to go wrong with such a simple ride?

This whole StR situation is disappointing, as it's harming Intamin's future, and they're still my favorite manufacturer. Let's hope the ride continues without a hitch the rest of the season.

Why don't they have people on the back seats?

Let's hope it's not some kind of weight balance design flaw such that the boat sinks too deeply into the trough...

I made a short timelapse video, but not exactly chronilogical... hopefully it is somewhat obvious when you see it:

I'll do something bigger soon, too.
