Big Dipper to CP?

If this did happen, where would it happen at in the park?

Maybe the beach or back behind Millenium Force in Frontier Town. I think the beach would be nice

First of all, yes I think Blue Streak is a better coaster. The Big Dipper completely underwhelmed me both in the front and the rear of that coaster. Blue Streak has some amazing pops of air in row 2.

Second, if it is going to go in, my guess is going to be right about where Demon Drop is and have it extend into the parking lot. Nice place right by the front gate should help frame the entrance.

That said, I for one will be both shocked and disapointed if this is the new 09 ride. As I said before, I dont care for the BD, and would much prefer a new GCI or Gravity Group coaster over BD any day. Heck, I would prefer the (refurbished) Villian.

CP does need a wooden coaster... a GCI one.

Something like El Toro (just for you Zach)

On the other hand, Jeff has not closed the thread on Coasterbuzz or this one which does make we pause for a moment. Of course, he could just be really bored today.

Or, you know, doin' stuff. Besides, I figured between the two threads I've made an extra dollar today. Five more and I can buy a burrito!

I don't quite get it. If I were Cedar Point and I were picking a Geauga Lake coaster to install at the Mothership, I'd pick the Villain. I'll bet it would fit between Wicked Twister and the Breakers and would arch right over the resort gate.

Personally, I think Blue Streak is better than Big Dipper, and Villain is better than either one (but pushed to make a choice, I think Screechin' Eagle beats all three...). Can I see it happening? Maybe. I can even think of a couple of places to put it. Although I am not sure I could imagine the end of the main midway without the Corkscrew, so maybe that idea isn't so good... :) Hmmm...For years, Geauga Lake's entry was under the Big Dipper...you suppose they could put it in over the front gate?

Villain sucked that was the worst ride in that park, Mean Streak and Blue Streak is better then Villain, hell a ride on the Causeway is better then the Villain - no pain! The best part of that ride was when the Ride Host asked welcome back riders. I still don't know which is worse that or X-Hawk! as for Dipper you can't go wrong with a classic out and back. I might as well join the fun and say case closed!

Clearly you never rode the Villain *before* Six Flags let it fall apart. Villain is an excellent ride profile (except for the trick track, which was removed) but the track was a mess, and the Gerstlauer trains are incompatible with human bodies.

And another thing: The only redeeming quality of those NAD-replica scratch-built trains on the Big Dipper is that they had no seat dividers and single position lap bars. That doesn't change the fact that the seats were way too close together and quite frankly the cars ran like crap. They look okay, but they have no knee room, the lap bar comes down way too close to the seat back and when the ride is bouncing, it's not real pleasant to be crammed in behind that bar.

Big Dipper is a decent ride, but it isn't the best John Miller coaster in Ohio, and it isn't the best wood coaster at Geauga Lake.

^^...Are you serious..Villian was probably the best ride at GL maybe besides Dominator.Villian was my clear favorite though it was a good ride...a nice wooden rollercoaster. :)

^^ Unless you are taller then 6' 3" I had a litle knee room, my knees hurt getting off villain then the Dipper. And as for the cars running like crap I rode the red train 06 and yes rougher then the blue but 07 the red train ran beautifuly and I never had the a bad ride with the blue. Ok maybe villain would not have been bad but the g tarins killed and it beatup the track. Mean streak used to be my favorite ride but after last seson it got to rough to ride

My Pointbuzz post for those that don't venture over there regularly:

My son has a book that I have read to him every night since he was 2. "Spilt Milk". Well, that is the situation with some of these folks who think they have a duty to somehow save Geauga Lake. It is spilt milk. It's over. Time to move on.

That said, I can appreciate the efforts to save some of the historical significance on the place. Heck, it was my home park for most of my youth and I worked there for five years.

I personally believe the Dipper is worth saving. If people are going to make the argument that the Breakers lobby/rotunda should be saved then there is no reason not to advocate saving this roller coaster.

