Well, someone will finally be able to claim they have more rollercoasters than Cedar Point. I believe that this past season may have been the last season that Cedar Point will ever be able to list the record for most rollercoasters at one park. The competition is getting to be so great that other parks are building "half" coasters and greatly increasing the number of rollercoasters at their park, while Cedar Point (hopefully) continues to build full-scale, awesome rollercoasters. If Cedar Point keeps getting large coasters that will go down in history the park is eventually going to fall behind. However, what would you rather have? A 310 foot, 92 MPH coaster called MF or the three coasters that SFMM is getting? My vote would definitely be for the first! And finally, do you think people will still be talking about these three new coasters 5 years down the road? I highly doubt it, but most definitely people will still be talking about the Raptor, Magnum, and MF.
Well first off, more lies from SFMM. It says, Never before, 3 coasters in one year!" Umm you'd think they'd remeber they put 4 in at a park they own! The other thing, I will never ever call Superman: The Escape a rollercoaster. If it's a coaster so is Demon Drop giving the Point 15 coasters.
Also, Cedar Point will still have the most COMPLETE CIRCUIT coasters

Just because a park may break Cedar's record is NO reason to start bashing that park. Millennium Force may be better than all those coasters, but Jeez, can this sound anymore like sour grapes? Congradulate them, and let's keep enjoying Cedar Point. It's all for fun my friends, this isn't the presidential election! Of course everyone will ignore this and keep on bashing. I thought we were better than that. I wish SFMM fans the kind of excitement that we had this year with MF!

If this comes rumour comes true, you must excuse me, but I will honestly laugh my*****off.
Everyone was fully expecting two new coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain, but the third kiddie coaster just blew me away. Who saw that coming? Honestly? I hadn't heard anybody come up with that idea... but it's ingenious. It honestly is.
I'm all about CP; Love the place. I haven't been to SFMM, so I can't judge. However, I will certainly say that, although CP might not have the most coasters record, it's still worth a trip -- from anywhere.
I think we can all agree... the kiddie ride thing is a stunning move by SFMM, and if CP had done it to steal the count away from them...
Don't even try to tell me you wouldn't be laughing at them just like a few Californians will probably laugh at CP.

How dare you vanquish the Steel Phantom without his consent? Fear the Phantom's Revenge.
I dont know about you, but I will sure be talking about X (arrow 4D) in 5 years. No comment on the rest of the stuff. MM is one of my home parks (along with DL and Knotts) and I hate to see it insulted. To tell ya the truth, I like CP just as much, if not more than MM, and I have not even been there yet.
PS- Magnum 1989, the thing about 3 coasters in one year was refering to MM getting 3 coaster in one year, something that has never happened at the park before.

Actually, it's being called the largest Capital Expansion project in the history of theme parks. What does that mean for the Mountain? I don't know. But there will be three coasters in one year, plus an expansion. [from what they say].
Count Demon Drop if you will. We'll still be ahead of you by one. With other installations already slated for 2002, I doubt CP will pull back into the lead, unless they have the guts to put a large amount of money on the line to add more than one attraction in one year.
As far as the 4th Dimension, how could anyone deny the fact that this will have a large impact on the coaster industry? Combining traditional coaster with spinning flatride technology is a first. People will be talking about this for a long time.
Now, I don't think CP and SFMM should be in competition with each other. We're so far away from each other it's ludicrous!
But, you must admit, it was inevitable that CP would eventually lose the title. But look at it this way, you still have a lot more flatrides than we do! :(
BTW, people are still talking about RRv, and S:TE. What makes you think SFMM wouldn't go all out to produce world-class rides?

In defense of superdisk, I don't think people will be talking about X in five years. Are people still talking about King Cobra or Batman The Ride? No, because ones that are bigger faster and better have been built. The same thing will happen with 4-d if it's as fun as it looks. Since X is going to Six Flags that means clones. That means X could be coming to SFO and if it doesn't here is the way I see it. If 4-D goes to SFO that means Cedar Point won't be getting one, If it goes to the Point than that means that SFO won't be getting one.

