3 Coasters For Magic Mountain in 2001?

Just remember, we are getting that 9 inversion floorless in 2002!

Personally, I'm really enjoying this debate. Why? Well, I don't plan on getting to Cedar Point or Six Flags Magic Mountain this year. So, I get to make points against both parks. It's great fun.

Six Flags can do whatever they want with their parks, I don't care. I am not whining, I am only trying to state a fact. I think it is great as a coaster nut to see these rides go up. Only Time will tell in the end. The recent spurge of Six Flags moves may turn into the biggest mistake in amusement park history, or maybe the best decision ever. The biggest thing that shocked me was what Jeff said. Six Flags is already 2 BILLION in debt. Not even Manny and A-rod can pay that off. If you are an investor, are you seriously going to keep pouring money into this park, in hopes that one day, 30 years down the road it will start making a profit. Coasters dont grow on tree's (maybe wooden coasters) and money dose not fall out of the sky. Every body here do this. Turn on your Rollercoaster Tycoon game. Max out your loans and build the biggest, best damn 3 coasters in the world The initial crowd will give you just enough money to operate the coasters and higher handymen and security guards. The park is happy for the first year or so. People get bored of those rides and attendance will not increase, and may actually decrease. If CP stopped building coasters in 78 do you think the park would be anywhere as successful as it was today? You need a new ride to boost attendance, but since your lone is maxed out, no soup for you. The coasters get old, operating coast increase and you have to cut your forces. Rides Break down more often now, "This path is disgusting" will annoy you to the breach of insanity and people will stop coming, and start leaving. Vandalism will run rampant through the park, and pretty soon the park will never get out of the red figures. Bad rides were not the demise of the great parks in the 30's and 60's. It was one thing and one thing only: MONEY

I want to go to SFMM next year too.

I dont think 1 coaster will change anything. People will still think Cedar Point is better. Its not the amount of coasters you have in a park that makes you a good park. Theres always 2002.

MF Count: 11
I think this could be good. This will show CP they can't slack off. CP has been around for 130 years and has 14 coasters MM has been around for a lot less and will have 15 somebody has been slacking I hate to tell ya. I know we all love CP and don't want to see them beat but I dont think Cedar Fair has the kind of money Six Flags has. SFO may even pass CP up here soon because they just cant do these massive expansions every year. And I think it could hurt CP because I know that I really wanna go to MM now they they have the most... We'll have to see what CP does about this. I hope they put up a fight.
Oh you better believe that! CP will put up a fight like LENNOX LEWIS, and put SFMM down for the count a 1,2,3! I am betting on 2 coasters in 2002 but remember CP building all of the stuff this year makes them more of a resort than just an amusement park with some rollercoasters(SFMM:))! We need a sit-down looper like Kumba and a CCI woodie in 2002! Go CP!

Fight like Lennox Lewis, and put SFMM down 1-2-3? Now that's a sports hybrid.

As for Cedar Point being around 130 years and only having 14 coasters, that's an unfair comment. The oldest coaster at the Point is what? Blue Streak, built in '64? Well, then, they have 14 coasters built in the past 36 years. That's pretty comparable. Plus, SFMM was around before it was actually called "Six Flags Magic Mountain," was it not? Thusly, they probably had a coaster or two before they were bought.

Like people have been stressing, this "arms race" really benefits us! Who knows, maybe if nobody was close to CP's record, they wouldn't even put in a coaster in 2002, and put in a nice thrill ride or just do some general improvements. Now, I'm not saying that would be bad... but would you rather have that, or, as BCspartans said, a CCI and a sit-down looper combo?

Cedar Point has razed about 13 or 14 coasters.

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!

IluvCp, please don't make me laugh!
Yet again.. "Simma Downa"
So CP got caught w/ there finger up there noses.. whose to say that next year won't include a big coaster and a mad mouse of sorts?! Thus bringing the coaster count up to 16 and I don't think that SFMM is going to build anymore coasters next year, and if they do it will probably only be one. Thus putting CP ahead or tied if worst comes to worst, and some how I think that is there strateogy!

Time for some quick sayings that could easily sum up everything about this topic

"Records were MEANT to be broken"

"Quality not quantity"

"Would you like some cheese to go with that WHINE"

"We'll get'em next year!"

"I need another SFMM vs CP debate like I need a hole in the head"
Ah, it is much fun reading a thread as long as this altogether. I think this is an interesting debate that brings up several good points, as well as some not-so-good points. I'll just talk about one thing - I don't think CP will follow SFMM's lead and build 2 or more coasters in 2002 like many of you are saying. Wouldn't it be hypocritical to rip on SFMM (which, by the way, I think is pointless) for building 3 coasters in one year and then say "oh well, CP will come back in 2002 with 2 to get back the record". This is not pointed towards anybody in particular, because I love looking at both sides of the argument, and I do believe in "quality over quantity".

Hey remember Cedar Point doesn't consider Superman a coaster therefore it's a tie.
Well, in that press release, they said they didn't...

But I'll bet if you got into the main offices of CP where few men have gone before, they do consider it a coaster. Also, I guarantee you won't have any press release saying, "We do not think Six Flags Magic Mountain has more coasters than us because Superman: The Escape isn't a coaster." That won't happen.

Why? Well, like I said before... that would completely lock them out of adding a shuttle coaster and adding one to the count. Without being a hypocrite, that is.

I'm from the L.A. area and the fact that Magic Mountain will get three coasters will only prompt Cedar Fair to pump more money into the closest park to sfmm...which is Knott's
I do think that decision to build three in one year has a lot to do with the opening of DCA. Knott's practically can do nothing that year and still get record crowds since they are only ten minutes away from DCA...and the fact that the best is yet to come..........(you can be sure that 2002 for Knott's will be an extremely big year in capital expenditures)
So I am glad sfmm is getting three coasters...I am looking forward to sfmm next year...but I am looking even furthur to the year 2002...Hyper here I come.

All you guys that are criticizing SFMM, what happens if CP puts in a Wild Mouse unexpectedly for 2001? Will you say that it's "only" a mouse, and claim it's not quality? Or will you jump up and down because CP will keep the record? I love CP, but give SFMM some credit. The rides they are putting in sound like fun, especially the Arrow 4th dimension. Some of the posts in this thread are really silly, and sound like sour grapes.
The hills are alive, with the sound of reason. Finally!
I just can't believe SFMM is adding 3 coasters 1 year after opening Goliath!!!!
If anything's impressive, it's that kind of momentum!

imagine if CP added 3 coasters in 2001, one year after opening MF!!!!
That would be pretty stupid for CP to do now wouldn't it?! It is not momentum cause they won't open anything in 2002 but CP will so the record will be back in the king's hands!!

I have two things to say...

1. In the LA Times it said that MM will call thier park the Xtreme park. So this mean that Cedar Point can still have the saying, "Americas Roller Coast"

2. This morning on Fox 8 news they had a story about the new record. After the story one of the reporters said, "But Cedar Point still has the tallest, and fastest in the U.S" so this means even the reporter doesnt consider Superman to be a coaster.

SFMM doesn't consider it a coaster. Wait a minute first they said they had a taller coaster than the Force then they said there own Goliath was the tallest. Now there saying there Superman is again? Whats going on here?
