A Sign of Things to Come? Is MS next?

It's a shame to see coasters die. For good or for bad. But hey, a-parks-got-to-do-what-a-parks-got-to-do. If an amusement park won't operate a coaster at it's best (i.e. no trim breaks, maybe oil the track) simply because the price to maintain it exceeds the budget.. then maybe it should be replaced. For sure, in time, we'll know.

Yes, and hopefully the only "original structure" they keep from MS is the queue. ;-)

I don't want Mean Streak to go. I love that coaster. I have yet to have a bad ride on MS, including many back seat rides on it. It maybe rough, but it's a wooden coaster, it's not suppose to be smooth like the steel coasters. And not only is MS a great coaster and gives you a great view of the lake, but it looks beautiful. All of that wood in the sun....it's the best looking ride in the park. MS also goes great with it's location in the park. It's Frontier Town, what better than a wooden coaster!

I love Mean Streak and I definately do NOT want to see a steel coaster go in it's place, especially not a B&M floorless (Put that somewhere else if you have to have one).

Metallica, Magnum and Mountain Dew, and finally turning 21...what could be better?

I would not be opposed to taking out DT or MS.... but I do not think for a second that CP will do it. Think about it... 2 words:

COASTER. COUNT.

They can just put up a bigger one or better!

But why take out Disaster Transport? Like it was said before, it is a great step up from some of the smaller roller coasters. I know it was for me.

If anything is done to DT, take the covers off of it and put it in Fronteir Land/Trail and make it a wooden themed bobsled coaster. Not as themed as it is now but give it something. It could look a lot like the water rides just without water. That way you have plenty of room to build on its spot.

If anything is razed, I would want it to be Mean Streak. I mean, the coaster just hurts to ride. Plus I think a few roller coasters could be placed in its giant footprint.

I know i'm going to lose any respect I've gained on this site, and get flamed like mad for saying this but, Mean Streak is my favourite woodie in the world. Now I've only ridden a few diffrent wooden coasters (mainly the ones at PCW) but the sheer size of Mean Streak is what does it for me. Yes it is on the rough side but if you can keep your back off the seats, which I can because I'm small, then it's just fine. It's also a beauty to look at. If they were to ever tear it down then it would be a very welcome addition to PCW!

I think that the midway extention is the best way to go. Put in a good B&M flyer (with some new inversions), or a floorless coaster, and a few giant Huss rides and I don't think I'd ever leave the park!

Coaster count has nothing to do with it. Economics, potential, worth, cost to the park, and future expansions has everything to do with it.

It would suprise me to see CP ever build another woodie. Not to say they wouldn't...I just "wood" be suprised. Upkeep is too expensive.

plus if they did tear down mean streak and built 2 coasters in one year they would have the money from MS so that would help them money wise toward two coasters.

How do you figure that? It costs money to tear down a coaster, you don't return it to the store for a refund!

I don't see CP tearing down Mean Streak, at least I hope they don't. It's a beautiful coaster that, while not a top ten ride, is entertaining enough for a ride or two each visit.

MS looks best at night, with the lights on. It's almost worth keeping just for that.

Well they could tare down MS(9th in my top ten) and put an acelerated racer woodie like Lightning Racer and put an updated Delerim in the Middle of the ride( Put in a few years later).

But You gota think about MS tallest woodie and speeds of 65 one of the faster ones. And it won the most beautieful coaster award at night.

Don't tare down DT(#6 on my list) I like the themeing and the bobsled enclosed.

Would it be possible to use the wood again if they tore Mean Streak down? If so, thats definetly what they should do if they were ever going to put a new woodie there (unless it would be Intamin or course). The wood could also be sued for lots of opther things around the park like fences, benchs, signs, or the other coasters that need replacements.

All of this coaster count business is nonsense. If you look at both CP's and SFMM's advertisements and such, you realize that they both claim the outright title of most coasters, which they actually share. Who's to say they'll stop advertising this even if one is dethroned? Think about this: if CP wanted to beat SFMM in the number of coasters they have, why spend 50 million on TTD and MF, when you could get four or five coasters for that much? If they really were that worried about it, why not add a cheap and low real estate kiddie coaster every year between the big ones? CP's first concern is obviously profit, which would not suffer but go up if they removed MS due to the amount of money it sucks in from maintenance each year. After that, I think they care much more about the quality of the coasters they have and the experience they can provide their guests than the number they have. If they feel that they can replace MS with a ride that actually draws people (which MS isn't particularly good at), it'll probably be done because of the nuisance it is to maintain that big pile of wood. The same idea goes for DT, although it isn't the financial burden that MS is and it's probably overall a more popular ride because of the little ones and people who don't like the big rides.

Rob is right, floorless coasters are very over rated. For the most part if you have been on one B&M you have been on them all, let me change that. Any B&M built since '98 all feel the same, all of the older ones are awesome.

I've been on exactly two floorless coasters: Medusa East and B:KF. B:KF is a simply awesome ride while Medusa was stereotypically B&M.

Neither ride is overly forceful- something B&M seems to favor. Neither ride is a bad ride, but unless you jump in the front seat there's no real difference between floorless and sit-down.

I'd have to agree with Dan that almost every B&M I've ever ridden has felt about the same. Exceptions would be Nitro (obviously), the B:TR clones- aside from the fact they really are all the same, and Riddler's Revenge, which is one of the most amazing coasters I've ever been on.

Anybody who knows my tastes in coasters knows that I love B&M rides almost unconditionally. But they also know that I can be one of the biggest critics of the B&Ms too.

I for one would shed no tears if DT was taken out. How this pains me to say, I think MS is a flawed design and needs to go. I still remember the first year it opened. It was a great ride and was my favorit wood coaster at the time. As the years went by, the Mean was slowly taken out of the streak. It's like watching a loved one fade away. You just don't want to see them or MS this way. Also, think of all the possible concepts that could go where MS sits.

DT on the other hand, I could care less if it goes. A nice wooden twister would look so much better then that warehouse looking eye-sore. JMO

I liked the idea of a dueling coaster. It would be great for capacity.

I am a big fan of B & M coasters. Floorless is nice, but overrated.

The B & M flyer is a very good coaster, and comfortable too. Much more comfy than X-Flight. However, I think X-flight has a much better layout.

I'd like to see something along the lines of Nitro. That is a great coaster that is on my top 5 list.

I did have the displeasure to ride Hercules 2 weeks ago. The ride was horrible and made me wish I was on Mean Streak. That ride had to go, and I am happy they decided to get rid of it.

Mean Streak isnt a bad coaster, but I never really enjoyed it. They made it worse by slowing it down, but I understand that they had to do it.
