Top Thrill Dragster, that could be a Biblical program of some sorts. The one at my church is STATIC.

Why spend the money to modify an old ride into something new when they could just buy a brand new ride? I'm thinking that it would be more trouble to convert a ride than it would be to build a new one.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Why spend money to modify an existing ride???
2 words my friend: AVALANCHE RUN!
Look how much better it got!!!!
*inserts soap into own mouth*
Lol.
Ok so if i'm hearing/seeing this right...(if) Demon Drop goes, we get a new resturant (because there aren't enough places to eat) There is a covered something or other in the SC parking lot. according to soakcitylot, it could be sign. For a new ride or this possible resturant. The WWL area is COVERED with spray paint marks, and stakes. This gives good reason to think that WWL will be "fixed" removed, or something is going in near it.
The blog revealed nothing and IMO was a way to make it look like they were trying. Its October meaning that an announcement should be coming sooner or later. Last season we waited till December to find out about maXair. If the new ride is bigger it should come sooner thanks to all the buzz that has been created and all the little things people have noticed.
The questions continue and the days run down..
"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"
This may have been brought up here before but if they were planning a new coaster or something major in FT, in place of WWL wouldn't they have already begun the process clearing the area and even announcing it by now?
The Amazement Park
What if they were to not tell us anything at all? I think it would be very ingenius to just build a ride and not give any stats until its done, oh wait, they sorta did that with Dragster ;) Although, it seems most people on this board knew the basics of the ride just by watching it. But what if they were take down all webcams, and all that you saw from the mainland was all you knew about the ride. The only people who would know what is going on would be the park brass, and the ones who usually are "in the know", and keep the buzz going. Then when the ride has just about finished, they they should come out with all the stats and name, etc. I think that would be cool.
Perhaps that is the only way for some people to get away from their computers and enjoy the weather outside. Albeit, it would be winter, and many would probably catch frostbite and not be able to type anymore. Such a shame... ;)

I think there is still plenty of time to put up a coaster for next season as long as it isn't as large as TTD. When Hydra was built last year at Dorney Park the entire structure was put up rather quickly and was basically complete before winter, minimal work was done during the winter months. I think that the Cedar Point property has become obsessed with this new idea of keeping things a mystery as long as possible. This has been the trend ever since TTD. We didn't get an official announcement about TTD till around Christmas If I remember correctly. And we didn't get the MaXair announcement till late also.
Yes the removal of WWL and the installation of a new ride in the remaining off-season would be a tight schedule but with the right amount of money given to the right people anything is possible. Cedar Point built a 420 foot tall structure in one of the worst winters in the past few decades; I’m sure a 150 foot B&M or a water coaster wouldn't be nearly as difficult.
At this point with all the Blog entries about the new 2006 attraction the parks official website it is obvious we are getting some type of attraction for 2006 season. If we didn’t get an attraction for 2006 I believe that the hype created by the Blog would have a negative public relation impact on the park. Also since so much hype is intentionally being created by the Blog the attraction must be relatively large from advertising standpoint for the park. For the park to intentionally create this much hype and not come through and deliver would be silly.
278 coasters and still counting!
DemonDroppin', yes it has been brought up before. Many times.
Coaster Freak, how can you call (keeping rides a secret since TTD) a trend. You have TTD and Maxair. 2 incedents does not constitute a trend. And they didn't wait all that long to tell us about Maxair anyway.
I belive you are wrong about the TTD date. I belive there wasn't an official announcement about TTD until well after the 1st of the year.
Erecting steel and other structure during the winter is not the biggest problem. Getting the footers poured before it's too cold is.
Too much hype? You mean like "We have some seriously exciting news to tell you." And then the announcement is discounts on admission.

You're right Jason. TTD was announced January 9, 2003. maXair was announced December 1, 2004
2007: Millennium Force, 2008: Millennium Force ATL, 2009: Top Thrill Dragster

I'd have to agree with Jason. Correct me if I'm wrong (not that I needed to say that), but weren't the footers for TTD poured in the winter of '01-02? I know that some of the work was started well before the end of the 2002 season.
Anywho, it is possible that a pretty big attraction could be built fairly quickly, but I don't think there will be anything that big going back in FT. They can't do a 'slash-N-burn' like they did with TTD. Remember, they have to excercise extreme care negotiating supports/track/lemon chill stands around the trees without causing too much damage.

Yeah, because the world revolves around the young coaster enthusiast. If it's not a major ride, it's BORING!
Jason Hammond,
TTD was announced on January 9, 2003. Earlier I didn’t look up the actual date and said it was around Christmas, which when you look at the year as a whole January 9 is relatively close to Christmas.
MaXair was announced on December 1, 2004. Both of these announcements were considerably later than the announcement seen at other Cedar Fair parks and other competitor parks. Basically what I’m saying is that the park has found a marketing method that seems to be very effective so they are continuing to expand upon this idea. This year they added the Blog to make things more exciting. In the past like on TTD and MaXair they moved the park webcams to give views of the construction before the announcement.
Pouring concrete is possible in the middle of winter; although these are not the best conditions for concrete it can be done. Also winter is still a ways away; footers could be being poured as we speak.
Seeing all the photographic research you have done over the past few months you must agree that an attraction is highly likely for the 2006 season. All I’m saying is that I agree. I’m not trying to start a war or words.
P.S. That’s an impressive coaster count; I’m only at 196 coasters at 27 different parks myself.
278 coasters and still counting!
Wasn't the announcement for Wicked Twister in mid-December? So thats 3 rides in a row that they've done that for. If the ride is in the woods at all they could easily already be pouring the footers or some other construction prep without anyone knowing about it.
Erecting steel and other structure during the winter is not the biggest problem. Getting the footers poured before it's too cold is.
The talk of concrete footers brought back memories of the HUGE thread that originally started all of the speculation for what was to become TTD. If I remember correctly, the thread was called "The mysterious possible footers?" and it was in the General section. This was way before there was an 'Area 51' or 'Top Thrill Dragster' section in the forum. I was trying to find this thread to see what time of year the reports of those footers started showing up, but I've been unable to locate it anywhere. Anyone else remember that thread?
Anyway, it seems like it is already later in the season now than it was back when those footers started showing up...but those were some BIG footers and they probably needed more time to dry, etc. than the average ride's footers.
Coaster Freak, I don't doubt that Something is being built. But just because they are putting out construction markers now, doesn't mean we'll be getting it next year. My intentions were not to have a "war of words." Don't take my statements as hostile. We're just having a discussion. As to the coaster count... the site is still under construction. I only have a couple hours a day to work on it.
Walt, I agree that there are "seriously exciting" things other than just a new major attraction. In fact, I had been planing on taking my nephew to the park anyway. It was nice not to have to pay $25 for him, but a discounted admission just didn't seem "seriously exciting" to me. IMO

My Friend who works at white Water landing told me that they have already started digging for something. She also said that she "HEARD" this is part of a bigger project than just a new ride. She said it may even be for 2007's coaster. Also, she said White water landing is definetly going. Thats not all nescesarilly true but thats what she told me.
"Thats when friends were nice, to think of them just makes you feel nice"
Which is my point. It may not be exciting to some people here, but Cedar Point's marketing message has a much bigger audience than hardcore park fans. In respect to the park overall (as well as the industry), it was huge news. After all, it caused CBS News to do a live remote.

maxair was probably announced as late as it was so it wouldnt take attention away from castaway bay, which had just opened a month earlier.
Your exactly right dorkdork.
