Another Intamin Rocket?

Woodies don't draw? Tell that to places like Cliff's or Indiana Beach.

Besides, it's not like Cedar Point ALWAYS drops in a destination coaster. Wicked Twister is a great ride, but it's clearly not a Millennium Force/Top Thrill Dragster project. A good mid-sized woodie doesn't HAVE to be excluded from Cedar Point.

Will we see one? I don't know. But I don't think we can just assume we'll NEVER see one, either.

Jeff, what is your opinion on Beast? I rode this for the first time last summer and I thought it was great.

Also, I would like to ditto what greg said. I was just at Indiana Beach Saturday (also drove there cuz of the inexpensive fireworks) and I was impressed with the woodies they had. I also was suprised by the "Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain" which for a coaster that is only 35' tall and 20mph, was a very fun coaster. lots of hairpin turns and head chopping drops. *** Edited 7/6/2004 4:40:51 AM UTC by Jason Hammond***

I'm still holding out for a giant flat...
I'm holding out for a new seat belt arrangement on MF.
Seems like we stopped talking about rocket coasters somewhere along the way here. Personally, I think a shorter rocket coaster with 10+ inversion would be very marketable and very successful for the park. That being said, there are a lot of rides that CP could build that would make me happy (which is their goal of course). I would be happy with a flyer, a giant frisbee, a 10+inversion coaster, and especially with a midsized wood coaster.

The thing is that they need marketable rides, especially as I see them continuing to do more and more nationwide marketing. The next few years could be really important for CP as I see them having a chance to become a destitination park and perhaps see their first major attendance increase in quite a while. For that to happen they need rides that they can market. This means we may be stuck with the -est rides.

I think if they want to call them rocket coasters, that they should actualy have functional rockets on them that accelerate you to the same speeds as the space ships :)

That would be a thrilling ride!

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

Magnum will be with us until the end...to speak otherwise would be blasphemy! :)

This may be a bold statement, but Magnum pretty much "made" the park what it is today. I really can't foresee a scenario in which they would decide to remove it. If they have kept Mean Streak around for as long as they have with all of it's maintenance costs, they definitely won't remove Magnum, EVER!

Despite what you may observe as far as line lengths go, Magnum is very much still an extremely popular ride. It just has such a huge capacity that the lines never stay long. Granted it doesn't have 1 1/2 hour waits anymore, but thats to be expected since the overall line capacity of the park has increased dramatically since its debut year.

Every year Magnum is in competition with Raptor as the #1 most popular ride in the park. When a ride brings in millions of guests a year through its turnstyles, it pretty much solidifies itself with a permanent spot at the park.

And onto the "new ride[s]"...

First you have to think of the most likely plot of land. Many of us have already guessed as to where this will be, and CP has given us a pretty big hint with the removal of the Swan Boats. Next you have to look at the current and surrounding rides in this area. What is their overall status at the park? Could they be moved? Are they expendable? Finally there is the question of how big, how much, and how many...

That's a good point CP_bound. Maybe they'll move the "Lolli Swing" and either get rid of or build around the Antique Cars. This would give them quite a large ammount of space. It would be nice to see a new coaster in the back of the park. Maybe another woodie to contrast the Mean Streak. Steel coasters are out numbering Woodies 14 to 2. I think we need to even up the odds a little.

People have spoken of their lack of interest in "White Water landing" but I can't imagine them getting rid of that. Even with the accident that happened last year.

As a side note: I was on six flags website and they are claiming the Guinness record for most coasters, but when I went to Guinness' site, I couldn't even find a record pertaining to that catagory. I was also suprised to see that CP is not the park with the most rides. It's a six flags park in New England with 71 I think.

Cedar Point has the most rides of any amusement park in the world. Great Adventure makes the claim, but resorts to a shady count to inflate the number.

Guiness doesn't list every record on their website. They list a sampling from several categories to give you a teaser so that you go out and spend 40 bucks on their book. Why give it away for free when you can make money!

Bonus question: Who created the Book and why?

Mr. Guinness, and it was because he was drinking to much Guinness. Ha. :)

Ya gotta wonder where Dan is, he starts the topic then probably sits back and laughs. :)

Something to think about lines... a long line doesn't make it more popular, it just makes a longer line. Any ride can serve a finite number of rides per day. If every train leaves full, it doesn't matter if there are 10 people in line or 10,000, it still gives the same number of rides.

Ahhhhh C.P. My Happy Place!
Although, the length of the line at closing time can have a dramatic affect on overall season-long capacity.

Say TTD closes each night with 1,000 people in the queue and Magnum closes each night with 20 people in the queue. Over the course of a 6 month season, which ride is going to see a huge boost in numbers because the length of the lines?

Interesting thought, I'll go a step further. TTD can keep those extra 980 people after close. Magnum will still trump it because it doesn't break down for hours or days at a time. All the downtime TTD sits there, Magnum is still dispatching full trains... Just feeling argumentative. The downtime TTD has is a huge contributing factor to the lines. Think about it. If it launches a full train of 18 people every minute with 5 train operation, that should be 1080 people an hour. It amazes me that the ride gathers 2-4 hour lines consistently. Thats 2,000-4,000 people that for a couple hours are stuck in line, not spending money at Johnny Rockets or Dippin Dots or Snoopy Boutique or wherever...

ROUNDABOUND.

I still think that the big new ride for 2005 will be a flat, probably a Huss Giant Frisbee. Thrillride! and Screamscape have both been predicting this for at least a couple of months, and I'm inclined to believe them.

The B&M Flyer is going to have to wait until 2006.
