Dinosaurs alive would be great if it were put where Thunder canyon is. There is already a plentiful amount of trees and rocks that would help theme the dinosaur area.
I dont think it will replace Thunder Canyon....It will go where the lockers are at.
playstation gamer tag. connorwatmont. add me
If they put a Dinosaurs Alive at CP I'm going to be ticked off, although I guess that sort of counts as a family attraction.
Dinosaurs Alive (yawn).......use this money to switch all the lighting on the rides to LED's...or to pay someone to weed the gutters on hotel breakers!
When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835
I think if they do plan to wait til next year for a coaster they should just do upgrades this year.
1. Upgrade all rooms at breakers with fresh decor, fix up the main lobby and front entry, flat screens, and so on like they did sand castle a few years ago. Long over due for sure.
2. Fix all the lights on the rides with LEDs,also long over due.
I'm sure there's much more stuff that needs work but that's all I can think of at the top of my head.
As for the new coaster Id like to see either a good woodie like most would like to see,or a cool steel one. I would rather see a nice big steel coaster, 2-3 loops or something, maybe the biggest loop so some type of record breaker. Just my thoughts.
Kevinj, you're absolutely right. Technically, areas at CP are defined, just not visually, as you HAVE quite clearly articulated. Once in a while, you will hear different things like Wildcat Midway, or Gemini Midway, or Wicked Twister Midway, and of course, Frontier Trail. The problem is just that they're really ambiguous for the most part.
I think there was a brief discussion about this some time ago, specifically in reference to the Gemini Midway. As I recall, someone was wondering what happened to the themed trash can labels in that area.
Of course, your inquiry begs far more questions than that, but if we're going so far as to question the labels on trash cans, you know something's wrong. Forgive me for not knowing where that post/thread is.
Sidebar: The new theming strategy seems to be: "Let's just add another Three Point Challenge!"
Also, what's the point of having a Wildcat Midway AND and Iron Dragon Midway?
I for one want to see a new woodie...No pun intended...
Prefer a gci w/ millennium flier trains or gravity group w/ timberliners...I would prefer a gci more though...Everytime I see a pov of a gci, especially something like lightning racer or renegade...I doubt we'd see another racer in the park but even the layout being the same would be incredible
But I doubt we will see a woodie...I think Mean streak put the final nail in the coffin there...Especially considering it's already reverted back to square one...The refurb on the trains and retracking is barely even noticeable now...Which is very disappointing considering how nice it was at the start of the year
I think everyone would agree with you about needing a new woodie, Devarious. Also sad to hear that Mean Streak is already losing its early season improvements.
Slehman, thanks for understanding the post; that is precisely what I am talking about.
I have never heard of a Wildcat midway or an Iron Dragon midway, but that is my point. These places don't exist at Cedar Point but they are referred to from time to time as if they do; but they could, and I think it would be wonderful if they did.
I am certainly not talking about turning Cedar Point into a collection of themed areas, but at the very least color, signage, lamps, fencing, plants, etc...those little touches could draw areas together and also bring some, in my opinion, much needed cohesion to Cedar Point.
Promoter of fog.
Hey lets not go there haha
I think the theming for midways would be nice for the park too because it would be easy to point out where things were. Giving instructions would be much easier versus "go here, go there, follow this, ect"
But yeah...also forgot to admit. If we weren't to get a new woodie...I would love to see a flying coaster...I actually will say Vekoma dutchmans are impressive..but you really don't see vekomas now-a-days and plus most people will disagree with Vekoma building good coasters...If we were to get one, I want a vekoma dutchman or a B&M flier like Air out in Alton Towers
I also think a flying coaster would be great for Cedar Point. It's one of the few things the park doesn't have, and would be very popular. I would not want a Vekoma, and I doubt they will, due to the reliability seen in Firehawk and Nighthawk. B&M has a much better reliability, and have much more force than vekoma's. I believe Vekoma's also have a longer loading time period than it's B&M rivals.
Kevinj, a very good point and post. However, it doesn't look like CP has been very interested in keeping separate areas unique in the past 15 years. The pattern has mostly been to simply "clean up" the areas where new attractions are installed. Not much of this has been "themed" additions though.
In 2002 and 2005, the games midway was renovated with the additions of Wicked Twister and MaXair. The Oceana midway was pretty much put to rest and now has nothing to do with water at all.
The front of the park has also gotten some love with the additions of Hurricane Hannahs, Ocean Motion, and Donut Time. But it has no real theme, although it looks clean and new.
In 2003, CP converted the quiet midway from Corkscrew to Magnum into the Top Thrill Dragster midway. It really focuses on that ride extensively. I guess you could consider that "themed".
Gemini midway has gotten no love because all the new attractions go elsewhere. It starts at Witch's Wheel and ends at the railroad tracks.
So in summary...Frontier Trail is pretty much all that's left and I wouldn't expect any other themed areas to emerge any time soon. Although, I really would like that boardwalk and wooden twister. ;)

Except, of course, for the fact that it's right next to a whole great big bunch of the stuff...

I really feel like the blue streak area and frontier trail need an update. I'm not saying throw a massive ride in frontier trail, but it is very boring to walk through there. There just isn't really anything to say "WOW" about in there during the day. (Totally during starlight) but its just so bland during the day.
As for the blue streak area, I'm not sure what I would want done over there. I think it does need more attention. I'm not sure what would be a good fit there though. It would be interesting to see what type of roller coaster they could fit in there, but a new coaster would probably call for the removal of the turnpike cars and old fashion cars and i wouldn't want to see that.
A question for those of you who want a new wooden roller coaster on the beach...
Where exactly do you think they would put it? I was think about this when i was at CP on the 4th. Very surprisingly it was not all that crowded and my girlfriend and I had about an hour to kill before the fireworks started. We decided to take a walk on the beach. We went out to the beach by windseeker. Well as we were walking across the beach, i notices that there was not another entrance to the park until Soak City. So if a woodie were to go on the beach, it seems like it would have to go close to windseekrr due to the fact that it is the only way over there. But if it goes there, they would have to redo the entrance again and it would get in the way of the pArasail and jet ski rentals.
I think eventually we will see a Wooden Coaster on the beach...just not one anyone here would like. I could totally see CP expanding Planet Snoopy with a kids wooden roller coaster with them taking out the small concession area and the new 3 point challenge. It gives another kiddie roller coaster and can build up that massive midway that really gets very little attention. In any case, I dont see the fry stand and the 3 point challenge being there for long...
SSL488, any beach coaster would most likely replace Disaster Transport. It sits on a decent chunk of land that extends to the employee parking lot.
