Bon Aire section and other exterior changes to Hotel Breakers

Wonder when they will tear out Bon Air... Probably within the coming days I would think.

The reaction on the park's Facebook page is more mind-numbing than I would expect ... even for Facebook. The words "historic" and "iconic" are being thrown around quite liberally. Having memories attached to something does not mean it is historic or iconic.

Maybe they don't realize the entrance isn't original to the hotel. It wasn't added until 1950. I imagine that some people complained back then, that it took away from the charm to allow automobiles to just drive up to the entrance, or that it changed the original architecture. That's OK. Wait 30 years and people will complain when the 2015 version is demolished and updated.

How many of the complainers on Facebook think the entire historic property is being demolished? It wouldn't surprise me if some did think that.. Not exactly the most educated group, generally speaking.

After further review ... the entrance that was demolished dates back to 1959, not 1950.

That's a good point. I have seen some confusion over that.

Keep in mind, not everyone is up-to-date on the park's projects. Some do not know of the renovations, and thus will jump to the conclusion that demolition means complete demolition.

If I remember correctly, the supposedly haunted "Mary" room is in the west wing on the second floor...somewhere near the point where the demolition stopped. I wonder if it's gone.

Everyone has to complain about everything. First they complain that the hotel was in major need of an overhaul and then when the overhaul comes they complain history is being taken away. What a joke!

Off topic, but I can't help but think about the Polynesian right now at WDW, which isn't nearly as old, but is getting a lot of down-to-the-studs renovation right now. Half of the hotel is inaccessible, and they don't have an off-season.

The demolition pics weren't necessary. Of course it's going to upset people.

Interesting video on the webcam today, you can watch the construction workers remove to roof on the twin section.

With so many renovations happening, it seems like quite a task. The live web cams give a general idea of progress-in regard to exterior work. Is there(or will there be) night crews working on inside projects? Also, will all the rooms be remodeled? I thought some were just given an 'up-grade' within the past few years(and not impressed if that was the case).

Every room and everything else in the hotel will be renovated from what I've heard.

As it well should be if for no reason other than to ensure a consistent quality of guest experience. Besides, why would they spend $60 million and still leave some rooms feeling dated?

I'm still interested in what some of the rooms will look like. I mean we have seen the suite pics and the regular room pics... I wonder if there will still be snoopy suites, presidential suites, etc.
