blacking out on millenium force?

Fortunately ive never blacked out on MF, even riding the front seat with arms up and totally relaxed. Perhaps a slight rush to the head and thats about it. Some rides i tighten up so i am sure that helps.

I've never blacked out, but once in a while will "grey out" about 3/4 through the overbank turn after the 1st hill. This is all about g-forces and a lack of blood supplying oxygen to the brain as you "fly" back up the overbank turn from hill 1. Your heart can't keep pace with the fact that your head went back up leaving the blood to be "pushed" back to lower parts of your body. Jet fighters go through this routinely and go to great measures to deal with it working out and strengthening muscles to compensate and tighten so as to block the flow from exiting the brain. On days when it is very hot, this happens a lot to me on MF (probably have a lower blood pressure due to dehydration). Cool days and well hydrated and I'm fine. This is probably a normal reaction and everyone I know that has ever been on MF has had some degree of blackout and on one instance total pass out. CP pushed the physiological envelope on this one! ENJOY!!!

That 12 year old boy blacked out on Disney's "Rock n Rollercoaster". But he blacked out forever. If I EVER black out on a ride, I'll never ride that ride again, untill after seeing a Dr about the issue and making as sure a I can that there is no "pre existing condition".

Honorable Mayor Scott,

The incident with that boy is gut wrenching and tragic. I have young kids too and can't imagine what that family went through. Didn't he have an unkown heart condition that was the underlying cause. Yes, if he knew about it he should never have been on it. I agree, if you have any conditions that would cause you harm or death, you shouldn't ride. However, every person I know that has been on MF has had some degree of blackout and these are relatively young and fit people with no health problems, me too. 5 g's, is it? Don't jet fighters experience 6-7 on average? I don't really know, but 5 g's seems like a lot. I still think that CP/Intamin pushed the envelope with this one.

Is there a doctor in the house? Really, any doctors out there that are coaster enthusiasts that could make a general comment? My doctor doesn't like coasters much. I'm really curious and if Mayor Scott is correct, I'm going back to see him for a check up.

Hey, by the way Mayor Scott, I really enjoyed staying in your town Lighthouse Point opening weekend. Best place to stay at CP IMHO. Next year I might be able to have my morning coffee and watch Maverick warm up (if it is going to be named Maverick).

ENJOY!!

Lighthouse Point IS the best way to do CP!

And, NO I HAVE NEVER BLACKED/GRAYED OUT ON MF!

Scared poopless, yes. Blacked/Grayed out, no.

My blood pressure runs a little on the low side and I have never had anything like this happen.I have to agree with the mayor on this one, something like this ever does happen I would really be worried.

I can't remember which, but I do one of the two while riding MF in the turn. It lasts from about 3/4 through the turn until I just about hit the 1st tunnel. Wierd, but it would never keep me away from riding it.

"That's one big MF!"
I <33 MF and El Toro!

I believe that's the most common place for it. In the rare chance it does affect me anymore, that's where it happens.

I think that if designed differently to lessen the g's in the overbank, there would not be so many reports from so many healthy people with so much to worry about. :) Millie is awesome and I like her more than any other at CP and beyond and will continue to ride just as the fighter pilots still fly. Well I love Maggie too and just as much and....I still believe the physiological envelope has been pushed, probably unintentional. OOOPS!

I completely agree. If anything internally doesn't feel right after riding a coaster (other than my stomach after eating some of the park's great food) I'd get a check up of some sort.

Roller Coasters are extremely dangerous things, if and only if you have some sort of health condition.

I never had a problem with MF until around half way through last season. I don't really black out or gray out per say, my vision just gets very spotty. As with most people, about half way through the over bank to the pullout is where it occurs. Sometimes it's worse than others, but it is purely momentarily and as soon as my vision is back to normal (right before the first tunnel) I'm screaming my head off and thinking about what to do for my picture. Of course, I'm in no where near as good a shape as I used to be when I ran cross and track, so I'm sure that has something to do with it as well.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

They say you shouldn't ride if you have high blood pressure, but what if you're on medication and blood pressure is back to normal? Last year I believe I had high blood pressure without meds and rode all the time. This year I'm on meds and I hope I'm OK riding.

I have never blacked out on MF, but I have had a lot of trouble breathing going down the first hill on Magnum. This was the first time I rode it though and it was 30 degrees outside. So everytime I get to the top of a hill on a rollercoaster, I take a huge deep breath.

Actually the grey/blacking out on MF is most likely due to low blood pressure. I tend to have very low blood pressure and gray out everytime. one of the few instances where having high blood pressure can be advantageous

That's weird. When my blood pressure was checked while on meds it was around 130 over 98 which isn't very low is it?

If I ride it very first thing in the morning then I may black out

130/98 is pretty high actually. I'm overweight and not in shape at all and mine was 130/85 last time I was at the Dr's office.

A tip, since this topic got brought back up. I don't know the scientific reasoning behind it, but you'll be more subject to it if you're sitting in the middle of the train, rather than towards the front or the back.

The times it happened to me was early morning riding on the last seat. I took a drink of water and got right back on and was OK. go figure.