I was thinking about this quite a bit last night. A Jeff-created rumor or not...I like the idea of a 'Boardwalk' area to replace the aquatic stadium and some of those other features that are blocking the lake front. And, why not anchor that area with the Dipper? A classic, restored wood coaster that has emotional ties to tens of thousands of people in northern Ohio. A ride that would be seen as "family friendly" in a park that has gone extreme for the past decade. I'd take it a step futher...bring the rocket ships along too and really turn it into a blast from the past section of the park.

I could see taking my kids and grandkids to Cedar Point and loading up in the Dipper while explaining to them that it was the first roller coaster I ever rode. There would cetainly be an emotional connection and a nostalgia factor there. And, isn't it the goal of buisness to connect with their customers emotionally so that they want to come back?

I know that move wouldn't appeal to a generation who has been introduced to MF, TTD and some other extreme rides. But, I suspect it would be a popular move to some of us old people...who have a disposable income.

My post on CoasterBuzz in response to the nonsense "release" by some dork stirring up this crap...

That's not a press release, and it was irresponsible and wrong todescribe it as such. It's a crybaby rant with zero knowledge about whatCedar Fair is doing, and asinine comments about the "distaste" orwhatever only reinforces the fact that it's all crap. What a cluelessass.

Perhapsthey're having a meeting in California because they move it around fromyear to year. The large institutional investors don't "live" in Ohio orCalifornia. What difference does it make?

Who is this guy?

Theworst part is that it paints this picture of an adversarial situationbetween Cedar Fair, with nefarious intent, and some sad half-dozenpreservationist types with no life who have exactly zero impact orinfluence on Cedar Fair. Maybe you've heard... the business wasn'tprofitable so they cut their losses. There's nothing deeper than that.No distaste for the park, no intent to destroy, no Kinzel sittingbehind a huge desk with thunder and lightning flashing out of thewindow.

-1 to the "journalists" who actually went calling around looking for a story on this.

Sobefore everyone gets in my grill about how I hate freedom (Geauga Lake)and I'm letting the terrorists (Cedar Fair) win, know that I'd love tosee the ride get moved even though I don't care for it. But enough ofthe nonsense already. There is no conspiracy, only hurt feelings.

I'm with Dave, by the way, about the Villain being a sweet ride prior to its neglect on the part of Six Flags. I've never cared for the Big Dipper, even when I was a kid (though at least back then I could fit without my knees being pressed into the pads).

I will say that I have changed my opinion a bit on how Cedar Fair handled the Geauga Lake situation. I'm not entirely convinced they had every good intention of making it work.

Well, I'm not sure if you're saying that I'm the "dork stirring up this crap..." or if you meant the sender of the release, but here is my CB response.

Let's see... it was a statement which was written as a formal release to the media... sent in the same form to at least 6 media outlets I am aware of: WKYC-TV, WOIO-TV, WEWS-TV, WJW-TV, the Ohio News Network, and WBNS-TV.\

Further, it was a statement made my a senior official (treasurer) for a large organization (ACE). It also was regarding, at least in part, specific development plans being put together by both ACE and the author's business.

Sure, it not in a traditional "Who, What, When, Where, Why" format, but that does not mean it isn't a press release.

And, as much as you don't want to believe it, there is a story here, either way.

1) Is Cedar Fair moving a historic amusement ride from the former Geauga Lake property, possibly saving it from the scrap heap?

2) Why would a senior official form a national group risk his credibility with both the media and coaster community by making these statements?

Yeah, the next time I get a release containing information which would be huge, not only in the coaster community, but in the state of Ohio, I'll keep it to myself.

And as I said on CoasterBuzz, sending it to the media doesn't make it a press release. It's not even an opinion piece. It's not news, it's crap stirring. You'd fail your journalism class if you submitted that as a press release.

Having just read the release on CB, that is not a "press release", its a rant. Is there any verification to the source? Has it been confirmed to come from Munch? I can sign someone else's name and fax a rant to a bunch of news stations too, it doesn't make it any more legit.

And especially with no press release coming from Cedar Point, this sounds like it is just trouble making.

It's about as official as my blog, or your blog, or anyone else's blog.

Why, when I read it, do I picture Mr. Munch with foil on his head, trying to block communication from the government's spy satellites?
