Cedar Point 2012

The boats that are being used for the tours haven't been used at the park since 1986 when it was still called Western Cruise.

I know everyone is talking about costs, and how Cedar Point will be "ruined," if they make another roller coaster, but come on! They can't just never make another roller coaster ever again! There is a lot of space in the park to build one believe it or not, and there are many types that they still haven't made! (Flying, GCI Woodie, etc.)They can also create a new type of roller coaster, like they did with Millennium Force, and TTD! In my opinion, the reason they are losing guests is because they haven't built a monster attraction since 2000! Also, they lost the "Roller Coaster Capital of the World," title to Magic Mountain :( They may not build a roller coaster in 2012, but it has to be soon!

Sit upright, hold on tight, and enjoy your ride!

I would really love to see Cedar Point to get a Dinosaurs Alive attraction on Millenium Island and I really think it could happen.Personaly, I think Paddlewheel Excursions is safe because they moved the shooting scene to a different direction and added more scenes to it when Shoot the Rapids was built and also they built the ride over the lagoons so PE could go under it!!!! What would be cool is if they put up that Skyride in the Boneyard and have it over the lagoons and drop off at the island to the rumored Dinosaurs Alive!

I highly doubt this is Paddlewheels last year. I have not heard any kind of rumors about this and im there every day. We are having one of our best seasons in years. Lance is probably assuming that if CP gets the dinosaurs alive attraction on millennium island then they will have to permanently put the bridge in and therefore close paddlewheel.

One of my fav. things at CP is the Pirate themed haunted attraction they have for Halloweekends. If they put a Dinosaur's Alive on M. Island, it would totally take away from one of the best parts of my October visits. Does anyone have any legit figures as far as how attendance is for the Dinosaur show at King's Island? When I was there in May, it was pretty dead. I'd wonder if it was something that CP really needs in it's lineup, particularly if it's only a mild draw.

^ That's funny that you just came back from there because I was there June 21st. I rode everything except the new Green Lattern because the park for some dumb reason closes at 8pm. What did you think of Kingda Ka? I thought it was bumpy at the base of going up the tower and coming back before the big hill. Looking at it from a distance, it doesn't look like it's that much taller than Top Thrill Dragster.

Your right about El Toro. That is one roller coaster I would love to see at Cedar Point! Maybe Cedar Point will cut into the parking lot some day to put something like that in. I'm still hopeful for a floorless to one day to come to Cedar Point whether it's 2012 or further into the future.

I'll keep this short, as I know this isn't a forum about Kinda Ka, but I thought it was immensely dissapointing. It was so bumpy that after my second ride, my lower back ached for about an hour. There's no denying that the theming and 'atmosphere' of the ride is great, but I can definitely see why it is ranked so far below TTD on the Golden Ticket Awards list. The over the shoulder restraints take away a lot as well. That being said, I thought the park was OUSTANDING. An amazing mix of coasters. I felt it offered a better variety than CP does, and I'm a hardcore CP fanboy.

I strongly believe that CP needs to add some sort of modern wooden coaster to round out their collection. Holiday World (and The Voyage) is seven hours away, and probably doesn't attract the same visitor as CP, but I can understand that with Michegan's Adventure having Shivering Timbers, and King's Island having The Beast, they may not want to draw attendance away from those two parks (as they are pretty much their signature rides). That being said, my friends and I are cutting our CP trip in August short by a day so we can head to Waldameer to ride Ravine Flyer 2, which we probably wouldn't feel was neccessary if CP had a woodie besides Blue Streak worth riding. I don't think it's going to be this year though. Perhaps only coaster freaks feel the same (and, I don't have children or visit the park with anyone in the 'family' demographic).

I think taking out Paddlewheel would be a huge mistake. Especially is they are taking it out for the dinosaur exhibit which may be temporary. Paddlewheel is a fun ride and great for the whole family and its a Cedar Point tradition. Maybe update some of the scenes but don't take out the whole attraction.

Why does every attraction have to be wheelchair accessible next year?

Typically when new regulations go into effect, they aren't applied retroactively. They usually only apply to new construction or major renovations. I'm not particularly interesting in researching the regulations. However, if anyone is looking for something to read, this appears to be the latest regulations that will go into effect on March 15th, 2012.

$15000 sounds a little high to me. That would mean between 2000-3000 people are going through it a day.

Just to back up you guys comments here. If Cedar Point doesn't follow suit with the new regulations, they could get fined big time which that's the last thing Cedar Point needs. They already have problems with Q.

That is very interesting that all of the attractions will have to be handicap accessible. I guess that means DT, Gemini, Iron Dragon, and Corkscrew will all either have ramps, elevators, or step climbers next year.

Things will need special access walkways & whatnot are because the park has to be ADA compliant next year I believe is what I remember hearing....

As for paddlewheel...It's not going anywhere lol...When I walk by that boathouse is usually packed full of people. Plus it's a good ride for the kids and whatnot, I even enjoy the ride though...But yeah it's not going anywhere, if anything I would expect improvements to be made to it here soon, especially with the new CEO. Being from Disney I actually expect the Cedar Fair theming to be touched up...or so I hope...

As for removing Disaster Transport...Now I'll just basically go to say that it's not ganna go anywhere either. First off we all look at thrills & whatnot....CP does have families that come in...they have to gear things towards the younger audience and kids. If that wasn't the case we would have a coaster in camp snoopy's area...a huge flat ride in kiddy kingdom, and whatnot...Plus CP is loosing the coaster war...Getting rid of one and replacing one means they're going to fall further behind...I just don't see something like that happening anytime soon...If they had the title by a few like before and could afford to do it maybe, and it wasn't a good ride (it's a popular ride you have to admit that) then maybe...But it's not going anywhere

My vote goes that CP gets an inverted woodie with 12 inversions that goes in a tunnel under the parking lot and out into put in bay via a lim launch tunnel at 200mph ^_^

Are you guys sure that the ADA compliance applies to existing structures? That would mean Sky Ride would need access as well as the coaster you mentioned, plus the old parts of Breakers would need to be retrofitted with elevators.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

^I would be very surprised if the access thing applied retroactively to existing structures, but I could see it being something CF decided to voluntarily comply with. Hopefully they'd go with the "wheel-avators" and save everyone else from having to walk down what would end up being really long exit ramps.

I don't know what their attendance is, but my guess would be that those numbers are roughly about 10% of their attendance on a moderate to busy day, so I can totally see that.

Who is making that absurd claim?

In my opinion, the reason they are losing guests is because they haven't built a monster attraction since 2000!

Wicked Twister, Top Thrill Dragster and Maverick were all built after 2000, and cost an average of $21,000,000 (adjusted for inflation, of course). I don't see how spending over $20 million isn't a major deal. Not to mention the not-exactly-inexpensive additions of Maxair, Skyhawk, Shoot the Rapids and the rather extensive HalloWeekends additions they've made.

Furthermore, attendance has been slipping despite CP adding "monster attractions".

I've heard similar numbers actually... sighting 1,500 people on the average day, but as many as 4,500 on a busy one. Even if each guest only did the walk through and not the combo with the movie, that's $22,500. It surprises me enormously that it's doing as well as it is.

It makes no sense whatsoever that Cedar Point would suddenly be required to retrofit every single attraction. New builds, I can understand. Take it into account, but every attraction? That seems absurd to me.
