Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

Don't count your chickens before their hatched. We've only semi-confirmed 1 boat so far. I think there are 10 boats total. It's possible that as soon as one boat was ready they brought it over to test it and make sure everything was working before finishing the rest and having them delivered. Similar to what Knoebels has been doing with the Flying Turns. Trying to get one train to work before ordering 2 more.

Has anyone that's at the park seen the new boat testing today? It'd obviously be great news.

Yea, I wonder the same if the boat is testing yet...

Anyone???

One month in the books for 2010, and still no StR... :(

I was at the park on Sunday, and can report that not only was the flume drained, so was the reservoir.

Things were quiet there when I stopped by.

If Shoot the Rapids is like most flumes, when the pumps are shut down the water will drain out of the flume and into the reservoir.

We rode the paddle boat on Sunday, and there were huge fire hose type hoses coming out of STR and into the river. I naturally assumed thats how the water got drained, but now that I think about it I didn't look close enough to see if there were pumps attached.

Those hoses weren't draining the ride. StR will drain directly into the sewer system.

The water for the ride is chlorinated and can't just be dumped into the lagoon.

They drained the ride into the lagoon twice so far (edit: twice that is, while I was watching on the webcam... obviously they have drained it more times than that). Chlorinated water doesn't stay chlorinated unless you continue to treat the water. It doesn't take much longer than a day of sunlight exposure to "dechlorinate" a swimming pool.... i think...

Last edited by jam,

I can confirm that. Chlorine in solution is pretty unstable, especially in sunlight. In fact, its reactivity is why it works so well as a sanitizer.

Well, learn something new everyday. Although I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that the ride is drained via sewerage rather than straight into the lagoon.

^^^I would hate to see cp's water bill.

Not sure why they would drain the ride as it can't be cheap to refill the ride with water.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Maybe the water bill goes directly to Intamin.

On CP's Facebook page they said they will have an update within the next few days...

non-potable water can be a lot cheaper, if they have it available...

Yeah, an update telling us STR is probably not going to run untill the 4th of July weekend. And, we would be lucky if they said that much.

I can't imagine where Cedar Point could possibly find non-potable water. It just doesn't make any sense. Now if there were a pond or a lagoon or a river or something nearby, they could just pump it through a filter and right into the reservoir. But for Cedar Point, I'm not sure what they could do..........

Just looking at the ride yesterday I felt like the ride is still no where near opening. I didn't see a boat, the ride was completely void of water, and not a worker on site. I would assume, like before, even when we do start to see boats on site and testing we'll still be a week or two out.

:(

That sucks, with all this great hot weather we are having right now.

Sorry. I had to. At least all the landscaping will be nice and grown in next year when it's hopefully up and running!

-Eric

Who says it won't be up and running this year?