Good for MM, IM glad. Now, maybe CP can concentrate on the rides they have now and improve them. Maybe, they can tare down MeanStreak and build a Crystal Beach Cyclone (clone) and then add a quality sitdown coaster from B&M. Something on the lines of Kumba. IMO, what CP needs badly is a good wooden coaster and a sitdown.

Somebody call the waaaambulence!
So our beloved park will get caught napping and lose the coaster count record. Who cares? Does that make them have any fewer quality coasters? If anything, this might encourage the park to build more coasters more quickly!
Put things into perspective. California might as well be Japan for most of us. Sure, Japan has a taller coaster, but are we going to ride it?

Well, I never said there coasters didnt have any quality. I *said* they should get rid of MeanStreak and get a stronge *forceful* sitdown coaster.
The three coasters that are being built at SFMM is not the really big announcement that they have scheduled for 12/19, or so I'm told. The scan of the SFMM season pass brochure is genuine, and they still have a very big surprise that hasn't been announced yet.
"Who cares" is absolutely the right attitude. There are great parks around that have only a couple of coasters.
CP continuing to develop the resort aspect of the park is a good thing that will pay off (if they can improve the poor service you often get) and visually improving the Main and DT midways will help the over all park experience.
Spending huge amounts of money just to keep a Guiness record that most park patrons neither know nor care about does not, in the long run, make as much sense as sound fiscal management and maintaining a diverse, pleasant park with amazing ride capacity and the best moving lines in the business. CP hasn't stayed around for so long by doing nothing but building coasters.
Go ahead and count Demon Drop as a coaster, if you want. The problem is, SFMM has one of those too, called Freefall.
I don't think the addition of Goliath Jr. was a sneaky move, SFMM in 2000 had 12 coasters, but only one for the kids. Actually, that made the one and only kiddie coaster there have really long lines. CP has 2 kiddie coasters in the lineup, so now that's basically a wash.
I live in California, so obviously I like to see the record shift West, but really, who are the real winners? SFMM? CP? NO! The real winners are all coaster fans in general. Let the big brass fight the numbers battle, once more and more coasters are built, that means more coasters to ride. Besides, that means CP WILL (most likely) add at least 2 in 2002.
BTW 2 first of a kind coasters is a huge deal. People WILL be talking about the 4D for a long time to come. Side note: The passholder brochure states that "X" will have a top speed of 76mph. Some quick math will tell you that this coaster will have a drop of around 200-225 feet!! This will not be some small "first attempt" like Stealth. I only hope it opens on time.

That's "President-Elect Bush" to you!
How do you get 2 type of rides?
If I'm not mistaken, the other one is Vekoma's super Boom or super Invertigo, don't remember which. SFGAm is getting one of those, too. That and there are... 31? of them world-wide in the slightly shorter form.
X sounds interesting, although it's not the first spinniong coaster. Reverchon has had a spinning mouse for a *long* time. Kennywood's got one.
The spinning parallel to the track, though, it semi-unique.
Comparing the two parks is like comparing Episode 1 to the original trilogy...it can't be done...The two parks MM and CP both have their own agendas. If Six Flags wants to build small rides and name everything after cartoon characters (batman, superman, roadrunner, etc...), and theme everything out (warner bros.), thats fine by me. On the other hand, Cedar Point wants to build big rides with big names with big ratings that bash big records...But tell me, which would you be prouder of: setting some record for getting 3 coasters in one season, or would you rather have a record that contains something to the effect of 93 mph on an 80 degree drop with overbanked turns?? I've never been to SFMM, and I'm sure I'd have a good time there, but I wouldn't get all happy about getting 3 small coasters. I could care less when SFO got their 4 coasters. I'd rather drive an hour the other direction to CP for my thrills. I hope I made my point clear.

Hey Bird of prey, which of SFMM's 3 coasters are named after cartoon characters? See these are the kinds of comments that make no sense to me. First of all, we all know the stats on MF, to repeat them for the sake of comparing another park sounds more like your trying to convince yourself. There is no need for that. If you indeed feel CP is better, you can congradulate another park(without the sarcasm) for doing something for their coaster fans. Is Cedar point the only park allowed to build great coasters? I for one, can't wait to ride them(if I can get to the West Coast in 01.
