Any word or thought on a ride for 2006???

Bridges have different technology and may be a little "extreme" in terms of a rollercoaster. Plus the lake really isn't theres to build in.

"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"

Building a coaster out into the water wouldn't be a bad idea, except for one thing: Cedar Point doesn't own Lake Erie. I don't know what the process for building into the lake is, but I'm sure they'd have to get some kind of government grant for it.

Yeah, its not gonna happen. Also, environmentalists would probably throw a fit.

plus, it would suck if a boat crashed into the coaster.

And why would anyone expect a detailed answer as to why a roller coaster isn't working? When your cable goes out, do you call the cable company and demand to know the technical reasons why there is snow on your television?

I can understand your logic, but when my cable TV goes out it doesn't impale the viewers with shards of metal.

When I am doing something potentially hazardous for the pure sake of personal entertainment, it's a very reasurring feeling when the entertainment provider is completely open and honest. Yes, I understand that my life is much more endangered while driving on the highway to Cedar Point...however, driving is a part of normal day-to-day life. Strapping myself into a seat that goes 120 mph and 400 feet in the air isn't a normal day-to-day event for me...regardless of the safety measures that are in effect.

The actual "reasons" for problems really don't concern me, but the fact that that the company is being completely open about the issues makes me feel more confident in the ride, more comfortable in the park, and a much happier guest overall. Ultimately, as a happy guest, I will probably spend more money during my trip.

When an accident happens that is severe enough for the state of Ohio to investigate, you will get more details than you know what to do with. Not only does the state of Ohio complete yearly inspections (and I think they do spot checks during the season), but Cedar Point has a very rigorous inspection program for every ride that occurs on a daily basis. They are open about that (it's been in the blog and part of news stories and documentaries).

But 99.99% of the time, when a ride goes down for "mechanical reasons," it has nothing to do with safety. If a transformer problem means that Wicked Twister isn't operating, I don't see how anyone could demand more of an explanation other than, "it's down for mechanical reasons."

Anyway in other news it looks like SFGA is opening a new Intamin woodie for 06. Does this mean that are new ride will be anounced soon? More to the point, Will we see a hyper woodie at CP anytime soon?

Walt, Thats should be how it is, but it isn't. A lot of people, like my dad, need to know EXACTLY what the problem is.

WT90, I doubt they will be announcing our new ride until after Halloween.

Just to let everyone know if you haven't figured it out yet, the piece under the tarp is the top of an S&S Power Screamin Swing. I dont know if anyone has pointed that out yet.

ok i may have missed something, but besides the seat belt problems and the snapped lift cable on MF what other problems are there?

Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.

Outside of a few ethusiast who know what's going on I seem to find the GP being spooked about TTD's constant downtime. When they see a ride closed they right away think someone got hurt or killed.

Reality is that there is no way CP can tell everyone what happened and it is just easier to say "down for mechanical reasons" and it also takes away the chance of false information. *** Edited 9/30/2005 3:42:51 AM UTC by Gomez***

WT90, I personally hope they dont because I've heard nothing but pain and horror stories from SoB.

I have noticed that SF typically goes ahead and announces their rides, then CP/CF always does later in the year. I dont know how planned this is, but it seems that when you leave it so long that no one else is really talking, you get the 'lasting' publicity. Seems to have been working well for CP/CF thus far.

^Yeah, I can vouch for that. SOB is the only rollercoaster I have said "never again" after riding. Beforehand I was excited to go on the tallest, fastest woodie anywhere, but my enthusiasm curbed after waiting 45 minutes for what would've otherwise been a walk-on because the train before us had stuck restraints (great Premier train). When I finally rode it, I found that it was SO rough I couldn't enjoy it. And I can enjoy Mean Streak! The lap bar is so big, I thought it was going to crush my ribs everytime we experienced positive G's. My wife had a headache for the rest of the day from that ride. She says she's gonna burn it down (plenty of firewood there)! Perhaps with some better trains it could be enjoyable, but I really think there is a limit for a wooden coaster's height/speed.

Exactly, this is close to what I posted earlier. Eventhough I've occasionally browsed through this site since 2001, I hardly consider myself to be a coaster enthusiast. I could care less about knowing the minute by minute status of a ride, but as a non-expert, yearly guest, it makes me second guess wanting to get on a ride that is regularly open/closed for "mechanical issues". It's just human nature to want to know why something that was seemingly safe minutes earlier has now been deemed "unsafe" or unable to operate. Having someone tell you "mechanical issues" doesn't quite satisfy the curiosity. I don't have any suggestions for what could be said differently, I was just trying to explain my personal gut feelings about the subject. Sometimes logic and gut feelings don't go hand in hand and it takes a little extra to put the gut feelings to rest (from a non-enthusiast point of view).

Blue Streaker said:I seriously doubt CedarFair would put parts in the Soak City parking lot just to throw us off, but just throwing in another possibility.

No. Not even a possibility. The top span in the Soak City lot is white. VF's site shows a RED top span. It is NOT CP trying to play tricks with us.

Jason Hammond's avatar

Spence, it is still possibe that there is something else between the tarp and the structure or something on the structure itself perhaps protecting a logo from getting scratched. Not that i think it's VF's, but to say that you know it is white isn't necessarily true. I agree that what you can see through the tear is white, but until the tarp is off, you never know.

Ya, you tell him!

I think you folks are thinking too narrow. It was mentioned that CF is marketing to families. Thrill rides are not as popular with those.

If families are the target, you won't get a record breaker anytime soon, IMO.
