A Sign of Things to Come? Is MS next?

If you haven't seen this yet, check it out. Its pretty interesting and it begs the questions. Is Mean Streak next?

I can only hope so. I'll probably get flamed for that, but I wouldn't miss MS one bit. It sure takes up a lot of space with good potential too.

Or, perhaps, is Disaster Transport next?

That makes more sense - esp. seeing as Kinzel considers that his greatest blunder. Maybe he wants to rectify the situation before he retires. ;)

I don't know...as problematic as Mean Streak is, Hercules is more problematic and in different ways. There are special circumstances with Hercules in that, like the rest of the park, it's a public nuisance, and they're going to replace it with something that is not only less of a hassle to operate and (hopefully) more fun to ride, they are going to replace it with something that the neighbors are less likely to notice.

It's just a theory, of course. Well, more of an educated guess...

They are pumping a lot more money into Mean Streak than into Disaster. I think there is still room for Disaster at CP. Contrary to popular belief I think it is a nice coaster for up and coming riders ala Iron Dragon.

The only downside to Disaster, in my opinion, is that it is an ugly structure on prime real estate. That may be its eventual downfall.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me they put twice as much into Mean Streak as it cost to build (maybe more).

I hope that if they ever tear MS down that it is not replaced with a Floorless but maybe a Dueling Woodie like Lightning Racer. They could easily market it as 2 coasters and then they would still be adding one to their count. The plot of land would be big enough. Plus if they ditched Mean Streak and went with more steel, it leaves them with one wood coaster, or 3 to the people that call Gemini and Mine Ride wood.

Maybe I'm just not huge on the idea of floorless coasters. There is a great one an hour to the East and I think CP would try to make theirs too big. I think the smaller B&M coasters pack the bigger punch. Just my thoughts.

As I mentioned to Dan... ditch Mean Streak and extend the Gemini midway that way for a big loop to the back of Frontier Town and you've got plenty of room for a big steel coaster, more shops and food stands, maybe even, gasp, a non-coaster!

Could someone please invite Dick and Company down to PKI to ride Delirium and Tomb Raider, and then ask the folks down there if indeed a non-coaster can draw crowds? The answer is most certainly yes...

That Gemini Midway extension rumor has been around for some time. I think it's a great idea, regardless of what happens to Mean Streak.

Yeah, ditch Mean Streak, and put in a land of the giants, or a dueling wooden coaster there. We really don't need steel (but I'll take it). The question can be asked how much have they thought about calling Gravity group (or GCI) and saying "Hello this is CP, we want a dueling wooden coaster where Mean Streak is, what can you do??"

I do not see Mean Streak going anywhere due to the big competition that is going on between CP and SFMM to have the most coasters in the world. As far as adding another wooden coaster, that would shock me because they say that taking care of Mean Streak is so expensive every year.

Please Tony... tell me you didn't just suggest there was competition between CP and SFMM... you've been here too long.

IF CP is worried about the most coasters, they build two coasters in one year. Tear down MS, build a single wooden coaster where Mean Streak is, and put in a steel coaster too. If they get a steel from B&M those are around 15M. A wooden is 5-10M give or take, so I think you still don't go over the 25M spent on TTD and MF. Maybe you would be over to 30M, but I think they can pull it off.

And to Jeff's post after Tony, I tend to think most coasters is not high on there list.
Whatever the case may be you will find people on this board that agree and disagree that CP competes with SFMM for tallest, and most coasters on earth. Do a search and a ton will come up.

I think since it is used as a marketing aspect it has to mean something.

It's only used as a marketing aspect to draw the GP to their park, not to give a middle finger to the so-called "competition" if Six Flags has even reached that status yet, which I highly doubt it has..

Everything that has a beginning, has an end. 11.05

plus if they did tear down mean streak and built 2 coasters in one year they would have the money from MS so that would help them money wise toward two coasters.

Cedar Point, The Roller Coast!!

Well, if your woried about the competion, why not tear down mean streak and put in the worlds first (in my knowledge) dueling floorless, sort of like dueling dragons, but floorless, that way they would not only replace, but add another coaster. I love dueling anythings, and a floorless would be sweet. Why not put the 2 ideas together?
AM I the only one who feels that floorless coasters are overrated?

Been on several and honestly, while they're fun.. they're not all that..

No Rob, I feel the same way. I want a B&M Flyer personally.

Unless B&M gets creative with their flyer layout, I'd rather have a floorless. S:UF at SFGAm was pretty "meh", even with the pretzel loop.

As for the "competition" between SFMM and CP: show me one person who has ever had to decide which park they were going to drive to for a visit. The only people who make that decision are enthusiasts who fly to parks as their idea of a vacation, and they'll visit both anyway.
