I think the odds of this happening are about as good as the odds of me growing hair back on my bald head. That is to say...I never say never...but it don't look good.
On the other hand, Jeff has not closed the thread on Coasterbuzz or this one which does make we pause for a moment. Of course, he could just be really bored today.

Why on earth would anyone think it's unfeasable for this to happen?! They already own it and they would get miles of favorable press if they could make it happen. I posted my thoughts as to where it could likely go (along with a coaster museum) on Coasterbuzz so I won't go into it here.
No matter what, it's absolutely possible, and if they're smart, likely.

They have 17 coasters right now, one which includes Blue Streak, which is pretty smiliar to Big Dipper. CP doesn't want an one junk ride that again, they don't need. Just because it's historial and available since GL is now defunct does not mean they'll just throw coasters everywhere.
If they are smart, they'd keep it where it is, and operate it in the summer, just as a one ride concessionaire type.

I wouldn't call the Big Dipper a junk ride. I think it is a pretty good wooden coaster and I have it on my top 10 woodies. And, I do think there are some ancillary benefits they would have to saving that coaster in what is probably one of their most important markets...whom they have done a pretty good job of alienating ever since they took over GL to be honest.

I dont know why they would send it to CP, there are other parks in the chain that could benefit from this ride, like Worlds of Fun, or Knotts which could use a nice small out and back. As has been said before CP has Blue Streak, it doesnt need another wooden out and back.
Because Cedar Point can always use a new ride. Because they have already nearby in their possession a fabulous ride that will not compete with Blue Streak, but add oomph to the arsenal. Because Cedar Point will thrill (and save face with) Clevelanders with the re-installation of a beloved ride that was feared lost. Because they will be able to add an historic note to that arsenal. Because Missourans or Californians won't get it, but Ohioans will. And maybe because they want the museum and they've got the pockets to make it happen. (Richard Munch allegedly kicked this whole thing off today, and he is the ACE historian)
I'm just sayin'... It's win/win/win/win if Cedar Point does this.

^^Most Cleveland people do not care about GL closing! How many times does this need to be repeated. They stopped going to the park years ago! Most wont even realize its the BD unless CP puts up queue markers telling them that it is.
Oh yes they do- I'm in Ohio too, and I hear it over and over. Like Joni said, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got till it's gone?". Kinda like Cleveland Stadium. Everyone complained about it, but they were sure sore when it went away. Ok, so maybe they didn't flock to GL when the getting was good, but everyone rode it at one time or another and they all have a memory of it. This a marketing department's dream come true. If this does come to pass, everyone will know it's the Big Dipper because Cedar Point will make sure of it. And we can be certain they'll be using tools other than queue markers.

CP Mac you and I are not normal when it comes to amusement parks, nor are most of our friends. The fact that only one representative seemed to care about the loss of the BD should be your big tee off. Politicians have two rules: listen to what the money says, and when it doesnt say anything, listen to the voters. Only one politician complained, there was no mass protest, and only a few stories in a local paper. Its a park no one went to anymore that shut down, end of story.
You don't tear down a ride and throw it back up an hour later just because it will satisfy a very small market of CP's. That's the dumbest thing I have heard. You already have Blue Streak, as I keep saying. Other parks could take Big Dipper, but not CP.

Wow, put yourself on a pedastal much?
What the heck do you think Planet Snoopy is? Brand New? If anything, it totally contradicts everything you've been saying.

That kids area was overdue for a much newer look/feel, and that's what they got. That was a smart, logical move. There's no need for Big Dipper, though, for the last dang time.

Touchdown- I know, but I speak of normal people who know that I'm a park enthusiast, and when they approached me on the subject of the abrupt closing of the park, it seemed that they all had a story about Geauga Lake, whether it was from last year or 40 years ago. And most expressed dismay that these things happen, but oh well. And yes, besides me and you there aren't many still crying over it.
But all that, and especially politics and constituancy issues aside, I just have to hope (which springs eternal, I know) that someone at Cedar Point finally sat up and said "I know what we should do..."
I still have yet to read on either forum a convincing arguement as to why it's a bad idea.

How about this one, name two parks that have relocated a wooden coaster in the modern era (post Disneyland opening.)
I can name one, but thats it. There has to be a reason for that, especially when a lot of great wooden coasters have been let to rot in closed parks.
Knoebels: Phoenix.
Cypress Gardens: Starliner.
Be careful what you ask for.
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
Knoebels, Lakemont, LeSourdesville, Magic Springs, Six Flags America, Cypress Gardens. They all had great reasons for doing it and great results on account of it. C'mon, man.

Maybe KW will buy the Dipper and put it at Idlewild.
It would be a perfect fit within the trees, and is a step up from the two coasters they have. If the price is right........
I'll be Coasting for Kids on June 9th

Very interesting... I'm just afraid, however, that CP would pull another Blue Streak and get new trains. A lot of what made Big Dipper fun were the old trains that allowed a lot of freedom and movement. I just couldn't see Big Dipper retaining it's ACE Coaster Classic status if it were moved to CP.

I happan to think Big Dipper is better than Blue Streak and Mean Streak. The air time was amazing and you have more room for air time with the single possition lap bars than the individual.
3 things you can't talk about with people you don't know is religion, politics, and roller coasters!
