Bon Aire section and other exterior changes to Hotel Breakers

Yes, they did mention that elevators and air conditioning will be part of the lobby and rotunda renovation. I think it was mentioned in the poster they set up in the lobby of the hotel.

I think for now the Bon Aire land will be more parking, they also mentioned that there will be additional parking, so I'm thinking that is where it will go.

"Along with a new exterior, the MODERNIZED hotel will have a new entrance portal, classic interior finishes, newly-furnished and remodeled rooms with LCD TV’s, new furniture, bedding and décor, and many other amenities and offerings."

This. Dear, God, please don't let cedar point turn the main hotel entrance into anything "modern" looking. and what do they mean by classic interior? I hope they keep the lobby a historic feel.....

Did you watch the rendering video? That should give you a good idea of what it might look like.

I just noticed that the rendering of the water play area shows the Surf Lounge patio at the very top, conveniently connected to the water play area to make it easy to get a drink.

Yes, but I'll still be waiting for service from 2013.

That caused an audible LOL. :)

Our service during our last trip was unbelievably poor. I mean, I understand that it was mid-August, when there's high turnover due to college kids heading away, but the incompetence was staggering.

That place has a horrible track record. I don't ever remember it being good, though admittedly I stopped going to any Friday's five years ago as they went to microwaving everything.

The last time I was at Cedar Point, I didn't go to Friday's because I thought, "ooh, Friday's! Cool!"

I went because I thought, "Ah. I want a beer and Friday's is right here."

I'm really excited by the Breakers renovations.

Yeah I was going to say, service has been great at Friday's every time I've been at the bar the last couple years. That can be a nice little trick if you want a drink or food fairly fast.

Has anyone seen any mention of elevators for the Rotunda section of the hotel? If they are going to put rooms up on the fourth and/or fifth floors of the Rotunda then I wonder if they are going to put elevators as well.

Judging by the rendering it appears that the Rotunda elevators will be located in the hallway between the lobby and the Rotunda. In the animation that hallway is essentially blank but in the aerial view you can see what appear to be the elevator shafts on the exterior of the building. I assume they'll take a chunk out of the Ship's Store and Island Accents spaces. Half of Ship's Store is already blocked off.

I go to the Friday's at Breakers frequently and always sit at the bar. Usually just for drinks but sometimes for food. The bartenders are typically excellent there, but I have no idea what people experience sitting at the tables. But, on the CP peninsula, if you want something late night, Friday's is the only game in town for now. I highly recommend sitting at the bar instead of the dining room.

I've copied an interesting comment I found on a food site about microwaves and reheating food, it's not just TGIFriday's, it's everywhere in the casual dining, mid-tier restaurant scene:

There is an enormous section of the food industry that makes and sells what are effectively frozen, pre-made entrée quality restaurant dinners for chain and some non-chain restaurants. It's a multi-billion dollar business. They typically require a bit more prep than heat and eat, but are quality and portion controlled and vastly simpler to prepare than meals from scratch.

These are not like the grocery store frozen food aisle meals. If prepared properly you would be hard pressed in some cases to tell the difference between scratch cooking and these meals. The main issue is that experienced cooks are not required to put these together so cheaper labor can be hired. It's higher quality modular food.

Obviously this is not true "fine dining", but it's a huge chunk of what you are getting in many (but not all) chain and some non-chain mid-tier restaurants.

The last time I ate at Fridays I thought the servings where small. Course everyone ordered cheap meals. I am excited about the hotel renovations having stayed there for about 10 years straight up until about 2011. Got a popup camper with heat and airconditioning and started staying at Camper Village. Now that the circles gone we took a break from going up until now. Going to get PP for next year and stay at breakers the weekend of Oct. 22 and take advantage of the free admition.

Now if they'd only fill in the marina and rebuild a campgrounds I'd be happy. LOL. Really going to enjoy staying at the hotel again. Just sucks you can't cook your own food. Or I could take a grill with me and pull it out onto the beach.

I think Cedar Point makes good dime off of the Marina. It's always super full in the summer time and I'll bet Famous Daves makes just as much from marina customers as from parkgoers.

This is the one advantage that Kings Island definitely has over Cedar Point, in the sense of being surrounded by already-owned wooded land perfect for camping or cabins or what have you.

Not true about KI. We haven't been since they tore out the campground.

KI is ten times the park it was around the time they sold off the camp ground. And Great Wolf Lodge is fantastic.

Pardon my ignorance. But where exactly is the Bon Aire building in relation to the beach or rotunda or main ( backside ) car entrance. I'm familiar generally with the hotel but never stayed there. Just walked they grounds.

And let me add that I think the changes coming this winter to the Hotel Breakers look fantastic.

Last edited by Norris Todd,

When we were at the park yesterday, we hit up Perkins in the Breakers for brunch. As we walked into the building via the Bon Air entrance, I was disappointed to see the old, very tall cottonwoods (?) had been chopped down. At least one was right next to the building, but I assume all were removed due to the upcoming demolition of that wing. "Oh, no--there go more trees!"

At first, I was very skeptical about any of the Breakers renovation. I have fond memories of several stays in the rotunda section. While I'm disappointed to see the most affordable (but admittedly least desirable) rooms on the peninsula going, I guess I'm slowing becoming more amenable to the changes that are coming--if the renderings are any indication, I'm getting excited about how nice the entire area (including the boardwalk) will look.

Now, if only I could afford to keep staying on Point... :-/

Even though there have been a few recent changes on the peninsula in which I've actually been disappointed, I am for the most part delighted in the new energy and vision that the current management team seem to be bringing to the place. Overall, it's exciting and I believe you're really starting to feel a sense of pride and "positive vibes."

^^ The Bon Air section of the hotel is located in between the tower section and the small parking area by the Challenge Park mini-golf course. If you have ever entered breakers from the North door (closest to the resort gate) you actually entered into the Bon Air wing before you hit the tower section where Fridays, tower elevators etc... are located.

If I did this right, Bon Air should be centered on this map.
