Cedar Point 2012

Flyers seem to have limited appeal, and many seem to have insufficient capacity for a park like CP. Though given the lack of emphasis on operations recently, maybe the low capacity wouldn't be a factor.

And what's the point of a floorless coaster? Aside from a unique train (which isn't very compelling), it offers nothing interesting. I can't imagine CF would be so RCT-minded as to think installing one would be a good idea.

Brandon

^^Idk about that. Those floorless coasters on RCT seem to bring in about $3.50 from the guests wanting a ride on the floorless. CP could bring in some big bucks;)

...but Cedar Point is on the Pay-One-Price structure... ;)

You're pricing your coasters too low, SSL! If you're not charging $6+ for a coaster, you're doing it wrong. After all, peeps gotta ride! :)

I love Manta too, I would love it if they really took their time with the flying coaster and had a great theme. I would also accept a floorless, or a great woodie. I'll be happy with any of those, or something new we don't even know about.

I'd personally be pretty pleased (that's a lot of p's) with any fun, new attraction that they could give us...more specifically, a fun, new roller coaster that breaks some records.

Then you get those snobby guests who wont want to pay that much.

I think flyers are very fun. But B&M Flyers look a bit to much like their inverted roller coasters from the midway. They also take up a pretty good chunk of space; the stations on those are huge. The same thing goes for a floorless coaster, there really is not anything jaw dropping about them accept the train style.

I feel that a dive machine would be a pretty unique ride which are not that common in the US yet (accept for the Busch Parks). The capacity is awesome on those rides, it is very eye appealing, and they are kind of thrilling. That's just my opinion though...

What's wrong with a flyer?? I rode one in sea world and I loved it.

I suspect a lot of the hate for fliers comes from people who have only ridden the Vekoma models and/or the Superman flyers at SF parks, which are indeed awful rides. Flyers like Tatsu and Manta totally change the game, and I would love to see more aggressive flyers like those two built.

Oh, and personally the I find the appeal of dive machines limited and have never understood what enthusiasts see in. Sheikra was pretty darn boring in my book. Besides, CP already has 2 coasters that drop at a 90 degree angle, and 2 that drop close to 90 degrees, so it's not like the straight down thing would be that unique.

I would like to see a B&M Wing Rider. Like 160 feet, 80 degree angle drop, 4 or 5 inversions. Or a B&M dive machine. But, a lot longer, and higher.

I personally like a Vekoma Flying Dutchman over any other type of flying coaster.

You know... I had an almost unhealthy addiction to RCT2 and about a year ago I got over it. Now it's all I can think about. Thanks ;-)

Also, does any else feel like we're just talking in circles?

Been on both of them and I still don't care for flyers:) I honestly think flyers are the most uncomfortable coasters ever built, be it a B&M or Vekoma.

They just aren't the kind of rides that you want to ride over and over. They remind me of stand-ups, in that respect. You ride them a couple of times, say you did, and don't bother after that.

Wow.. I haven't posted here in YEARS, but I got to reading this and I had to chime in.

I leave for Basic training in a week and I was able to visit the park a few weeks ago (thank GOD!). I hope that roller coasters will still thrill me after I start my airborne training (jumping out of planes ;) )..... back on topic...

I noticed someone mentioned how other parks have "zones" and the point seems to be missing this, and I wholeheartedly agree.

When I was a kid I remember Cedar Point had a much different feel to it than it does now. A lot of that has to do with the fact that I have grown up... and a lot of it has to do with the ambiance the park once had that it has lost.

Cedar point did seem to have a "THEME" if I remember correctly... it was Time. The vibes coming from the park were the funky 70's feel from the Corkscrew/Gemini area. The cruisin 60's vibe of the main Midway (with the Diner, dodgems, and colors etc). Of course there is and was the frontier trail and the back of the park that is/was similarly themed. Then sporadically around the park there was a modern... spacey vibe that came from Magnum XL-200, Disaster Transport, and later... the Millennium Force.

Not to mention the cool Vibes that Iron Dragon , Paddle-wheel Excursions, and the Train gave as they traveled through the trees and made it seem as if you were off in another land, not an amusement park.

TTD came in and (IMHO) ruined it by taking about a ton of trees and filling in much of the internal river. From there on it seems that CP made a lot of bad decisions (excluding Maverick of course).

I think what the park needs more than anything, is to regain its identity. they need to put money into the LANDSCAPE, and make it a part of the rides that we enjoy. EXPAND the river, mae it travel through some parts of the park.... you can always build over it or in it (i.e. Dominator at GL when it was there). Revitalize the original themes of the areas discussed above, it doesn't take THAT much money to plant some trees, spray some paint, and make some new signage/scenery.

Lastly... while doing the above^... stick to the penchant for creating record breaking rides.... not cookie cutter attractions at your other parks... make every park unique. Give customers a reason to want to travel and visit all of your parks instead of trying to give everyone the same experience no matter where they live. ADVERTISE Cedar Point at Knotts and Worlds of fun, Dorney etc. and vice versa, and highlight the unique aspects of each park.

STOP the commercialization.... there is no reason for there to be a freaking Panda Express on frontier trail.
Bring back staples like Macaronis... dont submit to national chain powerhouses.

and last but not least....

Give me GIANT Launched B&M floorless that travels the freaking park... and make sure it breaks.... and holds the height and speed records.. :) (I know it sounds childish, but Dominator was an insanely good coaster... and the thought of combining it with likes of MF... it gives me chills)

If they do this... and make sure that customer service doesn't fall to the wayside like it has been. they will shoot up the charts and be second to only Disney World in the U.S.

Go through with the Pier Idea already, its a neccesary addition.

^^ Your floorless idea sounds awesome but I don't think it will ever happen :(

^^ Lots of good ideas!

I think the general consensus in this community is that CP needs to work on the overall experience... like fixing lights, planting trees and maintaining the existing theming elements.

I'm thinking they should spend a year to just improve the experience rather than add a big new ride... however I would like a dark ride =P

I agree. I don't want to sound like a jerk (because I love CP) but they've already had their chance. They haven't built anything MAJOR since Maverick ( or MAYBE Planet Snoopy.) I totally agree with rehabbing the park, but they've had too many chances already.

But on the contrary, I am very pleased with the new paint coatings, fountains, Pink's, Starlight Experience, etc. but I'm hoping next year CP doesn't do NOTHING BUT revamping.

Well Dick did say that at this time next year John would have a surprise for us...I'd be pretty darn surprised if they said they are gonna put better lights on the Millennium, and many people would also be pretty happy (:
