I was in the park last weekend, Just asking around about 2006 . Romur has it they may be lifting the Western Theme in the next year or two. But mainly removing White Water Landing & Antique Cars for next years attraction. Any thoughts
If by "western theme" you mean Frontier Town, then you are probably mis-informed. There's no need (at least none I can see) to remove the flavor of the area. What purpose would it serve, aside from irritating the guests and causing unnecessary expense? Its not like the themeing really gets in the way, per-se.
As for the removal of the aforementioned attractions, it seems as though that might indeed be the case, based on the markings in the vicinity. Probably for the, ahem, "romured" 2007 attraction.

Was white water landings still open this weekend? One of the employees that I work with said that they were already starting to tear down WWL, and that they were just lettin pieces of it drop once they were un-bolted.
Just what I heard, I have no idea if its true or not.
Well one thing I can tell you, White Water Landing isn't open on Friday Nights. It could be possible that they could be demolishing in it. They might not put anything in there for next season but for 07 the proposed new water ride could be going in, but they could just be clearing land all year for 06.
Just a thought, could they be re-vamping WWL to make it into a water coaster. If you think about it most of the existing structure could be used from WWL. By doing this, Cedar Point can save an existing ride, utilize space and current structures, and still be able to build a new ride. But agin, just a thought!
Doubtful that any part of the WWL structure could be used to make a water coaster... maybe the station, but thats about it. A water coaster is a coaster first, a water ride second, in terms of its structure.

I was just therethis weekend and RODE WWL. I doubt they would let me ride a ride thats being demolished with peices "falling off" as they unbolted them.
Hey, first of all, I'm new here, been reading these boards for a long time though.
Anyway, my 2 cents: Why does everybody seem convinced that the next coaster CP builds is going to be a 500 footer? First of all, CP doesn't have enough space to build a 500 footer with a regular lift hill, meaning the only possible way to build one would be another Intamin rocket. It would be a really dumb move to build a TTD clone 80 feet taller. CP hit gold the first 3 times with the height barrier (Gemini, Magnum, Millenium Force), but the limits of current technology are starting to catch up now. I seriously doubt they'd want to risk spending $30 million+ to build something that breaks down as much as TTD has.
Second, there are a lot more areas CP could improve on coaster-wise. They have 16 coasters and only 2 true woodies, and haven't built one in almost 15 years. They only have 3 looping coasters. They don't have a flyer or floorless. Again, why build a coaster just for the sake of height when other parks have better variety?
I honestly think the next coaster will be between 200-400 feet. Probably a floorless or flyer, maybe even a Screamin' Squirrel if they decide to build something cheap with a small footprint. They won't build a 500 footer until they can build one that isn't a clone of TTD. And I think whatever kind of coaster they do build next, it's gonna come in 2007.
As for next year...Screamin' Swing is obvious. Still holding out hope that there's a second ride coming.

Untrue.

You know, people said the same thing about Millennium Force, Wicked Twister, Dragster, Mantis....I could go on, but the point being is this: Cedar Point does not have a space problem..not that I can see next year bringing a 500' coaster, but thats for different reasons..
But in regards to the comments about 2007, I see no fact that can back up a future project for 2007. None. We can speculate that CP is in fact preparing for an attraction down the road, but to make a judgement like that based off of paint markings is silly.
Ok, look at the size of Millenium Force's first hill. Add 200 feet to it. Even with the elevator lift system, that hill would be enormous. There's enough room to build one...but they'd have to remove quite a lot of stuff to have space. Since TTD is just the one hill, I'm pretty convinced they don't want another coaster that has one big hill, and that's basically the ride. It would look bad on their part.
Now if they come up with a vertical lift, that might be a different story, that'd save a lot of space.
First off welcome to Pointbuzz AphelionAxeMan. I just have a few things to say about your post:
CP is not running out of space, even though it may look like it is. I can think of a bunch of possible areas that could fit a coaster of descent size (even a 500 footer;)). Sure the next coaster won’t have a large open area, but it will have a layout none the less. Look at MF and TTD.
And don’t suspect that the next record breaker will have to be launched. It could use a cable lift or even something new. And if it has a defiant layout, look for it to interact with allot of existing rides for the space it will need.
And I too don’t expect to see a coaster of this magnitude for a while. Though who knows, it could already be on the drawing board. I once heard that Dragster was on the drawing board before Wicked Twister was even out (though a little bit after MF). I can’t prove that though :).
Still, who knows......a monster could be brewing up in CP's mind as we speak.
And that doesn’t mean that CP is just thinking of a monster...they might be setting plans for a different type of smaller coaster.
AGAIN! who knows. We just have to wait and see.

Mabey those pipes are for water jets like on Riptide. That would be cool to have a screamin swing with water jets that hit you going up and down. Or not either way.
The point of my post wasn't so much about the space problem or whether or not they'll ever build a 500 footer. I'm sure they will and they'll find a way to make room for it. I just think that people are thinking really unrealistically when they say that 2007 is the year we'll see it. There are so many more logical choices for coasters than building the first 500 footer 4 years after the first 400 footer. I mean, instead of just constantly pushing the height barrier up, I'd rather see more innovation done with the heights we can work with. I still think there's a lot that can be done under 300 feet.
And I'm sure they have plans for the next few years on the drawing board, I remember hearing that they keep a general idea planned as far ahead as 10 years.
didn't TTD come only 3 years after MF. so it does not matter about the number of years in between height records.
Yeah, TTD came 3 years after MF, and from the very beginning I felt like they rushed it. They built the first 400 footer when there were only 2 coasters even over 300 feet. Not to be knocking TTD, it's a great ride, but I think a 200 foot floorless with multple inversions would have made me happier if it was sitting there instead of TTD.

Man oh Man people, after reading through some of the pages,....you guys are ALL WRONG. Havn't you heard that it is an extension for dragster!! Hence why dragster is down they are only putting in a bigger motor, CP figured they are running out of room and can't fit a 500 footer, so why not add on to dragster?
Dragster has a 10,000 hp motor Kingda ka has a 3,000 hp motor I think I could be wrong though if I am right TTD can easly launch a car 800 to 1000ft high maby even higher low. so no no just no.
Yeah new year, and finally got my license, well back in august. Im in need of a trip to the park.
Very good point. They should put that kind of power on to the next record breaker in 07 @ CP.
Bring back Boblo!
Kingda Ka's motor exerts 7,400 hp CPKid.
But what I dont understand about that is how Dragsters is 10,000hp, launching trains at 120mph in 4 seconds, and Kingda Ka's is 7,400hp, launching its trains 128mph in 3.5 seconds? Can somebody give me a quick explination as to why KK uses less hp yet gets its trains to go faster and higher than Dragsters.
Sorry I know this is WAY off topic.....that question has just been racking my brain for such a long time.
