Bon Aire section and other exterior changes to Hotel Breakers

That would be a chimney. Fireplace in the lobby area?

A modern gas fireplace just requires a vent line, not a massive old fashioned chimney. I also wondered about the structure but haven't been able to think of what it could be.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

But a wood burning fireplace would require a chimney, the structure sure looks like such a chimney to me. I did just notice though that it doesn't appear to be in the lobby area, but perhaps in the new section between the Lobby and Breakers East.

They built out or expanded between the old twins section and Breakers East. It could be the exhaust vent for a restaurant.

That is a possibility, however if you look on the other side of the new entryway you will see the commercial exhaust hoods installed for Tomo and Perkins. You can also see numerous HVAC units on either side of these roof areas. That being said they could have decided to spend the extra money and make one particular exhaust vent look more decorative - but why when there are so many other mechanical systems located in the same areas that are not decorative?

I watched the Breakers videos and looked at the pictures again and they do not show anything in this area, nor what that new section between the Lobby and Breakers East houses. The only thing that I do know for certain is that I would really like CP to open, I think I am spending too much time looking at webcams and trying to figure out exactly what new structures are for...

I too looked and didn't see it in the renderings. They have added eaves to the top of the buildings for aesthetics and possibly to hide mechanicals. A fence is also being added to close off the backstage area towards the old Bonaire section.

I had a passing thought of a service elevator, but then I see the top of the structure is tapered like a chimney. It has me confounded.

I guess we'll have to wait until the park opens to find out.

Hotel offices are in that area of the building. It could be a fireplace for the hotel manager's office.

It's the chimney for the new Cedar Point/Breakers crematorium. It's listed in the 2015 "Gateway Guide" under "things to see".

Maybe the new side entrance to the Breakers East extension has something to do with this 'chimney'. Maybe that area will be utilized as something more grand such as the spa entrance to Wilson's lodge at Oglebay in West Virginia. If that's the case, then I am all for this addition.

Lots of vivid imaginations here on PointBuzz.

Crematorium, that's good, perhaps it ties into the other architectural things they are adding...

Um, it's not "OCD", (whatever that means relative to the question at hand), it's just there's no reason to quote a post so close to your own.

We're pretty smart. We can follow along. Plus you can save Jeff money by simply responding or commenting on the post above yours without quoting.

It's OCD. Like feeling the need to respond to the response about being OCD and actually try to leverage "saving money" for Jeff. I suspect the additional page views don't hurt the ad sales or revenue creation at all.

Jeff said in a post a while back, that he pays for database space, by the bit. So every letter you post costs him money. And he said on Coaster Buzz this week that online ad revenue doesn't pay well anymore.

All that aside -- there's just no reason to quote the post directly above yours. What's the point of doing so?

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Are they paving over where Bon-Air used to be? It's hard to tell with the wind shaking the camera today. But it looks like it on the still image.

Yes, they paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Is that asphalt?

Yes, I saw an asphalt spreader and a steam roller. I'm wondering why there is such a strange shape in the upper left corner of the lot. I'm thinking it's the way that new lot is connecting to the old lot. While they're at it, they should grind down the old lot and repave it so that the whole lot has all new blacktop. That could be in the plans over the next 2 weeks.

It looks like those little tower things that were showed in the concept art that go on the top corners of the main entry way are sitting to the side ready to be installed.
