Cedar Point 2012

I don't see how it is any different than the requirement for automatic gates on loading platforms. Although, I think CP implemented those over a period before it was required by law.

This may seem like a stupid question, but will the slides at Soak City also have to be handicap accessible?

I don't really think that a handicap person would really be able to go on a slide.

Still say I'm pretty sure we're getting an inverted woodie hahaha

I look at it this way I've seen rumors here, heard stuff there, ect...Some guest even asked me the other day what ride was going to replace corkscrew next year...That was pretty funny

Down the line when the time comes we'll see more and they'll announce it so just be patient...We only have another few months & we'll hear the details

...if there's even anything to announce. God forbid Cedar Point doesn't install a new ride every year. Superman will have to circle the Earth so we can correct the great error in judgement and save humanity.

There are parks that have no gates in thier coaster stations.

Yeah, it seems the laws might still be a bit blurry. However, CP always seems to err on the side of safety. Here are some old threads I found on the subject.

I should also point out that reading those old threads really reminded me of all the frustration with operations in the early 2000's. I had totally forgotten about the "stay behind the yellow line" days. Also, so many good PointBuzzers (then GTTPers) have vanished from posting. Too bad, there was so much good conversation in those days.

</nostalgia>

Back on topic, last year at this time we basically knew where the new attraction was going due to markings, Dick Kinzel had dropped some hints, and an announcement date had just been set. Funny how things change year to year, eh?

I doubt we'll have teasers like we had last year. The reason I say that is because Rebecca is new to the online world with handling the On-Point blog, Twitter, and Facebook. Who knows if she'll be up to doing all that. I also know Screamscape is reporting that Cedar Point will have to wait until 2013 for the next new coaster. I say though there is still a chance for a new roller coaster for 2012.

Alright, who sent in the B&M 2013, Space Spiral, Disaster Transport area rumor to screamscape....lol

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

I would love this rumor to be true, I would also love a good woodie too though. That area if they did it nice though would be great for any of those possibilities though.

There's also a chance that every coaster at CP will simply fall to the ground before August. Just sayin'.

Handicapped doesn't have to mean wheelchair... example, someone who is an amputee and can't exactly get up 100 steps with one leg. They are able to ride the slides, just unable to get to the top unless they hop up or someone carries them.

Also for those with back/knee pain, stairs can be ROUGH, especially a ton of wet ones.

Lets just say I have personal experience... used to love waterparks, now all I can do it the rivers and stuff because of all the stupid stairs!! =(

However I also don't expect them to ever add elevators to the soak city slides, but I'd be beyond thrilled if they did to just a couple of them! Waterslides are loads of fun and I miss them!

Exactly what I thought too :)

So the FT markings and SC are the only ones we have so far?

Not to be a Debby Downer, but I am going to go out on a limb and "guess" that 2012 will not bring anything new in the form of a ride of any kind. The few dots and marks in FT do not look like anything of any significance at all, and the entire corporation is undergoing a reasonably-sized transition, not to mention the economy finally starting to exhale a bit more.

Here's what I want for 2012: All the blacktop removed from any midway of any kind. Why is this still here in 2011?

Which finally brings me to what I think Cedar Point could benefit from. Boundaries. Let me tell you what I mean.

I do not want to start comparing CP to other parks, much less Disney or parks of much less size (Dollywood, etc.), but many successful parks find themselves divided into different "sections", if you will, that are brought together aesthetically through architecture, design, signage, lighting, etc. For example, King's Island just repaved their Coney Mall section with brick pavers, etc...it's clearly divided off. Dollywood has a "State Fair" type section cornered off.

Of course, at Cedar Point, we have the Frontier Trail, but have you ever wondered why? I'm serious. Cedar Point is a hodge-podge collection of rides tossed together like a salad bowl, with virtually no rhyme or reason to their placement. Then, all the sudden, there is this Relatively (capital "r" intentional) nicely themed area amidst the organized chaos.

There used to be something called a "Gemini Midway"...does that still exist? And if so, where does it start and where does it begin? What is the area in the front of the park called? Why was there never a MF midway? Is the games area called something?

My point is, and I am not sure how well I am articulating it, I think Cedar Point could use some major beautification in the form of defining some boundaries of different areas of the park. Does this make sense, or am I too caffeinated?

The Frontier Trail markings may be around the area that they will put the rumored Dinosaurs Alive! enterance or the exit of it. I bet the markings around Soak City are for a much needed expansion and do over which will include a water rollercoaster and will make soak city like kings island it will be in a package in the park. Which would make SFMM and CP tied with the most coasters in the world!

It's incredibly unlikely that CP would include Soak City with ride park admission, unless they raised park admission by $32.

Soak City still packs people in, so there's no reason to expect any major additions until people stop lining up to hand over their money.

Brandon

I still think something will happen in the Blue Streak area come 2012.
