Another monorail disadvantage, from a business standpoint, would be guests staying at CP resorts could take it into back into the main land for other restraunts and entertainment venues.

I bet that's where he gets most of his sources from. I read one that I had a kick out of. He mentioned that Kings Island is going to announce later this year that they will start working on Son of Beast to give it one last shot. I doubt that will happen with all the lawsuits that ride has received in the past. I won't believe anything until the park confirms it.
^Well they eventually have to do something with it. It can't sit there forever. Lance says that because he has a 50 50 shot of being right. They have to fix it or get rid of it.
Let's Get Weird.
If Kings Island tore down SOB would Mean Streak be the tallest wooden coaster or is there a taller one that i dont know about? If it is Cedar Fair might just tear it down so Cedar Point could have the current record.

Mean streak is the 6th tallest right now.

At CoasterMania, Mr. Kinzel made it sound like there might be some hope for SOB.
Wait, why are we talking about KI in a CP 2012 thread!?! ;)
Now that it is July, I would be surprised if some sort of 2012 "leads" aren't spotted by someone. I don't have facts to base that on, but historically it seems like mid-summer is when somebody sees something that ends up being related to the new attraction.
Now, somebody pass me a bottle of Crystal Rock sparkling water....

Walt recorded the audio from Dick's speech and his follow up R&A.
You can listen to that to hear exactly what he said. Skip ahead to 27:45. But in a nutshell, they are still trying to decide what to do. The ride is a large piece of capital. Just tearing it down without considering all of the options wouldn't be the financially responsible thing to do. They have had some quotes on totally reworking the ride. The initial estimates was over $20M. Dick said, "We could put a really nice steel coaster in for $20M." That being said, they haven't ruled anything out. If they were to go the route of Texas Giant, they would want to wait a few years until it's prooven itself. He said, Whatever they decide to do, it has to be the right decision and the last decision. He also said that Paramount would probably admit to $35-40M in the ride, and Cedar Fair has put another $8M into it.
And before someone calls out dick on the statement about no new wood coasters being over 80-100 feet. I think what he meant was Wood coasters with wood structure, since that's what SOB is and the topic was about.

This is going back to the beginning of the thread. I just read almost all of the 34 pages (no life, apparently), but if I repeat something, forgive me.
Just got back from a visit at Six Flags Great Adventure (before the Baboon got loose, thankfully). As much as I would like a new coaster (El Toro-like woodie would be amazing, it's the best coaster I have ever been on), a Dark Ride could be great. There is an AMAZING little attraction at SFGA called "Houdini's Great Escape" which combines elements of a show and a dark ride. Something like this would be fantastic for families at the park. It's tame enough for children, but definitely thrilled this thrill seeker.
And for those who think that a coaster wedged into the space by Raptor and Blue Streak isn't plausible, check out SFGA. It feels like one corner of the park has 6 coasters all wedged together. Superman: Ultimate Flight, the new Green Lantern coaster, and Kingda Ka all feel like they are touching.
^ That's funny that you just came back from there because I was there June 21st. I rode everything except the new Green Lattern because the park for some dumb reason closes at 8pm. What did you think of Kingda Ka? I thought it was bumpy at the base of going up the tower and coming back before the big hill. Looking at it from a distance, it doesn't look like it's that much taller than Top Thrill Dragster.
Your right about El Toro. That is one roller coaster I would love to see at Cedar Point! Maybe Cedar Point will cut into the parking lot some day to put something like that in. I'm still hopeful for a floorless to one day to come to Cedar Point whether it's 2012 or further into the future.
I think I dark ride similar to Ghostwood Estate at Kennywood would be a good fit for the park. Or even better a non-spooky dark ride themed to Snoopy. Hershey's extreme cup challenge is a pretty good example.
Have riders board cars similar to Snoopy's red doghouse and go through different scenes with targets and cool animation.
Shawn I felt the same thing on Kingda Ka. I was there the 21st too, and my second ride the launch was really bumpy which caused the restraint to smash down into my legs.

I know a couple of people who have done just that. Works like a charm. It's pretty funny actually.

I wonder if someone took your advice...Screamscape's latest (an update today, 7/5) are rumors of 2011 being Paddlewheel Excursions last season.

Unfortunately, I have seen/heard that rumor elsewhere before it was posted on Screamscape today....

I really hope Paddlewheel Excursions is here for a long time. It's corny, but a great family ride even if it's not the wilderness like it used to be. I probably only ride it once a trip, but I'd rank it as one of my favorites in the park. It will be sorely missed if it's gone.
A few years ago, I sent a rumor that the OM stadium was being torn down and that a "pirate themed topple tower" was being installed. I just made it up off the top of my head.
2 days later, it said that "we have received word from a fairly reliable source...(insert rumor here)"
I personally don't dislike the ScreamScape website; it is what it is, and I won free Dollywood tickets from them once. But anyone who takes anything posted there to heart is being extremely naive. It's like an amusement-park tabloid.

They already have shown that they can build a bridge over the lagoon with STR....no need to put the permanant bridge in place to eliminate PWE.
Yeah, lets get rid of another nice, long, relaxing ride that the "ENTIRE" family can ride! Keep the dinosaurs at Kings Island, like previously stated from someone else, we already have our version of dinosaurs alive in the HQ by scrambler!
When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835
Although I wouldn't be fan, you could make a case that by using some of the boats for Lake Eerie tours over by Famous Dave's, they are paving the way to close Paddlewheel. You could still have lame jokes, just no theming along the way I suppose.
The dinosaur thing sounds like a dumb idea to me. My vote is still for a Gravity Group dueler to replace DT.
